Hi all,
Viber 2.0.2 has just been released to Market!

What's new?
- Viber is back on Market for HTC Wildfire and HTC Hero users. However, note that due to immanent compatibility problems, Viber might not work 100% smoothly. We're working hard to improve these problems.
- After hard work, as promised, Viber now supports *some* of the famous custom Android ROMs, such as CM7 and MIUI. We need your feedback in order to make sure the major problems with these ROMs are now resolved.

Please make sure you download the latest version.
As usual - for questions/technical issues feel free to contact me.

Regards,
Viber.

@Hico - no, after you exit button, it's simply killed, it doesn't run in the background (no battery consumption).
We'll look into the "auto run" of Viber that you're describing, and see if we can find this bug in our labs.
What @mydragoon explained is correct. C2DM "wakes" Viber to life, but before that happens, Viber is shut off completely.

@Dannyl - see answer above.
About ringtones - embedded in the app itself. We also don't want our users to alter the app itself, so we are working these days on the development of the custom ringtone option.

@dust - no landscape mode yet. This will be available only in Viber 2.1 (no dates yet).

- A2SD is planned, but no exact estimation yet.

- People who've experienced issues using Viber - we're having temporary issues with our server - we're working hard to fix it right now. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope it will be back up and running soon. Please try again soon and report if it works.

@law_yew_wooi -
We assume you live in Malaysia?
There is a known issue with inability to receive our SMS in Malaysia. We are currently investigating it and hoping to find a solution soon.

In the meanwhile please contact our support team at http://support.viber.com and they will stay in touch with you and possibly ask for your help to test and solve this issue for the sake of all users in your country smile.gif

@xsaintzx -
- Landscape coming soon.
- Emoticons can already be added to Viber messages. You need an external emoticon app (usually defined as a keyboard), and then it should appear inside Viber's messaging page.
- About the extra-confirmation: we will consider it, but we don't see a reason at this stage for making a confirmation dialog. It usually annoys most users, and to be frank, we didn't get this complaint from any other user before. We apologize for the inconvenience sad.gif
- Changing the ringtone is planned for the future. Not sure when exactly though.

You might be able to install it, but it's probably not going to function 100% smoothly, because Viber isn't officially compatible with Tablets yet.
We're developing it these days and will announce once it's ready.

we don't know of any special problems with Galaxy Ace.
Are you sure you don't have anything else colliding with Viber?

@onscreen -
Well, it is YOUR job to get more friends to use Viber wink.gif

@d3m0n - Viber for new platforms is being developed these days: Viber for Blackberry is coming soon, and even Viber for PC/Mac is being developed. In the future, we plan to expand to more and more platforms, like Symbian and WP7.

@CuriOu5 - thank you for the information and the screenshots. At first you said Viber will force close immediately after install it (so you couldn't use it at all). Has this changed now? How?
Also - about the new problem you described now, can you please try to elaborate on the exact steps by which we can recreate this bug? Start from the beginning, step-by-step, so we can test it here in our labs.

@ryuzaki_L - it's a standard feature of many apps (for example - WhatsApp) that imports your contacts from Android's main app, and uses them in order to find other friends of yours who already have Viber (or will install it in the future).

@hxcpride - About the galaxy-galaxy calls: make sure both of you are using high-speed WiFi networks, and if you are, try using a different WiFi connection (both of you) in order to isolate the problem.
About Wildfire: unfortunately you are right (and we explicitly wrote that in our website). Wildfire is not 100% supported, and due to obsolete technologies it uses, Viber calls may be disrupted on it sad.gif

As I wrote above, the Blackberry version is in the works this very moment. We don't have an official release date yet, but it's definitely getting closer and closer. Viber for PC/Mac is also being discussed right now, and will probably be our next goal.

Viber for WP7 and Symbian is also certainly planned, but that's probably still far away.

Viber for Tablets is also in the works right now, and will hopefully be released soon to Market.

@hxcpride

We'll investigate this no TOO-TOO bug. Can you think of a trigger that started all this? Maybe a different app that you downloaded and installed?

Would you be kind enough to test Viber on a clean phone (i.e reformat your phone and try it out)?

We're trying to get to the bottom of this.

EDIT: you know what, I have a better idea: would you be willing to help us run some tests with your help and possibly send us logs so we can find the source of this problem once and for all?

Thanks for the info.

We'll look into it, but most likely it's your custom ROM causing this problem, and unfortunately we can't provide support for all custom ROMs out there.

If you ever get a chance to find a friend with a Galaxy Ace who doesn't has stock ROM, please give it a try and see if the problem occurs to them as well.

Hi all,

We're running a quick survey among our users (in Viber-dedicated threads only).

We'd like to hear your opinion: What is Viber missing the most? If you could choose the most important feature that you'd like to see in our next big version - Viber 2.1 - that's coming up soon, what would it be?

Let your voice be heard smile.gif

Hi. Any chance of making viber have landscape orientation? I'm using the HTC Desire Z and it has a physical slide out qwerty keyboard. But when I'm typing the message using it, the app doesn't reorientate to landscape, so I have to constantly twist my head to look at what I have typed.

I'd like to explain to all the users who requested an "online-indicator": we've taken your request into account, but you need to know that in the meanwhile you do have an indirect way of knowing who's online.

When you make a Viber call, if it says "Ringing..", it means the other side's phone is literally ringing, meaning they're online. If it only says "Calling..", it probably means they're offline.

Same for messaging - if you send a text and you see the "✔" sign, it means the message has been received at the other side's phone (he's online). If you only see the arrow sign, it means it's been sent from you, but pending the other side to come online (their offline at the moment).

Think of Viber as a "substitute" for your real phone. When you call/text someone, you're not sure if they are currently available or not. Right? wink.gif

how can i turn off viber completely

bcause there always viber icons in my notifications even when im not in wifi/3g  ?
does it drain the battery ?

First, make sure you have the latest version from Market.

Then, you can use the "Exit" button, inside Viber's "More" tab.
After that, your icon at the top should disappear.

However, know that Viber shouldn't be consuming much battery when simply running in the background, and uses extremely negligible amounts of KB (less then 1KB an HOUR when idling).
