My wife brought home a few boxes from my in-laws, (old folks tend to avoid them nowadays) and I ate one but it was terrible. Very dry! rclxub.gif Seeing them appearing even before the beginning of 'Phor Tor' month, it must have been lying there for almost 2 months rclxub.gif

Crispy corn tortilla skin, truffle fois-gras caviar filling and marzipan moon ball....... it's a Rm100 mooncake? Yuxxxxx !

Miss the original mooncakes, with thick finely ground very black bean paste that is made with real pork lard, no sunflower seeds, double yolk optional. No good if the bean filling is powdery, coarse, too sugary, not just charcoal without burnt sugar taste. Cheaper would be good too!

Materials cost of a mooncake is similar to Chinese 'Wedding biscuit' about RM1.50/pc. Mooncake producers are making HUGE profit citing once a year opportunity.

Pork lard is substituted first by peanut oil than palm oil for additional profit. Filling is loaded with sugar to prevent spoilage. Preservative is almost certain added to the skin else will go off in 2 weeks.

Emm... usually I take 1 whole moon cake at a time to feel the satisfaction. I buy less while the price goes up, and female family memebers scared of getting fat, refuse to take...
I used to buy the "yok wu hin" till one time the moon cake skin peel off from the filling...
Last year tried the casahana, feel so-so only, KLT better. This year I'll try the baker's cottage.

Thanks! I finally bought the 1 at Corus hotel KL which had great reviews on their durian mooncakes.. No idea about the double yolk n sesame so I bought 2 boxes from there.
2 durian mooncake
2 musang king moon cake
2 sesame moon cake
2 double yolk moon cake

Will review it when I have tried it!

Thanks!

Anyways I was asking around for mooncakes and some said that the best time is around 2 weeks before mooncake festival because .. those mooncakes that were sold 2 months before the festival are mooncakes from the previous year.. A client of mine had an experience with moldy fungus in her moon cake which was really disgusting when i heard about it!
