hi, my son is studies in Beaconhouse now but his result is not very good. i'm not the mother that wish him to get very good in academic (For example, get 90% and above for every subject) but rather focus him to be all rounded and of course cannot be too poor in academic. This is why i'm sending him to a private school. But,base on his progress, i'm forsee he cannot get good result in UPSR. The activities in school also very minimal(only has speech and drama and gym), think may be a goverment chinese school can get more than this. In short, is not meet our objective to him there.
i'm thinking of send him to another private school, goverment chinese school or kuen cheng. Any recommendation of good primary school? Please advice...
i'm stay in Puchong, any idea if i would like to enroll him in Kuen Cheng? Thanks...

If you want your son to study in Kuen Cheng,he has to sit for test..The school have set standard for their student recruiments. My sister 12 yo, she's going to sit for their exam by end of October. Hopefully the school will take her in. Btw, we stay in Putra Heights tho, but still hope that she can get in there.

I recommend Puay Chai in Bandar Utama or Kuen Cheng in KL.

Personally, location do not matter for me, so long they receive good education.

go international school laa...ishh...

let me tell you the outcome of sending them to these schools. Materialistic.

I personally came from a chinese not famous primary school. Seriously, it was good. School didn't ask for donation upon enrolling. And if they want to build new classrooms, they will start donation, and the project was completed within 2 yrs.

In that school, everyone was just like a 12yr old kid.

But right after I joined a private secondary school, all kids uses branded goods, comparing one with another. They seriously forget about the values..

So, choose whether you want a smart and arrogant or well to do but down to earth child.

But another thing, school actually doesn't play a big role, PARENTS DO!

I've seen Kuen Cheng bus at USJ 17 before. I saw my sister's application form before, the school claimed that they have 6-8 buses travel around KL & Selangor everyday. Furthermore, i remember it stated there that the school provides hostel, and it can fit in 500 students.

You can just send your son to government chinese school (If possible).
Then for secondary school, I highly recommend you to send him to private chinese secondary school.
SMK/SK, the teaching style is very lazy compared to chinese schools, I admit, kinda regret to study in government secondary school, but I got no chance to enroll in private chinese secondary school, the fee is load for my parents.
I'm in form 6 now, the learning style is no longer like in lower/upper secondary, no more spoon feeding.
It is actually something like I was in primary school, where you have to use your brain to think instead of memorizing for exam.

Kuen Cheng primary = co-ed
Kuen Cheng sec = girls only F1-F5 - this is a problem for those unable to afford pre-u college with no choice but to go to F6.

The Min of Edu is very inconsiderate here - they just dump them like orphans to any F6 schools with leftover places, so KC girls may be put in schools far away from their house, for e.g., Gombak or Setapak.

BU Puay Chai is favorite for parents who are professionals, even yellow banana who went to missionary schools. in some cases, indian parents.

But waiting list is 3 years, even if you have BU address, there is no guarantee...I got a neighbor who had to pay RM1.2mil so buy a house in Bdr Utama in order to get a BU address...and his kid is only 2 years old.

Most parents opt for Chinese primary, but for sec schools - they send to SM schools or overseas (Singapore, Australia).

It doesn't matter which school he is enrolled in be it private or a government school. It really depends on his ability to adapt to his studying environment, your son would have to be academically competitive if he were to be enrolled in a private Chinese school. Well, that's my 2 cents on this matter, nonetheless I wish him the best of luck on his undertakings.

LOL! First of all its a chinese high school, ur son need to have a good chinese foundation..If not it's pretty hard to catch up with the syllabus. Since ur son is still standard 2, you dont need to be panic so fast. Children tend to grow time to time,so dont be too subjective ok.

Lick Hung student recruitment quite high, enter standard 1 also need to go for test 1st. Chi Wen would be the alternative choice.

This is something to worry about. Poor foundation leads to unstable building.

Hah, only Std 2. I think all school is the same at this age. Teach him yourself. This would be the most important task as a temporary measure.

This level it is still about learning to read and simple addition. In the case of subtraction, they dont even subtract numbers that need to borrow one. I am not sure what I just said apply to Beacon House. I am referring to the SRJK ( C ) syllabus. Reading here involves to 3 languages (BM, Eng, Chinese). So reading is a big deal for this level in SRJK ( C ). Anyway, if you agree with me on learning to read and simple arithmetic are the starting founding to build upon, then allocate 1 hour a day and teach him yourself. It does not matter what school he goes to. If you guide them through their primary school, they will have good foundation for secondary and should be able to find their own way.

doh.gif what is wrong with people these days. Little bit only blame the school. Beacon House, many said is a good school also got problem. Haaaizz! Blame yourself lah. What are they doing at your school (the home. teacher = you and hubby)? Left me guess, play PS3 and learn how to manja and be a cry baby.

