I assume you are referring to internal walls? I only used ICI before (and now) so I can only comment on ICI. I used ICI Pearl Glo - rose white and was very happy with Pearl Glo. It was quite easy to clean and last for years. Now I am using Pentalite Easy Clean as Pentalite is about 20-30% cheaper than Pearl Glo. Of course Pentalite is not as reflective as Pearl Glo but now I have very bright LED so it is not an issue.

These are some of the prices that I got earlier (abt 5 mths ago) You may need to check with ths shops for their latest pricing.
For internal walls: Nippon Odour-less - RM 120/ 5 lit Nippon Spot-less - RM 100/ 5 lit Nippon Satin Glo - RM 90/ 5 lit Nippon 3 in 1 - RM 110/ 5 lit Nippon Vinilex Fresh RM 88/ 5 lit Jotun Stax Matt - RM 80/ 5 lit Jotun Majestic - RM 95/ 5 lit Jotun Majestic Optima - RM 110/ 5 lit Jotun Pearl Silk - RM 95/ 5 lit Jotun Majestic Matt - RM 95/ 5 lit For Doors, timber frames, grilles, etc Jotun Gardex Gloss & Matt - RM 110/ 5 lit I do not use ICI paint as they are very much overprice. Quality is also not on par with others. About 10 years ago, maybe they are one of the better paint. Unfortunately, it is not so since these few years... I used ICI paint 10 years ago but have since revert to using Nippon & Jotun. My 2 sen... |

Personally, I'm more towards Nippon for interior.
If you have a budget, go for Nippon Air Care for indoor. Price around RM120/5L or RM36/1L. It's the only paint in the market that can absorb formaldehyde (don't know marketing gimmick or not, but I kinda believe it For exterior, both ICI & Nippon offer almost same benefit. It's more on personal preference. Again, if budget permit go for the one can reflect solar heat. So, you can reduce heat penetration through walls but still your roof is the main source for heat. |

This is from my personal experience.
I would avoid using those satin glo, pearl glo, etc. Those that gives a gloss finish to walls. Using this type of paint will expose all the unevenness and defects in the wall. So, unless your wall is very evenly finished and no patching up, etc the it would look nice. Alternatively be prepare to skim coat the whole wall before painting with these gloss finish paints. Even if you skim coat the wall, the finishing must be even, else it is back to square one... |

They will have to wash their paint brush each time they shift from one room's colour to another colour. Just slightly more work.Of course, if the whole house's walls are of the same colour, they would be able to finish their work faster; which equates to money for them |

If you have never done any house painting before, this could be daunting task to be undertaken by one person alone. Depends on your expectation, there are many different type of painters. Some can quote you cheap and their workmanship There are some painter who may charge slightly more, but their workmanship is quote good. They will take care of the floor, door knobs, etc The amount of work will also depend on the present condition of your walls. paint quality and surface.... So, why don't you ask for quotations just for painting labour alone? Previously, I have used at least 7 different colours just for the interior walls alone. Different colours for each bedroom, living and dining. Overall the paint cost is more as you will end up with so much of paint leftover at the end of the day. After that, there is another problem of having to store the leftover paint. You may need them for touch ups later.... |

Most painter will be able to quote you for labour only. Some house owners are lazy/ don't have the time to buy the paint themselves, thus getting the painter to include the paint.
If you don't mind the quality of the painting, you could always ask your wet work contractor to get his workers to paint for you. But then you should not expect too much la.... |

I tried Murobond for the exterior colour seems nice. They have very good earthy beige colour range.
For interior, as I want a fairly whitish paint, I went for ICI Pentalite Easy Clean instead - Lily white Initially, we thought of using Nippon Paint. But my contractor eventually advised otherwise as based on their previous experience, the quality of the paint seems not very consistent. Hi,
Wanna ask, I'm repainting my condo approx 1300sf - walls, doors, grills and plaster ceiling. The existing wall paint is fairly new - no peeling, do i need to ask contractor to remove old paint layer? Plaster ceiling - just Vinilex 1 coat will do? Thanks |

