I wana ask something regarding the application for degree programme in engineering.
Now i just finished my a-levels exam and are waiting for the results.
When should i apply?Should i apply now with my forecast? or wait for the actual results then only apply?
*
You are advised to apply by using your forecast result. Nottingham admission office will give you a conditional offer letter. After you getting your actual A-level result, you should submit it to the officer/ agent to issue an unconditional offer. If your result fulfill the requirement, there should be no problem for you to enter that course. smile.gif

Hey.
I just registered for the engineering foundation programme (the July intake). Im wondering how are the lecturers like.

On a lighter note, does anyone here go swimming? biggrin.gif
*
I didn't take foundation programme in Nottingham so I cannot comment on that. Btw, I go for swimming every week in the sport complex. For me, swimming is a way to relax stress after having one week of lecture. smile.gif

YES! Uni provide swimming lessons for student but I am not sure is this same in summer break. You can go for enquiry center of sport complex for further information after your arrival.

is there no MRT or other public transport? :/ since parents have an apartment there so would be easier for me to stay there instead of renting another room...
*
It's not practical too. No LRT here and there is only KTM in Kajang. There is uni shuttle bus can fetch you from KTM to the campus but it needs about 40 minutes. Then how long time you need for Damansara to Kajang? doh.gif

So we suggest you apply on campus accommodation or find a nice room in TTS area! biggrin.gif

gonna apply for Foundation In Science after spm..
*
No need. The room is yours after you paying the fees. You can stay in the room anytime unless you didn't pay the rental fees.. sweat.gif

Hello! I applied for Chemical Engineering this September and currently waiting for my conditional offer letter after submitting my acceptance form which has yet to be sent to me and 2 weeks has passed... Anybody currently taking this course? Would like to know about the lecture/class system. In college, I've been using the tablet to write my notes during lectures and to keep e-textbooks. So I'm just wondering if this applies to UNMC too? Is buying textbooks compulsory or I can borrow from the library? I know I sound lazy and cheap but just wondering..... Thanks.
*
Hi! I am currently taking the course so maybe I can give some opinion to you. You need to wait a long period for your offer letter since they need long time to progress. Haha. OK back to the topic. From I know, The lecturer in year 1 is nice. You will be arranged into a large lecture hall and having class with all your course mates. The notes usually will be provided by lecturer in class but sometimes they will ask you to print out from Student Intranet. Some lecturers like to leave some blank there and let you to fill in it ( To force student pay attention in his/ her class! ). Usually lecturers will put all lecture notes on U drive but some do not. They hope student can attend all lecture and get their own notes by themselves. sweat.gif

You can bring anything you want into the lecture hall. I think e-textbooks shouldn't be a problem? I didn't buy the textbooks too last year. I don't think buying them is compulsory and YES you can find what you need in the library. But the books always are borrowed by someone. doh.gif I am lazy and cheap too! tongue.gif

No worries. smile.gif

One more, when do I apply for accommodation? Before or after the letter arrives? I'm kinda lost right now  unsure.gif
*
For on-campus accommodation, uni admission office will send you the accommodation form after you secured your place. Fill in the form and fax ( or mail? ) back to them. After that just wait for the news! smile.gif Btw, sometimes you cannot get your first choice room due to too much application.

For off-campus, you can find your own room outside. There are a lot of rooms available in TTS, BSS and Taman Pelangi. You can also refer some classified in Lowyat here! Usually the price of off-campus will be lower than on-campus. tongue.gif

I'm still waiting for offer letter as well lol. Even if they reject my application, i hope they would notify me so I don't have to wait anxiously lol. I'm applying for Chem. Eng with Env and 2nd choice is Chem. Eng
*
The department head will send you a mail directly to your personal mail box if they reject your application. But I hope you will not get it. Haha. UNMC combined Chem Eng and Chem with Env Eng in year 1. It means that the module in year 1 in both courses is same. Besides that the entry requirement of both courses are exactly same. You need to decide which course you take in year 1 but you can change it after that with strong reason support. smile.gif

i see....will check out off campus as well since i'm trying to save as much as possible....
besides that, how are the pc labs? cause i do not have a laptop so i'm hoping that i can rely on their computers for assignments/projects in the future  blink.gif
*
PC labs are called TCR in UNMC. There are 3 TCR in campus. Computers there is enough support for assignments and projects. TCR1 is open for 24 hours so you do not need to worry. Btw, some computers are out of order and sometimes keep lagging. doh.gif It's better you save your work frequently to avoid any tragedy. sweat.gif

I have sent a PM to you about off-campus accommodation, please have a look! smile.gif

anyone here know how to sign up for the free hostel internet?
*
From what I know, it's free for on-campus hostel internet ( 128KB/s ) and you do not need to sign up. You only need to do so if you do not satisfy with the speed of free internet and upgrade it. For sure, you have to pay for it. tongue.gif

I find this statement deeply deceiving... There's never enough computer to support assignments and projects as they are always used to play Tetris.

A word of advice, always get things done early.. There was this girl, her assignment was considered late (~30mins) cause she couldn't find a computer to print it out. She was making a rather dramatic scene at the office... lol
*
Haha. I didn't face this problem yet but you're right. Many students using the computer for Tetris. sweat.gif

I think I am so lucky as I hand in my assignment on time at last moment. It is not because of insufficient computers. After I clicked the "Print" button, it jammed for 20+ minutes. doh.gif

true. all printers will start jamming and unable to print during the peak hour(hour before assignments deadline)
*
I was one of the victim in these cases. I stood in front of the printer for half hour to just remove the jammed paper. General engineering practical in campus. doh.gif

just wondering..
What is the timetable like for chemical engineering students? What i meant is the time like if if classes start early in the morning or something, how many per day, duration......oo
*
See you again here! tongue.gif

From my experience, Chem Eng will start the class at 9am everyday ( Monday - Friday ). Usually end at 1pm. However sometimes the lecture will be fall into afternoon. How many per day? 2 to 3 modules a day usually. 1 or 2 hours per lecture. I don't think Chem Eng timetable will be too free! sweat.gif

Finally got the email containing my offer letter!  rclxm9.gif ..(seems that the email got lost in between cause I was supposed to get it last month ><)
anyways would like to ask cause I find my conditions a little strange... what does 'Subject to receipt of a satisfactory academic reference' mean?
It can't be the reference letter from my lecturer right? Cause she emailed it to them together with my forecast 2 months ago???  blink.gif
*
I think 'Subject to receipt of a satisfactory academic reference' means your actual A-level result. The offer letter can only change to unconditional if your result reach the course entry requirement. You need to bring your result too when you register to become an UNMC students.

the conditions state
1) B B B
2) the context mentioned

so does does that mean both conditions are related?

Erm, like what jinjack said, it's better you confirm with them. By the ways, congratulations for getting the offer letter! tongue.gif
