btw i need help. i dont know how to look at time table. those allocate and MUTTS. i dont understand that stuff.
I go to allocate+. i pick those time and day available. then when i click my timetable at the top right corner they only show timetable for tutorials without the lectures.
*
Yeah, 10am is totally full. Aiya, wake up early, get a nice parking lot (if you drive la tongue.gif).

Lectures for MAT 1830 don't appear for some reason. Course Management told me to wait sweat.gif For the rest, they should appear, if not wait a while. My lectures appeared after a few days except for MAT 1830.

MUTTS is to check the timetables for individual units to see if your electives clash with your core subjects.

Hey guys, just went for the talk today on International Exchange. I forgot Intercampus exchange is different sweat.gif

Anyway is it possible to do credit transfer for B. Comp Science in the 3rd year? All electives save for the final CS project. I'm planning to go for exchange then stay here another 6 months and continue in Clayton. No $$ to straight go there next year sad.gif

Comp Sci is probably one of the easiest to transfer between Malaysia and Clayton. You don't need to worry about the credit transfer at all as the course is exactly the same. Unless you had taken some funny subjects from other faculties for your free electives. But not much of this to worry about lately as the entire IT faculty is supposed to be more or less more streamlined between the different campuses now.
*
I always read that it is 'difficult' to do transfer in the 3rd year. Why is that? I think it should be fine for me because it is 95% electives. I am taking microeconomics this semester as my elective because my IT elective clashed with my core subject and I was advised to take business or arts subjects. I am looking forward to taking IT electives in Clayton that aren't offered in Sunway. Seeing how huge the campus is, I'd rather not walk between the faculties for classes.

I wonder how they choose students for intercampus exchange. Merit based as well?

they don't choose. you apply for it. But of course you'll need to maintain a certain credit average (check with the course manager for further information on this)
*
Selwyn said they choose based on merit, especially for the US and UK applicants. I meant after I apply la. Don't think everyone who applies will get to go right? Luckily still have until October to apply for Clayton. International exchange for sem 1 2013 have to apply this sem liao shakehead.gif

Hi Guys for the subject FIT1029 Algorithm and Problem Solving. Do you guys know any good book for this subject or how to improve in this subject? Cos Im pretty poor in the assignment grade. I only got 40% out of 100. Which contributes 10% to final grade. D:

Stupidly retarded subject.

The problem is no one knows what to do rclxub.gif And I noticed we tend to learn things in algo before programming. Like for loops 1-2 weeks before the programming one. I'm not sure about others, but I think better in programming terms. Man I was so lost in algo. Still am... but now made friends so can help each for assignment 2. Terrified for the mid-sem test results.

@Melvin

If you need help for discrete math, a good number of the class meets in the library level 3 to do the assignment on Friday before class. If you are in class early and notice this huge group coming in 10-15 mins late, that's us... haha.

here's a little tip. Go and look at that link that I provided in my post when I had replied to melvin.

There's quite some bits of javascript demo of the algorithms on that site. Best thing about the javascript demos is that you can view the page source and check out the code in javascript. Should be easy enough for you to port it to C or Java (whichever you're making use of as the learning language now).

If you're wondering who's website that is, that's Llyod Allison's website, the guy behind the dreaded CSE2304 Algorithms and Data Structures subject that used to plague every single CS student who went through Monash before the course outline restructuring. Its almost a guarantee then that almost the entire class will fail the exam before they scale the results.
*
I'll look for that, thanks! I was really lost in mid-term because we hadn't covered the classes part yet in Java. Sigh. Now at least I understand the slides. Recursion in algo is much easier to brain than recursion in math...

Nice... I want to join you guys. Which part of the library level 3? Were you in thr group that always sat on the first or second row on the right side?
*
Erm I forgot where I sit. Cause programming and math classroom look alike... ahaha.

Library ar... so far I joined them twice only... first time was at the big long table with the bean bags. Second time was at one of the corners with blue walls (I think), bean bags and square table. Just go there look for bunch of comp science students. Around 2pm should have already, all stressing out icon_rolleyes.gif

when you said you havent covered classes in java. You meant something like this or not this?

public class Bicycle {

    // the Bicycle class has
    // three fields
    public int cadence;
    public int gear;
    public int speed;

I meant the if statements, while loop, for loop and modules (macam methods only).