QUOTE(aarondotcom @ Aug 22 2011, 07:01 PM) hi guys. anyone tried mr. paintman or TOA? i heard some ppl say TOA from thailand good quality as it origin from japan.... Paintman ok to use. Just depends on ur expectation. What u pay is what u get.QUOTE(ggee_7 @ Sep 25 2011, 11:24 PM) My contractor suggested Colourland Easy Care paint for my condo interior. Matt finishes and easy to clean. Also has antimould and antifungus effects. Anybody has experience using this Colourland paint? Antimould & antifungus is just another marketing gimmick. Most important is the throughly clean the wall from stains, dusts, oil,etc BEFORE painting.Actually warranty is the most important no matter how branded or quality of the paint u plan to buy. |

Anyone here beside me have tried Murobond paints before?
Noticed no one has mentioned them, i find that they have a wide variety of paints in colour shades different to your normal ICI / Nippon. Only thing is their paints are a tad expensive as they are focused more to developers than end users in Malaysia. |

I'm using a mix of Nippon (mostly), Sisson (Ceiling) and TOA (door paint)
for Nippon, I've used Matex gold for all interior, some Momento wallpaper paint and Weatherbond Advance for exterior. |

I always recommend Jotun. Can have any colors I want instead of off-the-shelf colors. Good paint as well. After 4 years they still look like new. And no smell after painting. Just using Jotun Strax which is a matt paint.

QUOTE(Jo_da48 @ Aug 20 2011, 07:39 PM) After using nippon matex, is that a need to use other VInilex? Or Matex is like Sealer? Or perhaps could explain what the proper for Plaster ceiling (new house / new plaster ceiling)? Proper spec for ceiling emulsion paint is 1 coat sealer + 2 coats emulsion paint.QUOTE(rachelt26 @ Aug 21 2011, 11:42 PM) Hi, If no peeling, no need to remove. Can just do some minor surface preparation like light sanding.Wanna ask, I'm repainting my condo approx 1300sf - walls, doors, grills and plaster ceiling. The existing wall paint is fairly new - no peeling, do i need to ask contractor to remove old paint layer? Plaster ceiling - just Vinilex 1 coat will do? Thanks |

Is it recommended to use a cheaper paint brand for new walls? I've read somewhere new walls take 1 year to fully dry. So regardless how good quality the paint, it will still not last. I'm thinking of getting MCI paints for my exterior to save cost. And then maybe repaint with better paint after 3 years like that.

Take a year to fully dry a wall? Normally i wouldn't take that long la. The time to dry up depend on condition, a normal internal plastered wall take a bout 2 weeks to dry till a paint-able condition. External wall which subject to rain, or a water tank wall might take slightly longer to dry up. In fact, as long as the moisture content is lower than 14%, it is good to go with painting. Whether the wall dry or not, i still recommend you put a proper paint with proper system. P/S: The moisture content of a wall can be measured by a Protimeter. QUOTE(kelvyn @ Jul 9 2011, 10:12 PM) That what most painter will tell you that they will charge more if each room to be different colour. They will have to wash their paint brush each time they shift from one room's colour to another colour. Just slightly more work. Hi bro,Of course, if the whole house's walls are of the same colour, they would be able to finish their work faster; which equates to money for them may i know what typy of paint u recoment for room, living . satin glo, easy wash, ...? which type is more easy paint and no problem... heheh...thank for sharing... |

QUOTE(cheewei_2004 @ Apr 6 2012, 12:19 PM) Hi bro, Depends on the condition of your walls. may i know what typy of paint u recoment for room, living . satin glo, easy wash, ...? which type is more easy paint and no problem... heheh...thank for sharing... If the walls are bad or uneven, avoid satin glo. All the imperfectness will show up when you switch on the lights. If you plan to skim coat the surface, then OK la.. There is also another point that you need to be aware of. If you need to touch up some parts of the wall later, these area will not closely match the surrounding. Thus having to repaint the whole section of the wall. Go for matt or low sheen paint. The unevenness will not be so obvious. Less of headache. However, you may want to consider satin glo for the feature wall But make sure you skim coat, else you will not like the outcome.. |
