This level it is still about learning to read and simple addition. In the case of subtraction, they dont even subtract numbers that need to borrow one. I am not sure what I just said apply to Beacon House. I am referring to the SRJK ( C ) syllabus. Reading here involves to 3 languages (BM, Eng, Chinese). So reading is a big deal for this level in SRJK ( C ). Anyway, if you agree with me on learning to read and simple arithmetic are the starting founding to build upon, then allocate 1 hour a day and teach him yourself. It does not matter what school he goes to. If you guide them through their primary school, they will have good foundation for secondary and should be able to find their own way.

what is wrong with people these days. Little bit only blame the school. Beacon House, many said is a good school also got problem. Haaaizz! Blame yourself lah. What are they doing at your school (the home. teacher = you and hubby)? Left me guess, play PS3 and learn how to manja and be a cry baby.

At least you got two of the key elements that spells failure under check. Good for you. To give them 1 hour a day may be a bit difficult since you have more than one (you used they/them). If you have two, then hubby take one while you take the other. If you have more than two then you will have to cut corners (ie give less time). Actually one hour a day is not enough, so it make no difference if you even give them 15 minutes. Even 15 minutes can make some difference compare to zero. Weekend are for activities with them so you can impart some life and social skills to them. Simple activities like take them to "pasar" and teach them bargaining skill is already good enough. I am surprise that kids these days (some of them already graduated by now) can go to petaling street with very poor haggling skills.

By the way, I woke up at 5am when I was in std 2 because I walk to school. I did it in std 1 actually. What I mean is I had adjusted by the time I was in std 2. I do not go to bed until 9pm. I am aware of the insufficient sleep thingy you mention. A lot kids today have the same problem. What makes kids today different form those of our time? Dont you think it comes down to training? Perhaps you should look at your definition of "manja".

If you are thinking of changing school like to Kuen Cheng or any SRJK (C ) I voice strong opposition. Hah, as if my objection carries weight. You have two years of chinese to catch up. According to my memory std 1 had about 500 chinese characters (a good portion of those learned at year end exceed 8 strokes) as must know words. Std 2 had 800+. You think you can cramp 1300 chinese words into your son? The first report card for std 3 (if you child fail chinese badly), the teachers will advise you to transfer to Kebangsaan school. It is simple: you have no grasp of the basic vocabulary to continue in chinese school. That happens to many children whose parents were "banana". What make matters worst was the humiliating comment that malay students dont even face such problem in spite of not having a chance to speak chinese at home.

Sorry I am not trying to look down on your son but I dont think he will qualify for a place in chinese schools. Surprisingly you think he can have a chance with "branded" chinese school like pu chai or kuen cheng. If only you realise that they filter you out at std 3. Well, they dont really kick you out. You can stay on and let your child slacken year after year and in the end, the child in a "buta huruf" where chinese is concern. Their english or malay is no better. When comes time for the SPM, the typical scenario is fail BM (no cert). KOYAK!
