so is the p6 doable? I heard that since this new examiner took over

the difficulty level has dropped and pass rates improved
*
doable, ms yong's questions are quite practical
unlike old examiner, asking Mining expediture which is a bit obsolete

i choose Q4 n 5...what about u? i didnt even read Q3 tongue.gif

Q1 cash distribution and the Q2 alternatives to consider to acquire new company....a bit shaky. not sure if it is right or not. i just know i have to write and write...dun care much

Q2 group relief part is still ok...as long as u remember the condition. it is still doable.

sigh!~~ i dunno...i just want 50.0000000  brows.gif

same! i did Q4 and Q5 also, Q3 too long to read laugh.gif

doh.gif  poor guy.  ya, my senior says optionals are insane.  btw, how did you do for P1?  I can't seem to score enough marks. It's like writing a lot but then marks allocation is little
*
u have to write according to the "verbs" used by examiner
and because of the "verbs", marks allocation is different

so u must look at the "verbs", then decide how many points to write
if u know nothing about the verbs and marks allocation, u will either over-write or under-write.

eg:
identify is usually half mark

criticism is usually 2 marks, but must criticize well, telling what is the wrong behaviour and why is it wrong + implication.

define is usually 2 marks, the 2 marks is not one sentence, one sentence to define + another sentence to give example.

look at the P1 past year papers marking scheme and u will know how much u should write

I don't like Section A, not very confident for Q2 the report part. Q4 was slam dunk , Q5 doable but not too easy also
*
lol, that's mean no one here tried Q3?

i did badly for my Section A sweat.gif

Hi guys, since this is my first time taking this paper for P1 tomorrow I would like to ask those who have taken this paper to comment on the usefulness of mock exam papers issued by those leading publishers.
Are they really beneficial as opposed to rely merely on past year paper revisions?
*
have u read the article written by David Campbell about independence?
it's very important as examiner wrote the article for exam candidates to read.

it's good to practise the mock exam as long as it's relevant to the recent exam.

Guys,

Thx so much for the sharing.
As for notmycupoftea's comment, I actually read the article about independence especially for NEDs but one thing strikes me is that there is a point in the article whereby it was stated that NEDs are disallowed to own company share options that they are involved with and when I was going through one of the mock exam paper for Kaplan Dec '11, there was a question about Quasi Holdings and it was stated that "all directors were required to have shares of the company" and there was a question requiring an evaluation of the corporate governance being implemented within the company and the model answer did not pick up on it.....weird rclxub.gif
Anyhow I am prepared to bring in my calculator just in case there is any simple calculations needed, even though so far up till June '11 paper there's no calculation needed....
*
share options ≠ shares

share options is a reward- right to exercise a share price on a certain date in future, if a NED is allowed to have share options, when the option gonna vest soon but the market value currently is not favourable to the NED, and the NED is greedy enough, he might do something to increase the share price in short term to benefit himself (so that the market value of the shares is higher than the exercise price, to get a profit from there)

while all directors are encouraged/required to have shares (long term) in the company, is to make the director to have a direct linkage with corporate performance. the moment tat company performs badly, the directors can feel the pain.

sometimes NEDs' remuneration could be partial shares, one of the reasons is above. also, less cash outflows by giving shares.

Can anyone help me in choosing lecturer for P2?

Between Spencer and Joe Fang.

I heard from my friend if you are not used to Joe Fang method, you can't cope with him for P2. You will be confused.

Spencer, I don't know anyone who take his class. but heard people say he is good.

cannot afford menon's service. too expensive

and then how to decide optional paper, which one to take?

I want to take P7  but cannot decide between P4 and P5. can help me how to decide?

please help and reply soon. Thank you in advance.
*
even i'm Joe Fang F7 student, when i go for his P2 class, i was still confused for certain IAS, hahaha
the way Joe Fang teaches theory, ok ok...but only during revision class
normal classes when he teaches theory, very hard to absorb, i don't know was it my problem or what hmm.gif

i chose Joe Fang for my P2 coz i nvr learn other conso method b4, i really scare i can't follow other lecturer's conso method.
but after taking P2 exam, i realized, theory part is really important. if u follow a lecturer who can teach theory very well, conso ok ok, this is more than enough already.

focus heavily on calculations

start of the class will revise a lil bit on f7 .. quite fast thou

usually after results release only will start conso part if im not mistaken...

occasionally only will discuss about optional questions of Section B

standards usually summarised by chart or diagram

and some unpopular and small topics will be left out
*
wah....macam Joe Fang betul betul! Joe Fang pun macam itu punya LOL
During normal class, Joe Fang will explain the IAS, then writing all the content of the IAS, we will copy few pages for every standard.

then when teaching certain standards, Joe Fang will draw aeroplane and oil rig for IAS 16, for IAS 39 he will draw a car and etc laugh.gif
in revision class, he will give all the summary of IAS (including small and not popular IAS)

hey, i am taking f6,f8 and f9 next sitting and i plan to work full time in an accounting firm and study for those papers part time.
Is it possible for me to make it? and is it advisable to do so?
*
too heavy already especially F8 and F9 require a lot of commitment to study, not recommended to take 3 ACCA papers while working full time.

p1 : Sheila (elite Jaya) , Parminder (KSA)
P3 : Parminder ( KSA ), any others?? in KL

both these lecturers are good especially Sheila, she will guide u all the way.
for Dr Parmindar, just be mindful about exam techniques, u have to develop ur own exam techniques, do more PYQ.
