hi frens,

i have a D90 with a kit lens. I am thinking to get a prime lens.

50mm f/1.8 shuld i get Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G or just the f/1.8d?

is it worth it to pay extra 300 ?

The G. It's worth more than the extra RM300. SWM and full manual overide.

Did you wait for the VR to settle/kick-in before taking photo?
The 55-200 is very light, very unstable when hand-held without VR, even with fast shutter you still can get blur shots.

Wait for the VR to kick in and make sure your shutter is not too low as well.

Yeah. It took me awhile to get used to the VR. Until I realised that the VR got a wierd sound like water running (or it could be that my unit is faulty, since I got it 2nd hand hmm.gif ). Wait for the sound to stop then press the shutter. After you get used to waiting for the VR to set before pressing the shutter, you should be able to get reasonable sharp pictures.

i have being using kit lens for the past year. wanna try to take some potrait with bigger aperture. Recently seen too many impressive bokeh pic so wanna try it out .Some might think it is a waste of money as it might be the photographer skill and not the lens or equip.

yup correct ... .35mm just barely above my budget and since i am testing out prime lens .. might as well just try within budget =)

If it is potrait and bokeh you're looking for then the 50mm 1.8G will be a good fix. If it is budget constrain, then 50mm 1.8D is actually very good for it's price.

The 35mm is not a 'bokeh' lens, but more of an all rounder fast prime lens. The 'bokeh' is not as pleasant even compared to the 50mm 1.8D.
