Hello! I applied for Chemical Engineering this September and currently waiting for my conditional offer letter after submitting my acceptance form which has yet to be sent to me and 2 weeks has passed... Anybody currently taking this course? Would like to know about the lecture/class system. In college, I've been using the tablet to write my notes during lectures and to keep e-textbooks. So I'm just wondering if this applies to UNMC too? Is buying textbooks compulsory or I can borrow from the library? I know I sound lazy and cheap but just wondering..... Thanks.

Hi! I am currently taking the course so maybe I can give some opinion to you. You need to wait a long period for your offer letter since they need long time to progress. Haha. OK back to the topic. From I know, The lecturer in year 1 is nice. You will be arranged into a large lecture hall and having class with all your course mates. The notes usually will be provided by lecturer in class but sometimes they will ask you to print out from Student Intranet. Some lecturers like to leave some blank there and let you to fill in it ( To force student pay attention in his/ her class! ). Usually lecturers will put all lecture notes on U drive but some do not. They hope student can attend all lecture and get their own notes by themselves. sweat.gif

You can bring anything you want into the lecture hall. I think e-textbooks shouldn't be a problem? I didn't buy the textbooks too last year. I don't think buying them is compulsory and YES you can find what you need in the library. But the books always are borrowed by someone.  doh.gif  I am lazy and cheap too! tongue.gif

No worries. smile.gif
I see! ok! Guess I can save alot from textbooks ~ rclxm9.gif
One more, when do I apply for accommodation? Before or after the letter arrives? I'm kinda lost right now unsure.gif

Nice to meet you too! I am a year 2 student in next sem. Hehe. The lecturers are nice in year one so you don't need to worry about that ( If they do not change the lecturer ). tongue.gif

For on-campus accommodation, uni admission office will send you the accommodation form after you secured your place. Fill in the form and fax ( or mail? ) back to them. After that just wait for the news! smile.gif Btw, sometimes you cannot get your first choice room due to too much application.

For off-campus, you can find your own room outside. There are a lot of rooms available in TTS, BSS and Taman Pelangi. You can also refer some classified in Lowyat here! Usually the price of off-campus will be lower than on-campus. tongue.gif

i see....will check out off campus as well since i'm trying to save as much as possible....
besides that, how are the pc labs? cause i do not have a laptop so i'm hoping that i can rely on their computers for assignments/projects in the future blink.gif

If you intend to do PhD, you should start talking to lecturers about potential projects. If you are a First Class candidate, you can start PhD just after your BEng, saving you time and money. Talk to some of the lecturers where their research interest maps yours, if he/she shows interest to take you in next year, then you can take BEng - graduate fast and start PhD fast.

Nevertheless, if research is the route you want, an MSc will be a better qualification than MEng as MSc requires you to complete a 60 credits thesis.
Get a laptop if possible. PCs in TISCRA have renowned reputations of giving blue screen during the most exciting time and auto recovery could fail. Strictly limit your usage of PCs in TISCRA for printing and 9gag purposes only.

Qualification and money. If you are a local student, you'll need STPM or matriculation to get into public universities - A-Level can't bring you there! If you are an international student, qualification will not be a limitation for you in picking universities.

Regardless of you are local or international, if you think you are rich, Nottingham! If you are constrained financially, need PTPTN for your studies, then if you still can go public universities and can get the course you want to, public universities could worth your consideration.

Maybe you want to tell us more about your situation?

I think it's worth investing on a good printer, make it portable and always stand-by in TISCRA around 1:30pm (for business school assignment) and 4:00pm (for engineering assignment) and charge 30 cent per BW paper. Should be able to turn over rather quickly.

so its a reckon to have you own laptop/tab/workstation as well as a personal printer to avoid assignment tragedies......if i do that in the future.......WOW!

Finally got the email containing my offer letter! rclxm9.gif ..(seems that the email got lost in between cause I was supposed to get it last month ><)
anyways would like to ask cause I find my conditions a little strange... what does 'Subject to receipt of a satisfactory academic reference' mean?
It can't be the reference letter from my lecturer right? Cause she emailed it to them together with my forecast 2 months ago??? blink.gif

I think 'Subject to receipt of a satisfactory academic reference' means your actual A-level result. The offer letter can only change to unconditional if your result reach the course entry requirement.  You need to bring your result too when you register to become an UNMC students.

the conditions state
1) B B B
2) the context mentioned

so does does that mean both conditions are related?

Contemplating on which room to book first for first year....

1) Four Shared Bathroom (cheapest)
2) Double Decker Shared Ensuite bathroom (2nd cheapest)

any thoughts on which is better? blink.gif

oh and how self-cooking is done in the hostel? can't imagine myself with take-outs and instant noodles throughout my stay there rclxub.gif (and yes i take my meals very seriously...)
but im pretty sure there is at least a refrigerator or something right? OO

(omg why am i thinking about all this when im suppose to be worrying whether my results meets the requirements?)
doh.gif

oh well....penny for your thoughts pls~

You need to find out about the possibility of getting the 1k back. If there is no way to get that back, no point you do anything. You dance Gangnam Style in front of the admission office also won't get a single penny!

the thing is..i have no idea who is the admission tutor...the chemical engineering department didn't actually specify since the list of professors are long...all i know is for further info pls contac Gan SuYin.... blink.gif
planning to ask admissions office

I see. Then probably Dr Gan is the admission tutor. Just email her and explain your situation to her. But this is dtk88 or flourite93?
*
eh? sorry!!! used the wrong account!haha its flourite93 btw....created dtk88 for my lazy friend...haha end up forgetting to log out before continuing my own posting doh.gif (lesson of the day : never use the same browser) LOL!guess this answers my notifications not showing in my email doh.gif
anyhow : the question posted earlier was mine! (flourite93!!!!) forget dtk88!!!!

haha as i was saying.....so its best to email her abt it then?
just afraid that i asked the wrong party ><
but will it be okay if i ask the admissions first cause i'm calling the office tomorrow since its already friday and there is no news regarding my application status cry.gif
i kinda hate it when my future is on the line and i know nothing about it yet.....
one thing for sure...the office will definitely remember me cause i've been sending countless emails and calls to them....so hopefully no grudges against me sad.gif

If you are sure you can claim back the 1k shall they reject you, then no point getting in touch with admission office? Decision is on the admission tutor, in this case, we assume is Dr Gan.

Okay then...will email her abt this matter...till then will post an update about it... unsure.gif
