i am using WinXP pro with my Thinkpad R60. What is the performance different between 1GB x 2 (Dual Channel) and 1GB + 2 GB ram assuming Max support is 3 GB?

I am using 512MB x 2 now... Corsair Value Ram @ 667

superflc, the max ram supported on R60 is 4gb, and u'll hardly notice the difference either dual or single channel w 2gb or 3gb n above

unless u r greatly in multi tasking, or ram eater application, or else, 1gb w win xp will be just nice
*
hiyee, i thought last time according to the Lenovo website, the max support for R60 is 3GB? I'm running Win XP pro not vista though.

please refer to here for max ram support: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-64191.html

Anyway, My current memory usage is at 82% so I DO need an upgrade of ram to boost the performance of my machine.

Am thinking on either 1GB x 2 or 1GB + 2GB or 2GB x 2.

Since the price of ram is cheap now... and price is so expensive in Australia... I am seriously thiking to upgrade it to 2 GB x 2!!!

Cheers to wtm0325!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

wow wat a persuasive link from lenovo tongue.gif

but if browsing through previous pages, austin used 4gb on his T60 before, and 945gm chipset actually supports 4gb physically, but u need a 64bit proc n 64 os to fully enable it

http://www.futureshopforums.ca/futureshop/...message.id=1539

but it's better to play safe, use 3gb biggrin.gif

thank you for ur reply. I gonna take my lappy and go to lowyat this saturday to play around with the different memory configuration. If my R60 can support 4GB, I will go for it!!!

maybe I will not fully utilise the performance of 4GB memory, but I can't wait to get a taste on how it going work tomorrow!!! hope it will show me some magical moment!!! hahahaha....

what you reckon?

cheers to wtm0325!!!!

Happy Healthy New Year!!!!

hehehe..
i'll prefer to get

a) 1xkingston 2gb stick at RM140 (2GB is really enuf, and single stick can upgrade later n save battery life too tongue.gif) and

b) 1x 160gb hdd.. as the current 60gb is way too slow, it'll give noticeable performance compare to 4gb ram at my current usage

cheers
*
160gb hdd? you mean u gonna upgrade the lappy's internal hdd?

i am getting one external 250gb sata hdd plus casing @ RM400. good bargain from lelong. biggrin.gif

how to clone the internal hdd before upgrade?

cheers~

upgraded to 2GB x 2, but my system only shows max support 3GB.

however, under the windows task manager "commit charge", the LIMIT shows 4GB and so far my system PEAK that ever recorded is about 2.63GB!!! under the PAGE FILE USAGE HISTORY it shows that current ram usage at around 36% of the overall graph. I reckon it DO utilise all the 4GB ram. i can assume you that i am really doing MULTI-TASKING with my lappy. cool2.gif

It is a total rejuvenation to my R60!!! every cent of money worthwhile. rclxms.gif

my current graphic card sux... anyway can upgrade it?

After serving me for good 3 odd years. My R60 lappy life has approaching the end of her journey. Problem occurs four months ago when the cooling fans start giving me some funny noise noticing the potential breakdown of the fan. The pathetic noise volume building every since. I am driving crazy by it. Anyone care to share the similar experience?
