FYI i sent my SGS2 for warranty claim to sme and can share the experience
IMHO...no need to reset counter...i sent mine ,already flash couple of time and flash back to custom rom.when i received it back samsung technician already reset the counter for me (or it just new mobo so by default the counter is zero).remember samsung give free unit to cyanogen mod to develop custom rom based on SGS2,so what is the point they do that if they won't accept unit with custom rom and meant for never to be flash.
in V8 already mention this.u can contact samsung and fax the receipt.at least that is what i remember...
again from my experience, samsung staff straightly know whether the unit is SME or not from the sticker on the battery and inside the phone. in my case, i didn't fill e warranty form and the purchase date on my receipt is mistated (beyond the date i send for claim) but yet samsung still honor the warranty.
i can conclude samsung SC is very attentive and i would rate 5 star if they can improvise notification system (like mine already done in 1/2 day but i only knew after 3rd day by calling them myself) and PR for some their counter rep (one particular like emotionless aka robot.never smile, never look at u when talk and only say short and concise word but she work fast)
It just a precaution measure. I'm sure the tech guy at the back understand risk of rooting BUT it's the front counter that we should be worried about especially if they had a rough day. They can practically shove the warranty card to our face and say "Read this., its stated here no warranty cover for improper testing, installion, adjustment or any alteration or modification of any kind" while giving an evil smirk.
BTW, why push our luck. Insert the jig take less then 5sec and we have a whole piece of mind.
Just saying :-P
