actually... this got me thinking...

the new version supposedly is able to wake up Viber when messages or calls come in coz originally the complain from users were that it's supposedly consuming battery when its running.

so... won't all calls and messages get connected immediately if this is the case?

or is this new version thingy only applicable to Android...? which means:
* android-to-ios, the above applies.
* android-to-android... calls and messages will all go thru immediately?
*
I'm not sure I understand fully what you mean..

Viber gives you the option to exit the app, and still be available to receive calls/texts. When you Exit Viber, the app itself is not even running in the background (it's completely shut off, including all of its services). C2DM takes care that if you have an incoming call/text, Viber will be "awakened" and receive it.

sorry if i was being confusing... what i meant was...

we can tell if a message has been delivered or not by looking at the arrow sign. we can also tell if a call is connected by the the ringing/ calling description. usually, a message is not delivered or a call is not connected because the user has exit viber.

with the c2dm, messages and calls are supposed to wake up viber and launch it, right?

so, in this case, with c2dm... there should not be any more undelivered messages or calls that is not getting connected, right? or is this only a feature found on android phones...?
*
C2DM is a service run by Google. Google server is supposed to "wake" viber up when receiving a Viber text or Viber call, even when Viber was exited.
Theoretically, it should work in 100% of the cases, but in reality - C2DM *sometimes* has temporary problems, and this will cause messages and calls to arrive with a slight delay.

This is why we recommend our users to simply leave Viber running the background (thus relying on our own servers).

@smwah - Viber uses about 0.5MB per minute of call. This is about to be even lower once we release our update soon.

@shark7 - When making a WiFi-WiFi call, Viber should work fine without any special problems. Please check your WiFi network and try making a Viber call with a friend when you are on a different network (this way you'll isolate the problem).

In order to use Viber you must be online, just like any other app that uses the internet.
Otherwise, how would you know if you receive calls/texts? smile.gif

hopefully the coming update include the landscape mode as for my HTC ChaCha...

ChaCha is quite a rare device. We might be adding full support for it in the future, but for now unfortunately we can't guarantee anything.
Once Viber 2.1 is release, I'd appreciate if you could install it and let us know of any special issues.

It seems as though there is something slowing your WiFi network down. Please run a speed-test and make sure that it's actually 1mb on download AND upload (many times the upload rates are very low, and this causes Viber to give you poor quality).

The good news is that in the future we plan to add a feature that'll slightly "lower" the quality of Viber calls on bad networks if it detects that the connection is somewhat choppy, thus "sacrificing" on quality in order to assure stable calls.

Hi all,
Sorry for the late response:

@Boy96 -
Is any of you using Viber on a blocked WiFi network? (usually a school network, workplace network, etc.)
It sounds as if the network is blocked.

In order to use Viber behind a firewall, make sure the following ports are open (ingoing AND outgoing):
TCP: 5242 + 4244
UDP: 5243 + 9785

@xproc -
To be frank, we haven't thoroughly tested Viber on that device yet (due to the fact that it's still quite rare in the market worldwide), but we assume that it should generally work fine, with some potential incompatibility issues.

We'd love for you to test it and let us know if anything goes wrong.

@kshen - to be honest, we haven't yet tested Viber on Galaxy 5. We are working hard on testing Viber on different devices. Please check out our list of officially supported devices at: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/Knowled...em-requirements which we keep updating. However, we are going to release a new, more stable version in few weeks and would be happy receive your feedback.

@dvng - you can register with your mobile/landline/temporary number just to receive the access code. As soon as Viber has been activated you won't need it anymore smile.gif

@tmtmnut and @dvng - there are some known audio issues with SGS. We are working hard to fix them for the new Viber version that's going be released in few weeks. We'd be happy to hear your feedback smile.gif

@dvng - can you receive regular calls and texts to this data line?
If so, you should be able to register on Viber with it.

@wkkm007 - it's under discussions at the moment, meanwhile you may use the EXIT button. smile.gif

@phoenixstudio - done on the upcoming version that will be released in couple of weeks smile.gif

Viber texts are "stored" (encrypted of course) in our servers for up to 2 weeks only if they are pending delivery to the destination user. Once the recipient got the message, it's immediately deleted from our servers.

If the destination user is online and received the message, it's never stored in our servers even for a second.

- Viber now supports Landscape mode.
- And many more new features and bug fixes.

Should you have any questions regarding this new version or about Viber in general, please do not hesitate to ask.

@viber, landscape mode only activates in a message thread. Rest of UI refuses to go to landscape when tilted. Deliberate or bug?
*
For now it's deliberate, and we plan to expand Landscape mode to more and more pages in the future (implementing it on message screen was naturally the most crucial feature).

@mydragoon - thanks for the report. we will look into it, and see if we can find the source of the problem.

May I ask what OS you are running, and whether or not you're running a customized ROM?

Also - if you have time, screenshots would be very helpful.

Thank you!

@Shizuru - sorry, there's no work around the problem. Are you getting the code now? Is everything OK?

@mydragoon - thanks for the info. A new 2.1.2 version for Android is now on Market. Please try it out and see if it solves the problem.

We will look into it, but so far we haven't received a common complaint about the location button.

So I understand now that you managed to download 2.1.2? Did it solve the notification problem?

@HeartRoxas -
Thank you for the kind words smile.gif We are happy that you are enjoying Viber.
We are aware of the occasional noise on our new sound engine, and we're working to fix it these days. Customization options (changing ringtones and adding emoticons) will probably be added in the future, but we still don't know exactly when. I'll let you know, as always, once it's ready.

Meanwhile, you can add emoticons inside Viber texts through an external app, for example Emoji.

As far as we understand, it's a known issue of Market, not Viber's.

Meanwhile, until that bug is fixed, you can try the direct link to our latest released .APK - http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/Knowled...-android-market

Hi all,
If i can add a stone to the edifice,

Since the last update, I have lost the emoticons from vibers, I can't even receive the one from Iphone users. They appear as special charaters and chinese or japanese characters.
Any fix or add on app to fix this?
Thanks
*
Hmm...
We've just tried sending emoticons on the new Viber version (using Emoji), and they are sent just fine.
Are you sure both sides have the emoticon client, and that both sides have the latest version of Viber?
