Hey guys... just want to know....

Is the requirement for admission stated in their website is for REAL?

Their entrance of requirement like so damn ridiculously high ... can they even get student to study at their uni??

for example the MSc they are offering .... requirements for australian degree holder is 70% average or Distinction average...

70%!!! .... you farking kidding me??

i know some of you gonna say that this is a prestige university or something but 70%???

Even Monash Uni requirement for their MSc is 60% average .... and they rank 60 in QS world uni ranking while Uni of nottingham is far back @ 76

and for uk uni ... they require 2i ... second class upper .....

so i was wondering... their MSc course got how many student one oh???

Yes, they are indeed high but that doesn't mean they only admit those who really meet the requirement. Try emailing the postgraduate admission tutor for your course. Chances are, if you do not meet the requirement, they'll call you for interviews to determine if you really fit to be our student.
If the course is new, it's quite likely they'll take below the entry requirement to boost up the student count. If they have met their target of student count, less likely they'll take those who are under the requirement.

As for MSc Mechanical Engineering, it was launched last year and the total number of student is

Just a student.

If 1.5 out of 4 translates into a 2:2 (second lower) then you might still have a chance. Else I don't think they will take you, unless you have some other quality that they will appreciate, like some solid working experience, technical certification etc.
*
1.5 translates into a failure student haha!!!

its not even half of the overall CGPA ... but no worries... my result not that bad....

By the way.. just want to ask.. hows the studying life there??

Do you guys got many activities .. clubs .. outing etc??? cause MSc tutorial and classes in a week usualy very short period... alot of free time .....

also... how many what is the majority races there?? as in mostly what race studying there?? cause i heard theres many foreign students but little local students....

Yep it's mandatory; if you don't have the correct number of reference letters your application will not be processed-- I had that problem and they lost my reference letters which is why I haven't gotten the actual offer letter yet; they just confirmed yesterday I have a place for this sem. doh.gif Email your previous lecturers in Aussie for a reference, and tell them to email it to the Admissions office here, should be good enough. Mostly they want someone who knows you to tell them that you won't simply quit halfway through, or you are a good student, have real enthusiasm for the subject, or otherwise have good personality traits they want in a student.
Anyone here have experience of staying in the downstairs room in TTS 2 terrace houses, the one that's near the kitchen? How is it like?
*
They want someone to tell them that you won't simply quit halfway through?? can you quit halfway through and still earn your degree one ah??? the degree isn't enough proof that you've completed it??

Not all lecturers are so kind hearted and free to do these stuff especialy towards student that they could hardly remember..... i know that cause the farking lecturers are so lazy that they did not even reply my enquires during my degree years....

Another thing is, how is it possible to get sign or stamp through electronicly??

is there any other way around this reference thing?? cause its not even mandatory to fill the reference part when you are applying for jobs .... and i realy dont want to bother the lecturers...

BTW.... is it just me ... or it seems like only nottingham is the only uni wants references?

That, among other things. You finishing your degree is one thing; but did you see what they ask in the postgrad (at least I assume you're doing your postgrad-- or are you going for undergrad?) application forms for reference letters? Command of English, personal experience of their time with you, and yeah-- just finishing the degree apparently isn't enough for them LOL-- basically your referree has to sell you and your application to the admissions tutor; has to explain why letting you in is a good idea. Also just because you didn't quit your first degree doesn't mean you won't stay on in your second... So likely they do want to know how keen you might be in your chosen course. Some people (like me) did a first degree in one thing and now switching to another field for various reasons: the job of the admission tutor is to get those who are coming for the right reasons.

Well if you knew a couple of your lecturers very well I'd think they'd be happy to bang out a short reference for you. Doesn't have to be a novel after all.
And no, Notts is not the only uni that wants references-- if you applied through UCAS, you'll see that just about all the British unis I've heard of need references.
*
oh jesus.... i think i should go taylors or monash uni... save me all the troubles.....

Thats the thing that baffles me.... we are paying them as clients ....not for free nor working for them ..... yet they are bothered with all these stuff.....

