I'm a student from BSc Econs
Hi manthew, I'm interested in the course you are taking, hope that you can help me out here
For Econ students, usually how many hours of teaching (lecture & tutorial) are there in a week? Is the schedule hectic?
Also, how the lecturers teach students? Do they usually provide all notes, setting exam questions based on them? Or is it that few notes will be provided so that students learn from various sources?

In one year you have to take 120 worth of credits (like any other courses I think) including compulsory subjects. Dividing two semester you have 60 (although, for econs, it's either 55+65 or 65+55. Because we have two 15 credits modules).

The hours of teaching go as followed:

20 credits worth (compulsory: Intro to Micro & Intro to Macro) - 3hours of lectures and 1hour of tutorial
15 credits worth (compulsory: QE I & QE II) - 2hours of teaching and 1(or 2) hours of tutorial
10 credits worth (most likely optional modules) - 1 (or 2) hour of teaching and 1 hour of tutorial (some may have seminars)

To see the timetable for the coming Autumn of 2015 class. (Your timetable if you're enrolling) Try this link
http://uiwdbsci01.nottingham.ac.uk:8008/re...ht=100&week=100 This timetable only shows your modules in School of Economics (SoE). Any other modules taken outside the school isn't shown here.

To see how modules selection and your possible optional module try these links:
http://programmespec.nottingham.ac.uk/mala...&year_id=000112
http://modulecatalogue.nottingham.ac.uk/ma...main_search.asp (You are likely to be able to take some optional modules from School of Politics, History and Intl' Relation (PHIR) and Business School (NUBS) -- provided there's no clash on syllabus, eg. Econometrics etc -- on top of School of Economics optionals)

Hectic? Wait til you see MY timetable.. (I know some engineering students have something to say.. shh you).

Notes are provided. However, I can't comment how good these notes are as I'm more comfortable with my own notes. You'll be given a module description in your first class and it will state which week what the lecture will cover. Try to study before lecture as some lecture can get really grumpy knowing you didn't read before coming to class. (mostly PHIR but SoE do have some of those) Reading source varies across modules. Some modules use a single textbook, some (like History 1789-1945, the reading list is as thick as my face..but you don't have to read all of them) use from different sources.

Exams are set by your lecture, approved by the examination board in the UK.. marked by both your lecturer and examiner in the UK.

Hope I answered your question. I should really charge Nottingham for providing such adequate services. I dare say I'm doing a better job than the "consultants" in Admin Building.

wow thanks for your reply thumbup.gif

I've seen cases where studying only lecture notes would suffice for exam as all questions are set according to the notes, is this the case here?
and how small is the class? are there international students?