Do any of you guys know how to factorize the following?
2(3^n) + 3(3^n-1)?
from the notes it was like this
Example 1.
F(n + 1) = F(n) + F(n - 1) by de nition of the Fibonacci numbers
          <2^n + 2^n-1
            = (1 + 1/2) 2^n
            < 2^n+1

[/COLOR]
Example 2.
F(n + 1) = F(n) + F(n - 1) by de nition of the Fibonacci numbers
            >(1:5)^n + (1:5)^n-1 by the inductive hypothesis
            = (1 + 1/1.5)(1.5)^n
            >(1.5)^n+1

If you're looking to work at the university, you can try emailing the various departments to ask about vacancies, most of their contact information can be found at the monash.edu.my page. The contact info for the Prospective Students Office can be found by following a trail of links for prospective students to a "contact us" page, methinks.

In addition, you can ask your lecturers and see if they are hiring any research assistants for the holidays.

Already sent my resume to HR and it was circulated 2 weeks ago. I refuse to work for PSO after that really unprofessional experience.

QUOTE(skywater @ May 22 2013, 11:44 PM)
Hi all. I am very interested in taking computer science degree in Australia. I've checked the minimum qualification and I qualify with many of the universities including Monash.

Due to budget constraint, I am thinking of doing 1st year in Sunway, get at least 75% in all subjects and do the remaining two years in Melbourne.

My questions:

1. How would my degree viewed by prospective employer compared to full 3 years in Melbourne.

2. I know Monash along with ANU and Uni. of Melbourne rank among the highest for computer science. How is the quality of education in Sunway?

3. Is a personal laptop needed? I've been following Harvard's CS50 lecture where it seems laptop is not necessary. What about tutorials then?

4. Talking about tutorials, how is the schedule for this course like? - like how many lectures, tutorials, etc per week.

5. From http://www.infotech.monash.edu.my/undergra...-courses-1.html there are 3 core units. What about electives?

6. The tuition fee for studying in Sunway is still about the same as Clayton ~ AUD35k?
*
1. As far as I know, it is highly rated and in need of more graduates from computer science to fill jobs. Your degree should be the same as the one the Australian students receive. I am transferring to Clayton next year so I wouldn't be graduating from Sunway.

2. Personally my first year in 2012 was very good. I had great and knowledgeable lecturers. My 2nd year so far... well I have some great lecturers and more hit and miss lecturers. I'm not sure what the next semester holds but the Head of School has assured us they are bringing in more lecturers.

3. I bought a laptop for my pre-u days and I'm still using it now. I find it useful to do work without having to rely on the computers in the labs. We only have 2 labs in the School of IT building, a Multimedia Lab and a Networking Lab. Monash has other labs but programs which might be needed for your units won't be installed there. On my own laptop, I can install them and use them whenever I choose. I also have a desktop at home and sync my files between both machines using Google Drive. Both of them are in my signature.

4. Depends. If I remember correctly... first year first sem you will take FIT1040 Programming Fundamentals, FIT1029 Algorithmic Problem Solving, MAT1830 Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science and an elective of your choice.

FIT1040: 2 hour lecture, 1 hour tute, 2 hour computer lab per week
FIT1029: 2 hour lecture, 1 hour tute per week
MAT1830: 3 1 hour lectures, 1 hour tute per week
1 elective: (Most likely 2 hour lecture, 1 hour tute)

5. Core units for first semester:

FIT1040 Programming Fundamentals
FIT1029 Algorithmic Problem Solving
MAT1830 Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science
1 elective

Core units for second semester:

FIT1004 Database management
FIT1008 Introduction to computer science
FIT1031 Computers and networks
MAT2003 Continuous Mathematics for Computer Science

6. Generally the fee for Sunway is the same in Clayton but in RM instead of AUD. So RM33k instead of 33k AUD for example.
