Those are called illegal immigrant.

Nolah I think he means that many people who at first didn't have any work permit or PR/citizenship managed to get a SG company to offer them a job & help them apply WP/EP/whatever.

@newaisa I'd say 90% of us here in this thread fit that description.

icic.. but i already in and out singapore for 3 times already. if got out again i not really sure can enter again or not cry.gif  i been stay here around 1 and half month already

cannot lah. the limit for visit pass is 60 days, then you have to leave for 30 days before coming back in. if you leave today and come back in today, the immigration ppl will write on your pass that you have like 15 days left to stay (assuming you been here exactly 1.5months)

what you said is true on the book and but what happen was in the "market place" not on your monitor screen.

you talking different story liao lah brother. all i'm saying is that retail players don't exchange money in sufficient volumes to influence FX rates. you're talking about profiteering moneychangers taking advantage of high demand to happily increase the FX rate spreads.

the person you reply to was talking about the money changer exchage rate at the counter but you oppose it with FX trend in global money market. Both statement are partialy true, I just point out you are talking different things.

The person i replied to said the FX rate will drop because lots of people sell SGD and buy MYR during CNY. I did not dispute his observations of the FX trend, I disputed his reasoning.

Malaysian can still pump ron95 la. my uncle (Singaporean) always pump. and 1 tank is around RM130 for his car.
When they ask, just show them ur Malaysian IC (my aunty is Malaysian), then its ok.

is this another one of your 'grey area' things? haha. i won't be buying singapore car anytime soon so i don't care, but the press release seems to apply to foreign vehicles regardless of nationality leh.

QUOTE
KUANTAN: Foreign-registered vehicles will no longer be allowed to buy RON95 petrol from August 1, said Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said these vehicles would only be allowed to buy RON97 petrol as the fuel would no longer be subsidised but subjected to a managed float.

Wow @ the author of the article. He wanted to spin the story that way and just anyhow forced the interviews to suit his hypothesis.

QUOTE
“Malaysians who have never lived abroad do not know how fortunate they are to have everything back home,” communications manager Muhammad Zafran Kadir said.
“Despite popular belief, Malaysia is one of the lowest in terms of cost of living. When I was in Australia, I had to fork out A$400 (RM1,280) a week for rent. If it were not for a government loan, I wouldn’t have survived,” he added.
Nowadays, Zafran pays RM1,500 monthly for a two-room condominium in Subang Jaya.
Zafran had worked part-time as a waiter in Australia and noted that an hour’s wage was about A$25-30.

Manager in Malaysia ... and Waiter in Australia. GEE I wonder why he found it 'more expensive' over there

QUOTE
People in Malaysia are complaining about the slight increase in petrol prices but when I was in Iowa, it was US$3.70 (per gallon) for regular gas compared to RM1.90 (per litre) here,” she said.

Setting aside the fact that everyone knows gas prices in Malaysia are unnaturally low due to subsidy, the writer leaves out the gallon-litre conversion (1 gallon is 3.8litres), presumably to elicit a "omg usd3.70 vs rm1.90 so expensive?!?!?!?" reaction from readers who mostly won't be bothered to find out what the gallon-litre conversion rate is.

okay i guess the requirement for IPA to rent a room is depend
on the landlord/agent
not the Singapore renting law itself

officially, landlords need to get hdb approval to rent out their hdb flats. and hdb will not approve if the tenant has no 'status.' for example if the tenant is on a visitor pass, how can he/she possibly sign a 1-year lease (cos within 30/60 days he/she gotta ciao liao).

my lease, actually signed 2 ppl lease from landlord (me+other). hdb in the end approved only me, cos I had IPA/EP, the 'other' at the time only visitor pass. so the agents had to re-do the lease and me + landlord had to re-sign.

rich guy spotted. and you why don't you rent it to someone? you can get 1k more lol..
you are not frugal, not thinking of financial independence?

it's not always about the money mang. when i was searching for a place i thought quite long about renting a whole unit vs renting a room, in the end based on my privacy preferences, and since i can afford, so i rather spend extra to get an entire unit than to have to share with strangers.

my starhub ... the other day i torrent at like 1.5MB/second leh.

@jurlique mobile broadband a bit tricky also, my singtel 3G (using iphone), when inside my hdb unit the signal is almost useless, can hardly access internet at all (although i'm 5mins walk from bedok town centre).