No offence but.... quiting the uni half way doesn't mean anything and they still get paid for the time you've been with them .....

it doesn't tarnish any of their reputation since student that left isn't exactly attached to the uni to be judged... you can't just stop someone that realize they suddenly had interest to pursue in other fields..

@what do u mean by you did a first degree in one thing and switch to another field?

I've done my degree in management ... going for masters in management ..... uhm ... thats that not show how keen i am in my chosen course?? lecturers wont even remember u after a few weeks especialy the not so close ... how do they even qualify to judge?

ARE YOU REALY SURE???

http://www.monash.edu.au/study/internation...stgraduate.html

They give step by step instruction on the document u need doesn't state anythign about having to sent them references.....

Infact... most uni i saw doesnt have this Reference thing .... except for uni of nott .. so far...

i even went for the open day @ sunway... it seems pretty easy to enter if i got the relevant degree whistling.gif

Was just wondering, since the fees are so expensive and their requirement are so ridiculous (if its true) plus most people stop their education at undergraduate level. Cause my company research now have somewhat related to this subject matter.

So wanted to know how many students are there that would take up their masters program.

And BTW, the university does not offer full scholarship to students... even dean student are only given a certain percentage of discount.... its not a charity corporation u know...

and government funding does not tie down to UNMC alone... postgraduate for government sponsorship is rare and limited.

Just want to know, Are you a student or staff of UNMC? From your replies throughout the threads looks like you are part of the university student consultant/service/admin body staff. Or you are a diehard UNMC fan..

and if you are a student of UMNC... may i know how old are you, what cours you are taking and what year/semester are you in. Just curious about this since you are so particularly active about the university.

hi! he is just a student. im unclear about what year and what sem or age is he in but im sure he is here to help. he is just assisting us with problems regarding unmc or enquiries that he can answer. answering people's question and you call him a die hard fan of unmc?  doh.gif  doh.gif

2nd. if ur not pleased with the financial part of unmc then why bother asking soo much? why not go to the office and express your frustration on our uni?
*
You've got to admit, an average student dont realy provide guidance with such confidence and knowledge about the university. Also he is relatively protective of the university image and with much good word of mouth. Its great that he like his university that much, thats why im saying he is such a die hard fan of the university.

Im not saying that im not pleased with the financial or fees of UMNC. Its a private university, its perfectly reasonable. Like i said, im doing a market research that is related to postgraduate for my company. I am not frustrated on anything, but just trying to understand about postgraduates in private universities.

I hope im not offending anyone, as im fearful of such loyal student that would take what i've said in the wrong way.

normally average students do this. maybe your average level is a lil too low.

lets just push the sarcasm and all aside and talk bout stuff concerning what u asked.

1.we chose this uni. tats y we like it. its like you chose your phone and u like it. if not why did you choose it? right?

2. fees of unmc is high and no full scholarship. i guess thats how it is. i got good results and would have got a full waiver in taylors or inti. i questioned it but well, obviously they will say some crap and pull you off topic. they did say we have to apply for sponsors like dell or MPOB.

3. i think our fees are slightly more than other private institutions tho. not sure why. our rep? our facilities? or maybe our lecturers? not sure at all man. but for now all my lecturers are good and not slacking with their job. but i came here more because of the rep that will boost employability.
hope tat helped. smile.gif
*
Oh, good for you on being an average student.

And what you said did not helped.

Im not interested in the fees or how you obtain methods to pay your fee or why you chose the uni.

Im surveying and wants to know how many students are there taking up masters program in UNMC since by statistic, the numbers of masters student is definately much lower than undergraduates. Hence, plus the high cost yet demanding requirement, i would like to know how many of the student actualy willing to take up masters in private university.

Edit: i was wondering why every reply seems like an image advertisement shocking.gif. I was just asking how many masters student in UNMC and i got dragged in to a pool of praises and advertisement for the university. No offence though just voicing my opinion.

As far as I know that's the only publicly accessible info with regards to admission statistics.

Should you require more info, kindly establish contact with the university.

