My turn. I've hacked the iPhone 4 all through when I still had it with me.

QUOTE(erymanthus @ Jul 4 2011, 11:12 AM)
1) To transfer files to a PC / Notebook using ordinary USB port?
You mean without Itunes? Nope. A few apps CLAIM to be able to do this. BUT, they have OpenSSH (we don't), which allows VERY EASY access through WIFI. We have ADB (Android Debug Bridge), but I haven't tried that yet. WE HAVE SSHDROID so this point is moot.

2) To transfer any files via Bluetooth to another phone like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, etc?
Yes, using Celeste AFTER JB. It's buggy as hell though.

3) To watch Website with Flash?
Can. Skyfire, and a few other browsers support this through streaming. Frash allows native flash but it's only for 4.1 and IT'S BUGGY

4) If battery spoilt after 1-year warranty, can they just replace the battery easily? Buy and put in yourself?
Yes. And it's easy to do really. Nothing beats a true blue replaceable battery like ours though.

5) To use video call but 3G (not Wifi)? and to other phones besides iPhone? Possible?
No. Except using Skype and 3G Unrestrictor after JB.

6) To do 3G tethering - ie act as a wifi modem, so that any PC or phone can hook on to the 3G data and surf the Net?
Built in after 4.3. JB apps like MyWi, PDANet before.

7) To watch any type of video and picture format like SGS2? ie mkv, avi, flv, divx etc?
A lot of apps can do this, even without JB.

8) To change their Homescreen and launcher style other than just changing the static wall paper?
After JB  you can have widgets and all (PerPageHTML). But THEY EAT RAM.
*
THERE ARE certain things that the iPhone does better AFTER JB, so avoid these topics at all costs.

1) Activator - Nothing like it on Android. I would PAY to have something like it on Android really.
2) Music quality - The SGS2 sucks big time when it comes to this. It's a hardware issue (the DAC on the SGS2 is crap).
3) Multifl0w - Nice grid multitasking on the iPhone + Backgrounder. Visual Switcher is DEAD on android.
4) Hard abuse level use battery life - but the SGS2 is a dual core slim as hell phone after all. Also, the SGS2 battery efficiency should improve after firmware updates.
5) Accessories - but we're quickly catching up here. Accessories are popping out like mushrooms for the SGS2.
6) Retina IPS - The extra pixels ARE useful, don't kid yourself. But the tiny iPhone screen is not.
7) Bluetooth streaming performance - Google "Bluetooth quality problem" on XDA and you'll know what I mean.
8) The App Store - A LOT of crap, but there's almost as many GEMS in there too.
9) Winterboard - Makes the iPhone 4 VERY EASY to theme. Unless we start using Metamorph extensively (which will mean that we will be on par) Android SYSTEM files are still quite hard to mod YOURSELF.

Not to say I don't love my SGS2, I do, very much. Just laying down clear truths here, there ARE SOME things the iPhone simply does better.

But beyond these 9 things, the SGS2 smokes it to high heaven.

For SSH, you can try SSHDroid. I'm using it on daily basic to transfer files between my laptop and SGS2.

FastDormancy saves battery when enabled IF YOUR CARRIER SUPPORTS IT (which I doubt). If not it will become unnessecary overhead and waste your batt instead.

Strange, the new ori korean batts seem to last longer by a bit for me even fresh outta the box, full work day medium usage for me (7-6).

Noice.

Maybe it's just all the batt saving tweaks I'm running (setcpu profiles, chainfire night mode to lower autobrighness a bit - default is a tad eye burning for
me) compared to before, even underclocked the SGS2 never really feels THAT slow.

I don't even do NANDBackups, afraid the stuff I modified is gonna result in botched restores later (manual substitution of themed unsigned system apks tend to do this). I usually just go clean wipes with TB data backups and manual backups.

Maybe I should do one next time I clean wipe, just in case.

It is always good to have at least ONE nandroid backup. In case your phone fail to boot/crash for unknown reasons  - you can access this backup from recovery and restore a full working rom with all your data/settings/app etc exactly as in same state during backup. As saying goes " accidents can happen and it can happen to you too..don't assume you will always be safe"
*
True, gonna do one now, JIC anything were to happen.

After all, hacking system files on a regular basis is BOUND to result in SOMETHING breaking sometime lol.

If you plan to change baseband I suggest change to XXKE4. Download link and flash using odin as phone

I concur. The best baseband I've tried yet for Malaysia. Good reception and great battery life. Using with VillainPhat 1.4.

Also about the car charger, get ANYTHING that is iPad compatible, as the iPad needs strong current to charge too. 700ma minimum, 1000ma if possible. I haven't bumped into a 2100ma one yet TBH though.

Where got hard to get SGS2 battery?

http://tinyurl.com/3cot4mj

Original Korean-spec SGS2 battery from ExportPrive for $25. Quick and easy postage, PLUS it lasted me 10 hours straight today (Samsung must have packed some voodoo inside their domestic batteries lol, my inbox battery struggled to get past 8 hours).

Plus you get this (read the small print on the battery, left one):

user posted image

ENNNN.....EFFFFFFF....CEEEEEE (ANTENNA only lol).

But really, I'm not dissing MugenPower, I SWORE by their Nokia BL4C batteries, which was 1900mah vs the Ori 1500mah, and lasted as long as advertised (ALTHOUGH old timers at XDA/Maemo.org HAVE noted that their batteries lose charge a tad faster then Originals). And from personal use I can say that some MugenPower batteries have "loose contacts syndrome" (their BL4Cs - I had two - DID NOT work with my Nokia N810s UNLESS I wedge a piece of paper in the battery well).

