QUOTE(PreciousPearl @ Aug 8 2012, 06:38 PM) Of course not!!! that was not even one among my choices. First choice was the Single ensuite bathroom with AC which I did not get even though I have sent an email to the accommodation department requesting them for that room 1 month ago. They told me not to worry they would consider my request but clearly that's not the case!!!! You said your application was sent a month ago Should I send them another email for a change of room?? they dont seem to be quite friendly these people! |

QUOTE(needtoundo @ Aug 10 2012, 09:55 PM) Hi manthew, I'm interested in the course you are taking, hope that you can help me out here In one year you have to take 120 worth of credits (like any other courses I think) including compulsory subjects. Dividing two semester you have 60 (although, for econs, it's either 55+65 or 65+55. Because we have two 15 credits modules). For Econ students, usually how many hours of teaching (lecture & tutorial) are there in a week? Is the schedule hectic? Also, how the lecturers teach students? Do they usually provide all notes, setting exam questions based on them? Or is it that few notes will be provided so that students learn from various sources? The hours of teaching go as followed: 20 credits worth (compulsory: Intro to Micro & Intro to Macro) - 3hours of lectures and 1hour of tutorial 15 credits worth (compulsory: QE I & QE II) - 2hours of teaching and 1(or 2) hours of tutorial 10 credits worth (most likely optional modules) - 1 (or 2) hour of teaching and 1 hour of tutorial (some may have seminars) To see the timetable for the coming Autumn of 2015 class. (Your timetable if you're enrolling) Try this link http://uiwdbsci01.nottingham.ac.uk:8008/re...ht=100&week=100 This timetable only shows your modules in School of Economics (SoE). Any other modules taken outside the school isn't shown here. To see how modules selection and your possible optional module try these links: http://programmespec.nottingham.ac.uk/mala...&year_id=000112 http://modulecatalogue.nottingham.ac.uk/ma...main_search.asp (You are likely to be able to take some optional modules from School of Politics, History and Intl' Relation (PHIR) and Business School (NUBS) -- provided there's no clash on syllabus, eg. Econometrics etc -- on top of School of Economics optionals) Hectic? Wait til you see MY timetable.. (I know some engineering students have something to say.. shh you). Notes are provided. However, I can't comment how good these notes are as I'm more comfortable with my own notes. You'll be given a module description in your first class and it will state which week what the lecture will cover. Try to study before lecture as some lecture can get really grumpy knowing you didn't read before coming to class. (mostly PHIR but SoE do have some of those) Reading source varies across modules. Some modules use a single textbook, some (like History 1789-1945, the reading list is as thick as my face..but you don't have to read all of them) use from different sources. Exams are set by your lecture, approved by the examination board in the UK.. marked by both your lecturer and examiner in the UK. Hope I answered your question. I should really charge Nottingham for providing such adequate services. I dare say I'm doing a better job than the "consultants" in Admin Building. QUOTE(needtoundo @ Aug 11 2012, 09:02 PM) wow thanks for your reply Economics examination are usually like essay question (though sometimes it requires some mathematical proving)... like all typical exam questions, it would not be completely taken out from the notes. Sometimes, it requires critical thinking. The question are relatively open-ended -- though some have straight answers. Some questions give you a freedom to input things you learnt from other modules on top of what you should already know. I've seen cases where studying only lecture notes would suffice for exam as all questions are set according to the notes, is this the case here? and how small is the class? are there international students? Depends who the lecturer is, really. A lecturer, which I will not name here, loves to give question that are totally unfamiliar yet relevant. At the end of the day, I think reading notes, provided you can remember all of them, can only bring you to a high 2(ii). Like I said, I'm never comfortable with lecturers' notes because (i) some of them are oversimplified (probably to force you to attend their classes) and (ii) some are inadequate. Besides, you're in university now, don't expect to be spoon-fed. p.s. "Notes" here refer to "power point slides". My class has 25 students. Half of them are international students. But I think your year has more. In year 2, you'll get exchange students from the UK campus (around 15 of them last year) which will further expand the class size. QUOTE(Muba @ Aug 18 2012, 06:10 PM) This club night thing sounds interesting.. People warned me that nottingham has no life as its in the middle of the jungle, however if stuff like this is organized it might be fun "stuffs" like this happen only once in a bluemoon (3-4months..) so yeah.. the myth is not completely untrue |

QUOTE(Muba @ Aug 19 2012, 01:42 AM) Well I will just have to get involved in lots of societies and sports I guess. ThisI was curious about what sort of dress code there is at Nottingham? If there's no official one, if someone could tell me what most students wear to class that'd be great.. Need to start shopping ![]() This post has been edited by manthew: Aug 19 2012, 05:39 PM |

QUOTE(mandarinoriental @ Aug 19 2012, 06:02 PM) Is anyone here taking BA Finance, Accounting & Management? Cannot decide between that or BSc Economics The two courses are different in many ways. FAM is more like a niche programme (niche in economical sense) to cater the needs of the corporate world and Econs is more like a traditional university course. the former is a business course and the latter is more like a study of social science under sacred resources. The two are offered by separate department. It's quite apparent that they have way more differences than similarities. You'd be able to make a clear choice had you think through what you really want to do.Important note: As mentioned in my post few pages back. Econs students can take the core subjects from the Business Schools as optional module. Meaning you'd be able to do Econs and still allowed to study one of the F,A, and M if you wish. Not quite so for the reverse. Now, go some more research and apply fast. Good luck. QUOTE(oceanic93 @ Sep 17 2012, 05:35 PM) About the compulsory subject, I have the official transcript from my college. However, I am unable to certify it because I am so far away from Sunway College plus I don't have a car. Yupe Is it alright for me to hand in a photocopy of my official transcript without certifying them and show them the original transcript at the same time? |