If you're a genuine surveyor then I must say you have been doing a very bad job. Because not only you did not get the information by phrasing your words in the right way, you intimated your only source of information where you're able to get normative opinions from, the LYN. Let me quote again what you've posted:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The second paragraph was completely unprofessional. You acted in a way which you shouldn't be, given the fact that you're representing for a company - as so you said. You're clearly haven't had any ideas how to "survey", have you? Really, you do not, DO NOT, influence the input you have before letting the person to answer your questionnaires. For instance, you do not tell a person, "I think people who study for an undergrad is wasting their time" by asking the undergrads if they enjoyed their time in University. With the former remark, tell me how is it going to influence latter question? I'll let you see into it.

To sum up, if you are really doing a "market research" for your company - and I do not believe you - I would recommend your company to find another able man to do the surveys. Because clearly you are doing an awful job with the task given.

Next, to your questions on "expensive" and "ridiculously high requirement". If you have done your homework, you'd know that, typically, business courses in graduate level is extremely expensive and competitive, especially MSc Finance. If you have done your homework, you would know that 2:1 is pretty standard in most capable research universities and Nottingham, being a listed Russell Group (google it big boy), is only of the many. Thhus, quality graduate students are of paramount in securing research grants. Public universities in Malaysia, as being public as they were, charge significantly lower because (1) they're heavily funded by taxpayers money and (2) their research quality, as a whole, and in my opinion as an economics student, is below sub-par.

To your question of "diehard fans". I don't see, as a company surveyor, you did not expect this. This university is probably, for most of us, our Alma mater. Despite we complain how shitty the teachings are, how inferior the facilities on campus are, and how inefficient the administrators on campus are, we hold, at least to some extent, a sense of pride. Because really, most of us spend three years and more on this campus, it should not come as a surprise that most of us have attached some sense of patriotism. You may hate Malaysian government, but you would obviously cheer for Malaysia during the Olympic. It is not our problem that you cannot get the "true" view from us, and being a hired surveyor as you were, you should have anticipated this and adjust your finding accordingly. This view certainly does not get any "truer" when you blatantly slashed some of us in a distasteful manner.

Thus, take my recommendation, learn some form of research methodology before you decided to jeopardize the findings you have and before you waste your company resources. But personally, I do not believe you. You sound like some sort of bitter sub-par students who could not get funding from the public sectors for your postgraduate study, and did not have enough qualification to join Nottingham. That's my view anyway. Cheers

Matthew

u ok bro? dont need to write a long essay for me just to lecture me because of your unorthodox behavior. I dont need this kind of crap from you.

FYI i stop reading after the 1st paragraph. And please do not reply to me again, i dont want to see notification to this thread just because of some fool that is unsatisfied with how i convey my messages.

I dont mean to offend you but, i dont need YOU on the internet to tell me what to do.

I got my answer already and i wish not to disturb the peace in this thread. thank you.

That was hardly unorthodox, if anything, it's perfectly normative. Truth be told, I did not expect people who complaint about 2:1 requirement to read or even understand this 'essay' (really, you'd call this an essay :s). I'm merely trying to voice my opinion...on the fact you're hired to do an awful job is beyond me  blink.gif thumbup.gif ... and it's the internet, you get to choose not to take a crap from me.. and I get to response to posts any way I want ... icon_idea.gif
*
Well at least i got a proper job, dont know about you though.... maybe still an undergraduate... whistling.gif

I work for Ubisoft Singapore, stationed in Malaysia graphic and designing studio and currently working with Nielsen on research. I earn SGD2.8k ... able to pay for my own brand new honda city and my own apartment here in Malaysia at the age of 26.

My main job is not to do research but designing, just so happens that this project is related to research. I love my job and i dont need "you" to tell me that my job sucks.

I felt that i got paid well and am doing much better than fresh graduates here in Malaysia..

So if by saying "i'm hired to do an awful job", i do like to know what's your future job is like or what you currently work as if you are graduated whistling.gif

I did not "complain", if complain can be done by adding just 1 word "ridiculous" to a point...maybe you need to take up comprehension lessons... im just saying. whistling.gif

Let me give you an example of what complain meant... "read your 1st reply to me" ... yea that is what you call "complain" .... or should i say "B*TCH, MOAN and COMPLAIN"

It's not an opinion, it's a mockery and criticism. Either you dint know what you have written or you dont know the meaning of the word "opinion".