They are learning multiplication and division now...i reached home at 7:30pm but also his bed time because he has to wake up 6am every morning. I know his bed time is a bit early but he will be very very tired if not enough sleep...smile.gif although i'm not be able to sepnd time with him every day but he has tuition every day for 1 hour. If he very depends on the tuition teacher or me, means he learn nothing from school, right? i'm not willing to pay if he is not really learn from the school, that y thinking of alternative.
At home, they are not allow to play PS3 nor any other games during weekday. only 1 hour in Sat. i will not manja them as well because this will not help them smile.gif

Ya lor. Now parents too busy working no time to help their children with school work? My dad was very strict when I was in school.
Most of my chinese friends are very successful in their lives and we still get in touch.
Honestly SK/SMK is good for your children.
Quality of education depends on your effort as a parent to provide external guidance, not just solely depend on teachers to teach everything.
I looked at my sister's school in Subang, very competitive I tell you. Her classmates result are extraordinary. 90% and above for all subjects. And they're mixed.

At least you got two of the key elements that spells failure under check. Good for you. To give them 1 hour a day may be a bit difficult since you have more than one (you used they/them). If you have two, then hubby take one while you take the other. If you have more than two then you will have to cut corners (ie give less time). Actually one hour a day is not enough, so it make no difference if you even give them 15 minutes. Even 15 minutes can make some difference compare to zero. Weekend are for activities with them so you can impart some life and social skills to them. Simple activities like take them to "pasar" and teach them bargaining skill is already good enough. I am surprise that kids these days (some of them already graduated by now) can go to petaling street with very poor haggling skills.

By the way, I woke up at 5am when I was in std 2 because I walk to school. I did it in std 1 actually. What I mean is I had adjusted by the time I was in std 2. I do not go to bed until 9pm. I am aware of the insufficient sleep thingy you mention. A lot kids today have the same problem. What makes kids today different form those of our time? Dont you think it comes down to training? Perhaps you should look at your definition of "manja".

If you are thinking of changing school like to Kuen Cheng or any SRJK (C ) I voice strong opposition. Hah, as if my objection carries weight. You have two years of chinese to catch up. According to my memory std 1 had about 500 chinese characters (a good portion of those learned at year end exceed 8 strokes) as must know words. Std 2 had 800+. You think you can cramp 1300 chinese words into your son? The first report card for std 3 (if you child fail chinese badly), the teachers will advise you to transfer to Kebangsaan school. It is simple: you have no grasp of the basic vocabulary to continue in chinese school. That happens to many children whose parents were "banana". What make matters worst was the humiliating comment that malay students dont even face such problem in spite of not having a chance to speak chinese at home.

Sorry I am not trying to look down on your son but I dont think he will qualify for a place in chinese schools. Surprisingly you think he can have a chance with "branded" chinese school like pu chai or kuen cheng. If only you realise that they filter you out at std 3. Well, they dont really kick you out. You can stay on and let your child slacken year after year and in the end, the child in a "buta huruf" where chinese is concern. Their english or malay is no better. When comes time for the SPM, the typical scenario is fail BM (no cert). KOYAK!

And they're mixed.

go international school laa...ishh...

let me tell you the outcome of sending them to these schools.

Not every kid ends up like this. I've cousins who studied there and all are pretty down-to-earth people. They live well within their means and eschew branded goods.

I guess people see the weaknesses of their own schools better. I've been to 4 different government secondary schools.

First one was a total hell-hole. Gang fights daily, high absenteeism, and teachers who fake illnesses to skip classes.

Second one was great mainly due to the efforts of the headmaster. It was considered a gangster school before the headmaster came in. He encouraged sports, extra co-clubs, and stopped gangsterism there. Also the first school in the district with 10A1 student (back in 1993) when the control school that got all the funding couldn't produce any.

Third school was an average one. Mix of good and bad teachers.

Fourth school was a technical school. Teachers were mostly dedicated and good, but the principals were quite terrible. Mostly political appointment and there were 3 in the span of 2 years there.

Teachers, parents, and students themselves play an equally important role. In the first school the teachers didn't give a damn. When I changed school after 2-3 months there, I was still in chap 1 of the science text book. The new school was in chap 3 or 4 already. That's only 1 subject. Had a whole lot of catching up to do since I was behind in everything.

Not all schools are equal. Just make sure the one you're sending your child to is not a shithole.

Just ask your goddam kid to study a little more, doesn't matter what school they go to because Malaysian school is all round stupid, if go the best school and get bad result means he didn't study or he's just stupid.
