Hi~

I own a Senheisser HD598 and looking for a portable DAC+amp that could boost the headphone. Recently been eyeing the Cayin C5 but wondering if it can handle the headphone as i've owned a Fiio E7 and it doesnt come close to supporting the headphone. Can sifu here advice on what is the budget choice to drive my headphone. Thanks in advance.

The Cayin C5 should be a excellent combo with your HD598, I've listened it with DT880... sounds great tongue.gif

Hi guys,

I have a friend in the US who can score some goodies for me.

I have a Beyer Custom One Pro (16 Ohm impedance, 93dB/mW) and I wanna get a DAC/Amp for it. Source is iPhone/iPad(lightning) and laptop.

I'm thinking about 2 choice right now:
JDS labs C5D
Beyer A200P

In terms of technical spec - C5D is definitely better. Most Head-Fi reviews also say C5D is amazing. The A200P is just 'ok' - better than laptop, but not much compared to iPhone5S output even (which I don't have...). The thing with the C5D though...is portability - it is so amazingly small and comes with a nice belt clip etc...damn awesome.

I thought about the Leckerton UHA-6S also (InnerFidelity WOF) but that one looks too big, but the amp stage easily beats C5D.

What do you guys think?

By the way - my main worry is driving the COP to full volume. It can get loud off the phone, but not by much. The problem with all Amp manufacturers is crappy spec (I'm totally with nwavguy on this). The C5D only publishes power into 32 Ohm load while the Beyer A200P states a bloody meaningless 1.7 Vrms. At least Leckerton specifies the power into 16 Ohm...but seriously....the looks sad.gif

I second the C5D being a superior choice. A200P is actually a re-badged AK10.
And don't concern about your main worry, I doubt an amp like C5D couldn't bring your COP into ear-breaking loud volume level laugh.gif

by the time you are pushing COP to distortion, you are well into ear damaging levels. comparing with ATH-M50X, the COP does reach the point of bass distortion faster sweat.gif

not sure of your budget, the Teac HA-50 is really good as well thumbup.gif

Hello guys, I want to ask your opinion between these three choices: FiiO D3, Orei DA21 and Lepai LP-2020A+. To be honest I'm not quite sure what to look for, but I am looking to spend less than $50 USD (I study in the US). I chose these three because they seem to have a lot of fairly good reviews on Amazon and they were within my budget.

Source: MacBook Air/Pro/desktop/iPhone 5
Headphones: Grado Labs SR80e (arriving soon hehe)
Speakers: Bose Companion 2 Series II
Music Format: FLAC/Spotify Premium HQ Streaming 320kbps/AAC

*I don't mind adjust my budget if there are some worthy adversaries that all you sifus can recommend me. I prefer something cheaper because I live in a dorm/shared housing and because I just wanna try it out first. I will most likely spend more money down the road when I have learned more about DACs and amps. icon_rolleyes.gif

Oops, my bad, I accidentally copied and pasted those from my headphones recommendation thread hahah. I will be hooking the DAC to my Apple TV and PS3/PS4. And then to my (coming soon to my doorstep) Grado Labs SR80e. So now that we have cleared this up, any recommendation bro? icon_rolleyes.gif

*oh yeah, btw, regarding the MacBook.. will a USB DAC work great with it? Just realized that the FiiO D3 isn't a USB DAC. smile.gif

That's not the point! Haha my bad, I'm currently in several different threads including the headphones and Grado Labs thread and I have been mixing them up. Too tired liao. And uh, headphone amp? But the D3 is going to be hooked up to the Apple TV and PS3/PS4. The question still stands, no more confusions I hope hahah! Stop calling me out sweat.gif
