What is your Kernel Version? Kernel Version and Android Version is two different kind of thing.

Your kernel is from JPKG2 firmware. Just cross check with Samfirmware coz they have "Android Version" column on each firmware released.

Not necessarily. You can mix with other version of modem. Stock firmware and some Custom come with modem.

Please do not compare Android Root with IOS Jailbreak. You have the wrong concept here... totally. You need not to root to have those but we're not going to discuss it here. PERIOD. Please educate yourself and do it on your own or just cut one of your teh tarik session and buy the app.

16GB is total raw, after formatted to any filesystem, you won't get the full 16GB

Why on earth you wanted to move the app into sdcard? You have 2GB space for apps, plenty of space there. Furthermore, the internal sd is unique to Samsung since SGS1 which other phone will treat it as external sd (microsd).

Most other android phone will see the memory like.... internal rom (from 256MB to 1GB) for app -> external SD (memory card from 2GB to 32GB)

For SGS it will be like... internal ROM 2GB for app -> internal SD (MoviNAND / USB Storage) 12GB -> external SD (memory card from 2GB to 32GB)

In conclusion, "move app to sd" for other phone is the external SD; but for SGS, it is the internal SD.

I've no issue with Gmail on Social Hub. Are you using Premium Account feature or normal IMAP? On which screen it shows failure?

I'm using KG2 Custom, should be same anyway. Are you using stock firmware?

I've no idea on how to assist you but I did face an issue on Social Hub last week whereby only Gmail did not work. But it threw network error during setup. Just try tomorrow see if it works, sometime Social Hub service offline for unknown reason.
