Piscesguy, it's hard to survive on 50mm alone. Keep your kitlens until your have the resources to get an upgrade for it.
*
Ok, on second thought...I just keep it. smile.gif

Agreed with lwliam, keep the kit lens, 50mm seems versatile enough for me. I seldom using the kit lens now, but prefer to keep it as backup.

Will probably get a wide angle for usage.
*
I don't see myself carrying 2 lens now.. laugh.gif

Once you taste the IQ of a prime lens, you will never go back to kit lens. Heck probably only the pro grade zoom lens will satisfy you tongue.gif.
*
I guess pro grade zoom lens will cost more than my cheapo d40, takut the body cannot take it.. laugh.gif

Introducing myself as a new Nikon D3100 user since end of August, and right now I'm looking just mainly on home use, shooting at people and family during events like CNY or Christmas. (Candid photography)

Right now I have a 18-55mm kit lens and for my shooting purpose as mentioned I was introduced macro lens, is it really macro lens that I need for my camera?
*
Perhaps u should get the prime lens.

Wow that's really nice photo! Yah just did a 5-minute research and noticed this difference! But what' D and what's G? What do they mean ? My D3100 compatible with which one ah?
*
U should go for 50mm 1.8G if u want AF.
Take note the 1.5x crop makes this a 75mm lens on a DX.

If u like MF, then u can for 50mm 1.8D. biggrin.gif

I like the composition.
Now modern Nikon DSLRs are powerful in high ISO, my ancient DSLR IQ will look like rubbish if using ISO 3200.. cry.gif