But a 50mah hike for an extra $20. Not this time Mugen, I can get 2 ori batteries with ENNN EFFF CEEE (antenna) for that price lol.

The 3200mah battery on the other hand is an entirely different story. If only people made TPU cases for THAT monster.

Also on ExportPrive:

user posted image
2000mah double port Samsung charger ($22)

user posted image
Battery charger/stand ($13) - I'm using this and I can say it's confirmed ori, feels quality as hell.

user posted image
MHL HDMI adaptor ($33)

Just got the double USB charger and HDMI MHL adapter from them, express shipping. It should be here by the week or the next heh.

If buy just the battery alone, how do u charge it?
Keep swaping the battery inside the phone when u wana charge?
I mean u swap between the two battery at night so that you can charge both of it to be used tomorrow?
or is there any external charger just for the battery alone?
*
Alo bro, there's a battery charger/stand in my post right there. I bought that too - and at RM30 why wouldn't I, it's cheap AND original, and makes a GREAT battery transport case (also a nice stand if I need it to be).

Downside is, you need a spare microusb charger/cable + free port to charge the thing, but 1 use my 1200mah Nokia charger to charge my SGS2 anyway. The tiny Samsung charger pulls full duty as battery charger now.

Oh, and the Digitally Imported app is AWESOME. Planning to get an annual sub now.

Bro. How you pay? No PayPal la. AlertPay and Moneybookers only. Never heard of them. Hmmm....
*
Moneybookers. They have an option of paying w/o registering on MB (like paypal as guest). MB is a well known alternative to paypal what, some ebay sellers accept MB payment too. It's just not popular over here.

And to the guy asking about how the batt looks like, that picture on ExportPrive is a placeholder, the one I got looks exactly like my ennn efff ceee pictures lol.

@noobi3: I don't get the current craze over class 10 cards myself. Class 6 cards are better IMHO, and class 4 cards are good enough really. The SanD class 4 is faster at random r/w then most of the c10 cards I know.

And is it just me or is post editing broken in LYN using the mobile theme?

if u comparing class 4 and class 10.. for sure u'll c the different... when u put ur file or data at ext sd storage the processing speed can feel faster... especially when open all those big 1080 video file at ur device....tongue.gif...

btw... class 6 quite hard to find also and the price not much dif with class 10..... So i rather go for class 10 instead of class 6... smile.gif
*
Well, IMHO:

QUOTE
Bottom-line, If you want your card purely for transfer speed, (copying movie, music, and other files.) Get a class 10. If you dont mind waiting two minuts more, but getting a better in phone performance. I would recommend getting a sandisk class 4. Their speeds are comparable with other cards class 6 and they are the best in random writes. Im sure people can confirm my opinion. It's also better for your wallet!

Edit: Since people will probably want to know. There was no difference whatsoever between the class 10 and the class 4 cards in playing from and recording-to Sd with both full hd and 720p.

QUOTE
I agree with you, I am getting an almost double random write with my 32gb sandisk class 4 card. Which costs almost half. The sole reason I see for buying a class 10 of most brands is because you want your movies/music collection to be on your on your card 2 minuts faster.. Which is not a good reason to spend that much extra on a card.. Really people should know that random read and writes are the only thing that indicate the "real" performance on smartphones.

From the one of the guys who tested the write speeds of cards on XDA, and I my testing of the cards I have echoed his findings as well, but YMMV.

BUT: the class 4 advantage only applies to ORIGINAL SANDISK class 4 cards, it seems. AND since Sandisk decided to stop selling high capacity (32gb) class 4 cards nowadays (most of their cards now class 2), it's gonna almost be as hard to find as a class 6 lol.

Guys, any tip to reduce heat issue, aside from reducing brightness?

It felt not comfortable when browsing more than 10 minutes.
*
Underclock and undervolt. 1.2ghz is overkill to begin with, dual core summore. I run 1000-500, undervolted across the board by -75ma. My phone stays only a tad warm unless being charged, performance impact is minimal unless I play intensive games and I get much better battery life.

It's win win.

hi... can explain abit about what you mean by 'confirmed ori'? as in confirmed manufactured by Anymode? Anymode is a good brand? and just wanna confirm... when docked, the phone also gets charged?

thanks...
*
Anymode = Samsung official korean partner/subsidiary. And it's just a stand, not a charger. THOUGH, I can stand my phone on one side and charge with my charger.

QUOTE(benny888 @ Jul 6 2011, 12:03 PM)
Another often raised issue is battery life - I always say the phone is dumb when it comes to battery life. The user must be smart to know how to configure his phone, his apps to improve battery usage.
*
Quoted for truth. The iPhone is retarded in this sense (no REAL multitasking and push nots instead of REAL background daemons) so battery life is comparatively stellar. My heavily modded i4 also had crap battery life really, only a few hours longer in actual use compared to my SGS2.

QUOTE(manx @ Jul 6 2011, 02:50 PM)
ya it is good to get the warranty if you really want to use till 5years... if not you are just paying to satisfy yourself but not using the service.
*
Just attractive advertising lol. I got my 2 years SEP SGS2 pun because of an assured bump in resale value due to 2 years warranty.
Don't think the extreme 5 years warranties at Seng Heng/SenQ is transferable so, it's useless in that sense. Plus I MIGHT JUST use it that long if nothing AS interesting pops up in the 2 years to come.

UNLESS you plan to change (or already are changing) phones every 5 years lol.