So almost 1 in 6 households in SG are millionaires. Since there's like at least 20 of us in this thread, by the stats we should have 2 or 3 millionaires, faster identify yourself!

got my first PUB (electricity + water only), fuuuuuuuuuu $300+ mang. of that, $200 is deposit, so the actual usage is just slightly over $100, but ... all these little body blows to the wallet making my legs wobbly, lulz.

[edit] to be fair, Malaysian landlords also same what. when i was studying in Taylor's in KL, the room I rented the landlord didn't allow visitors at all. But I didn't think she was an as$ or anything, it was just simply a 'here are my terms, if you don't like them don't stay here.' OK what. I would only have a problem if she didn't say anything upfront, and then after move in only say this cannot that cannot.

Guys, any of you know what is "Payee Branch Code?"

I need to pay rental soon. Landlady gave me her POSB bank account number, 9 digits. I'm trying to add this to my internet banking so that I don't need to actually queue up at an ATM. However my internet banking thing also requires a "Payee Branch Code" - my landlady has no idea what this is.

On the dropdown list I've got like dozens of possible choices, examples:

...
252 PAYMENT OPS(CHQ & GIRO)
016 PAYMENT OPS(REMITTANCE)
081 POSB
072 RAFFLES PLACE (72)
003 SHENTON WAY (03)
009 SHENTON WAY (09)
050 SHENTON WAY (50)
...

Google tells me "All POSB branches have the same branch code — 081. The actual branch is embedded in the 9-digit account number." so I'm thinking to choose 081. worst case scneario is that my funds transfer gets rejected, right?

within one full year, if you work or stay in SG for 183 days or more, then you will be taxed as a 'local.' Otherwise you are taxed as a foreigner i.e. 15% flat.

Malaysia side, the proper way to do it is get a CP-21 form from your company, then take that to LHDN and close off your tax file. Then u no need to worry to file anymore until you decide to move back to Malaysia.

Bunch of racist, if this ad is created and aired in SG...

Bye-bye, 100% kena ISA in Changi Prison.

Honestly I think it's just everyone overreacting. You know lah Malaysians super sensitive, everything also link back to race. My opinion is that the message of the ads was sincere, it's just the execution that they screwed up on.

QUOTE(venicelim @ Aug 3 2011, 08:31 PM)
So I am wondering what should I do next?

I don't really remember what job offer you got, it's just an internship kind of thing right (that's why the TEP instead of EP)? At the risk of sounding like an as$hole, HR and the Hiring Manager might not really have much interest in vigorously pursuing your case with MOM ... since after all you're 'just an intern.'

QUOTE(perkinsonline @ Aug 3 2011, 10:02 PM)
I have to leave back to China.....salary higher in China!!

CB SG.....everything also money here....i am pissed...
warning...if any of u work less than 183 days in sg be prepared to pay 15% taxes or higher....

I stay here 3 months have to pay 15% taxes and my house deposit can only get half.

What on earth are you babbling about. It's well known that SG has some of the lowest income taxes anywhere. If you hadn't decided to leave after only 3 months then you would have been taxed at resident rates also what. And the house deposit ... you signed a one year lease, didn't you? So you expect in this world that you can happily break contracts as and when you please without penalty?

QUOTE(totti 10 @ Aug 3 2011, 11:08 PM)
all housing agents that i have been in contact with
said  that they wont proceed signing a contract with me
until i get my actual EP (not IPA)

try call up this guy Willy 9824 4469, he's the agent who handled my rental. we did all the formalities with IPA only, after got EP card then gave a copy to him/landlord to give HDB.

So what's the down side that the company consider?
I dont understand why the HR seems like so irresponsible in my case.

What I'm saying is that now that you've run into complications with your TEP, the company now needs to conside:, "do I really want to go through all the effort of vigorously following up with MOM just for an intern who I might not even convert to a permanent staff after 4 months."

I don't want to rain on your parade, but based on the company's actions thus far, isn't their answer to the above question quite obvious?

could i possible to show the singapore officer the "medical checkup report for working permit" so that they let me enter singapore again?anyone face this problem before?

just to rephrase your question ... if you don't get a job, you need to vacate singapore from 16august to 16september.

you are asking what if you get a job offer today, and your work permit IPA is issued on 22august, whether (1) you are allowed to come in with the IPA on 22august, or (2) no matter what you gotta wait til 16september then only come back in.
