I don't think the M40 supports DDR2, although I upgraded mine to 1GB of DDR 333=-:~ TOSHIBA Club ~:-=, In Touch with Tomorrow

915 chipset can Run either DDR or DDR2.. see the vendor choose wat for u.. I mean the socket.. if they choose DDR socket.. no way u can fit DDR2 RAM on it.. u may try.. but just my point here..

Myself using Satellite 2410 Pentium 4 1.8G with GeForce 4 and 512MB RAM with 30G hard disk.
For me find it a good performer and has been giving me no problems for the almost 3 years that I used it. Only I find that it is a bit heavy and would like something lighter with USB. Anyone using the same model ? Would welcome suggestions for new lighter notebooks Celeron also is fine...as I am on a low budget... Or if any dealers want this notebook... if the top-up price is reasonable.. I would consider. |

I saw the Celeron model of the M40. To my eyes, I find the CSV screen much brighter and clearer than my old screen. Also contrast looks better when displaying photos.
But only thing I noticed is there is a bit more reflection where there are strong light sources nearby or overhead like flourescent or spot lights. My favourite part of Toshiba notebook is the screen. |

Here is one of the links http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/index.jsp
Toshiba, the brand is from Japan but now the toshiba laptops we r getting r made in china toshiba is more pricey whereas dell is much more affordable toshiba is more towards the premium market although they hav low end laptops quality wise, toshiba has a slight edge over dell but dell's customer service is very good plus the 3 years warranty if i'm not mistaken mine also made in china but so far no problem 4 same the same price, dell's spec is much better it all depends on ur usage n budget |

From what I see from the few models I saw they are made in Philipines now (Toshiba) but where exactly the parts come from, I'm not sure. My almost 3 year old Satellite is made in Japan. From the casing and the hinges you can see the difference in quality.