And if "merely" means 6 Paragraph long, i hate to see your real intention.

I did not take crap from you, that's why i did not argue or even read on your points that you have written after the 1st paragraph. whistling.gif

You cant just let it go can you? You had to reply to me... alright then if i'll play along with your game.

Sigh, didn't even want to reply you, but then again, it's Sunday anyway.. I have time to spare
Then dont, as i already mentioned i don't want to come back to this thread just because of some fool telling me how to do my job.

Reply to (1)
LOL really, this is what you've come to? Retort someone's constructed argument with, "at least I have a job?" *Slow claps* I don't even want to get to this but don't you think it's extremely inappropriate to compare with someone six years before you?
Oh, a 19 year old telling me how to do my job. I suggest you keep your mouth shut, get your degree and get some working experiance before giving someone advice on how to do their job. You have no credibility yet trying to argue like you had one. Pitty

I know you're bitter, especially after someone pointed out your faults. But, really, having to argue with that premise is awfully childish.
Uhm, the only one who "acted" like he/she pointed my faults is a guy who had no rights to do so to begin with. I had my answers and i left the thread for almost 3 days till you came in and "B*tch, Moan and Complain" for what i dont even know. Who's the childish one now?

If you really want to know, which I don't think you do, I see the University more in its traditional light, a place of knowledge, not a sorting-hat that decides your fate in the future. To top with that, I have had avoided every possible way to intern with corporate, and found myself constantly in a think tank.

traditional light? You've just made shit up i can tell. Please refrain from making your own words and expect people to understand. What you've said generaly made no sense, sorting-hat that decides your future? Maybe you are the only fool that choose your courses blindly, im not here to judge you but i think "most people" decides their courses based on what they think it's best for their future and career. You dont see engineer graduates become lawyers do you?

And with that fond of knowledge, you really think I'd be interested in what you're earning, your loaned car, and your mortgaged house?
You bashed and made a mockery about my "aweful" job, so im just enlightening you on my "aweful" job. I don't get what are you trying to covey here.

Secondly - I have to point this out - I was, in fact, questioning your ability to survey and none others, but now I'm questioning your ability to read, think and write critically as well. Nevertheless, for the fact you aren't required to utilize the latter skills in your designing job, you're dully excused.
First of, it's a forum NOT a formal meeting. Do you expect a formal letter on a small discussion? My ability to survey, uhm can i ask what rights do you have to say such thing? Are you AC Nielsen or my company manager? And what about my ability to read, think and write? Please do point out my flaws instead of just bashing like a immature kid that likes to insult without reasoning just for the sake of it. And wow, i am "dully excused".... excused by you.... and may i ask who are you and what rights do you have to act like you are my "boss"?

But I do hope your creativity, something which I don't have, brings you further from here.
my creativity brings me further from here? What the HELL are you trying to say? Im not judging you without reason but im retorting based on what i quoted here and above, are you having problem conveying in english? Cause what you've said made no sense, and as i quoted above you made words up that does not make any sense.

Lastly, to your question of "what I want to be in the future" (and I have no graduated, you'd have find this information had you read an 'essay' which doesn't even take you more than 3min), most of my peers are either into investment banking or to contribute into the country's economy's engine. I, with the passion of knowledge, probably going to be in the university, teaching my students how to at least read and think critically on top of what they're supposed to.
And your final sentence indicate you want to be a lecturer, business division lecturer i assumed. Good for you, you now understood what course you are taking and know what you want to be in your future career. So you basicly just contradicted yourself from the first paragraph till your conclusion. notworthy.gif

Clearly shows that you are not thinking critically when you are replying to me, hope you improved yourself by the time you got your Masters and know how to respond to a matter rationaly instead of showing your narcissistic attitude that you could do other's people job when you aren't even qualified.

I dint bother to read the 2nd part of your reply because theres no point in this argument since there nothing to prove in the first place except proving that you got nothing better to do than to start a senseless argument.

Edit:- yes you are that DUMB, because there was no message directed to you and everything was settled but you HAD to come in and made a whole lot of senseless noice. Whose the troll now?
