QUOTE(aweeff @ Jul 24 2011, 01:55 PM)
Pergaduhan telah tercetus, tapi malangnya Singaporean have not balls!
PERCAYALAH!!!

I understand your frustration mate but I think you'd agree there's no place for violence in football. Fans can provoke each other all they want but in the end the talking is done on the pitch and sadly, we ended up on the short end of the stick. Good thing is the return leg is in Bukit Jalil where I'm sure Singaporean fans will receive a 'friendly' welcome.

Let's not forget Andy Reid.

But the difference between them is, as my wife points out, the China fei chai's mushroom haircut doesn't help. tongue.gif

First of all, other than Msia, why do you all support your favourite teams/clubs in other countries like Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool/Barca/R.Madrid/Milan etc?
Why do you see more reds or blues in the stadium in the last 2 weeks than yellows-black?
There's only 1 reason - they can perform.

We are born Msians by birth. That's fair. And you guys also support your favourite teams, by choice. That's also fair. The English, the Dutch, Portuguese as well as French have garnered the supports from their nationals and also won their fans' respects because they know their players can perform.

The Indians and Pakistanis also win the respects from their supporters and fellow countrymen, not in gymnastics, not in football/soccer, but in crickets and hockey because they are proud of their achievements and performance in these sports.

So do the Chinese. Yao Ming, their icon in basketball. Their gymnasts, their badminton star Lin Dan and so on. Because they know their supports will be rewarded and answered by world class performances at the world stages. Now, do you expect to see Chinese cricket fans showing support in amateur cricket match? Hardly.

Football is the most popular sport in the world. Yet we hardly see much supports shown by Chinese and Indians. That's because they know that even with 2.5 billion populations, they can hardly find 11 dudes that can kick the ball straight.

Back to Msia. While supports are very important in crucial matches like World Cup qualifier against arch-rivals Singapore, do you expect all Msians to show blind supports to the teams who have repeatedly disappointed their fans in so many years? Football is a popular sport in Msia even before Msia Independence. We saw our past achievements quickly and quietly become the dusts in the history of Msian football, with nothing much to show since then. We feel proud, sad, disappointed at some points. We celebrate, cry, condemn. But in our hearts, we know that we are always, and forever be Msians. We prayed for victories. But what can we do other than that?

The dictators in FAM have been at helm for far too long. Nothing much have changed. Do you expect the footballers to follow suits?

Agree with ameen and sky.But i think the lack of support is due to politics affecting the national team. What the hell are politicians like khairy jamaluddin doing
on the FAM board? Should be headed by former country players not politicians. The organisation is terrible and should be revamped.just like fifa with people like sepp blatter doh.gif  Only good thing that FAM did was appoint rajagobal.

I understand the frustrations of supporting local football more than anyone. Having said that I will acknowledge that there have been steps made in the right direction. With the exception of Kelantan, no other team seems intent on developing youth players and when I say "youth players" I mean like from the age of 8, not 14 - 16 when it's too late. Under the guidance of KAFA (not the state mind you), Kelantan has a youth programme comprising of about 300 odd players and out of this, they have a elite team consisting of the cream of the crop. I don't see any other state team doing the same. The problem with state managed team i.e. everyone else is that often revenue gets channeled elsewhere and not back into the game. This doesn't only stagnate progress but if you consider that the rest of SEA is progressing, we have actually regressed which explains the current state of our football.

Having the Harimau Muda squad play in the Super League and also selecting mainly U-23 players for the national team has born fruit. Results were expected to be dodgy for awhile but when you play so many competitive games together it is only a matter of time before you reap the rewards. The responsibility of identifying, training and developing young players can now be less of a burden to state teams who have by and large, failed to change.

Having said that, I don't think it's about if a team is playing well at the moment or not. All we want is to see efforts and initiatives aimed at taking our football in the right direction and for a very long time, they were non-existent.

football carnivals are more like talent finding exercise. What we need to focus more is talent training exercise. where players are put at a proper place for a proper period of time with proper teachers to teach them proper syllabus.

Agreed. Some academy sort of thing where they have structured training and studying periods. Having football carnival is one-off and not a sustained effort at improving our youth.

I heard on radio a long time ago (I think it was that dude who merajuk to Germany) who said that at youth level below 12 yrs old, Malaysians are actually on par with most of Europe. However, between 13-16 years old, the number of proper competitive matches played by Europeans is more than 3-4 times than Malaysians. Which means, if our boys played 10 matches a year, chances are Johnny English & the boys have played close to 30 games, which is sort of like a whole season for a pro league.

Precisely. Identifying youth is one thing but development needs to start as early as primary school during PE classes even. I don't know what it's like today but during my day, PE classes consisted of the teacher throwing the ball in the middle of the field for 50 kids to chase while he's sitting down on his chair having a nap. It was the same in secondary when even during school team training, the coach was non-licensed. It was like you and I having a go after accumulating enough 'experience' playing Football Manager. Everyone has to work hand in hand and the schools play an important role in identifying and developing young kids since scouts only attend (at least I assume they do) big sporting events and tournaments. Discovering them is one thing but what's next then? These kids then need to be put into a programme to make full use of their talent. If I were to take KAFA (again) as an example, they train their kids 2-3 times a week and this is on top of whatever they do in school.

Fair point. I focus on KAFA because I'm most familiar with them. No surprise then that there a number of players from Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan and Selangore in the national and youth team.

yeah.. things like this should be highlighted to attract awareness... i am sure there are a lot of parent out there who want their children to be taught by good teachers instead of learning by themselves on the field.

One of the things lamented in youth football circuit is the absence of a centralized syllabus as a backbone to coaching. Every center provide training to players using their own 'unique' experience. which is actually trial and error exercise and a learning curve for the part of the coaches themselves which take time to be right. A proper syllabus will help the coaches to start higher up on the learning curve.

This is exactly right. I've spoken to foreign folk promoting coaching stints in Hull, Tottenham, Arsenal, etc and they said the very same thing. They likened us to countries like Korea and Japan where by the time their 16, their youth players could have played more than 5 times the amount of games our lads have. This is why I laud the effort to have the Harimau Muda team play in the Super League.

They are not products from the states... They are the products of Bukit Jalil Sports School (Richard Scully is very proud of this), most of them anyway... I also blamed the state teams last time for not making youth development a priority like you said but now, my view has changed a little... At least something is being done in the last few years...

If not mistaken, KFA is the one who started this youth development agenda ... Under Datuk Basri Akil... They won double treble under Azrai Khor with this thinking...

I don't know about you guys but if FAM want to 'force' youth development, probably FAM need to implement some rules like 'X number of players must come from the state he represent'... '6+5' rule come into my mind for this.... biggrin.gif

well, for me.. KAFA is moving towards more business minded football.. which is good for me..
i hope lots of FA and clubs will follow them..

the more we business our local football, i think our league will become more and more powerful.

now i have to think which state i want to support..

is it selangor (by born) or kelantan (glory hunter brows.gif brows.gif )
