QUOTE(niekehecV @ Oct 19 2011, 07:12 PM) anyone here doing civil engineering? Dr Mostapha? He's a nice lecturer. Just listen to what he told you guys. You can search for past year papers and I'm sure you can't find any 3D question being asked. So as for now, learn and fully understand the basic stuffs. They are useful for your future modules.im a first year. I think my structural and engineering mechanics lecturer sucks since after A-levels Ive been wanting to deal with 3D problems, such as forces in 3D, moments, statics, all in 3D. I thought that I will learn it in my degree mana tau, my lecturer skips all the slides for the 3D tutorials, as if they are not important. Then he stresses A LOT on some very fundamental knowledge, such as the arrow of a vector indicates its sense, length magnitude, how to add or subtract vectors, etc etc. problem is, a test is coming next week and I found out from the book he recommended to buy (which is supposedly a text book?) that there are a lot more to those 3D problems. And he didnt even touch on them. Now im worried, if 3D is included in the test, I have a lot to catch up. He didnt even teach. |

QUOTE(keyzjh @ Oct 19 2011, 11:07 PM) First thing, why are you assuming he scolded me? And why would I think he is good because he scolded me? No point quarreling among coursemates. You guys will be studying together for another 4 years and be prepared to work as group together one day.And no he did not scold me. 3D IS fundamental. It is just a combination of vectors and forces. Honestly it is part of pre-university teaching, and the lecturer did ask you to read up on your own if you can't catch up. Don't expect a lecturer to teach you every single thing for your exams. 3D ain't fundamental fyi and is not just as simple as vectors and forces. |

QUOTE(niekehecV @ Oct 19 2011, 11:24 PM) all i know is that he should have spent more time on 3d problems instead of stressssssiiiiiinnnggg sooooo muuuuch on 2d problems. He has his own way of teaching and I'm sure he just want to make sure everyone fully understand it. You won't want him to fast forward a topic which you don't understand, isn't it?disappointed There are plenty of topics to cover in Structural module. So skipping 3D is actually good for you especially coming to final exam. This post has been edited by stpmmaths: Oct 19 2011, 11:38 PM |

QUOTE(niekehecV @ Oct 19 2011, 11:41 PM) I understand that he has his own way of teaching and he just want to make sure everyone fully understand it. But he fast forwarded a topic which most of us don't understand, say, did you deal with 3D problems in mechanincs during your a levels or STPM? 3D are not covered in your module. So no worries. If you have any doubt, why not you ask the lecturer directly? Or find your tutor perhaps |

QUOTE(niekehecV @ Oct 19 2011, 11:49 PM) SSSSSSSSEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS???? Next time, rather than spending your time worrying, ask the lecturer immediately if you have any problem/doubt.was about to ask him. was dead worried as I am just getting the hang of 3D problems after reading and attempting the questions for awhile. This is like pregnancy scare. Cheer and Good Luck in your test |

QUOTE(tanjinjack @ Oct 20 2011, 01:04 AM) At least you can understand what he says when he's going at a pace you can catch up with. I am sure you would have met some lecturers where you'll never be able to concentrate or never be able to understand what ABC he says in the future. Definitely Put it this way. Learning under a poor lecturer is also part of the university life. |

QUOTE(ting92 @ Aug 9 2012, 05:51 PM) may i ask is the civil engineering course in nottingham malaysia campus good as in uk one? why the entry requirement in uk campus is higher than malaysia campus? What are the entry requirements? On paper we are studying the same course structures/syllabus but to be honest nothing is 100 % similar. |

QUOTE(ting92 @ Aug 10 2012, 05:00 PM) i got both civil engineering offer from nottingham malaysia campus and um. both full scholarship, but which is better? Wow. Your condition is so similar to mine few years ago. I opted for UNMC due to international recognition. UM is public uni so expect more 'hostel life' than private. More info, do visit UM thread. As for scoring UNMC paper, it depends on your effort. Since you are a scholarship holder, I will assume obtaining distinction will not be a problem for you. |

QUOTE(ting92 @ Aug 11 2012, 07:36 PM) Learning, of course you will learn new stuff. And it depends on how much effort you put into it. Higher effort higher return. As for the lectures, don't expect top-down teaching. Learn as much as possible during lectures, don't know ask, but sometimes you won't get the answer after asking. True story. UNMC civil student. |
