the power vr 530?im not hoping it can do brilliant graphical job.720p is the maximum limitation for it.i wonder it can run rmvb smoothly o not.N8(all symbian) is a nightmare for me coz rmvb not supported.swipe ui will not using in symbian belle(referring to the nokia official symbian belle website).
*

Well, should I guess. I can play all the TVB shows on my E6, all of them rmvb format. But I convert them 1st, or rather the software in the device will auto convert. N9 supposed to be more advanced than E6, right?

N900 with mplayer and codecs, it's like your PC with Mplayer and codecs. It can play many different file types including rmvb without any conversion; The only problem is not able to play smoothly, and it also depend on the compression for rmvb, for TVB shows, I have to use frameskip, but it's "watchable", well, at least there's no need to convert convert.
N9 should perform much better in this case.
*
I tried without conversion, not smooth, maybe same prob you encounter. Since I'm copying them from my PC anyway, convert to wmv or mkv 1st, then copy over, can play smoothly. E6 is play like 22 fps, the original files are 25 fps, so, prob if play RMVB or HD files in original format. Visual still as good as original after conversion, using free to download software.

I'm used to all this converting business, laugh.gif I'm not tech savy also can do, so, it's not that complicated. Just suggesting, in case this nicholas guy wanna try

Converting isn't exactly slow these days especially if you're reducing it to such low resolution. Takes only minutes to finish conversion. I'm already appreciating very much the fact that N900 can play many types of video format, which greatly reduces my video conversion time since most movies downloaded are in AVI format if it's non-HD. smile.gif
*
You mean you old phone couldnt play avi? Maybe E6 & N900 have similar video functions, E6 can play avi, wmv, mkv, Xvid, whatever WMP can play, most of the English series/movies are in this format.
E6 have the real player in the device actually, but still not 100% smooth. As far as I'm concerned, if cannot watch it smoothly, might as well watch on my desktop. If I want to watch it smooth on the hand phone, make it in the format it can run smooth, lol. Yeah, less than 5 min to convert & copy a 45 min video.

Anyway, in answer to the nicholas guy, E6 is Symbian Anna also can, so, N9, should be no problemo

You might get it at this price if you sign a contract.
*
Or if buying it next year, 2012 tongue.gif . RM1,700 is reasonable for the 16GB, will still be cheaper than Iphone 4 & 5. Iphone 5 at least also RM2,300

The price in UK & Europe is more expensive. E6 was 380 Euros(RM1,600) but only RM1055 when released in Malaysia. Maybe cos the sets in Asia are Made in China.

It's stated to be 799 Australian Dollars, releasing in Aust in October. That's around RM2,500 but it didnt say whether it's the 16GB or 64 GB

If Nokia selling N9 for RM2.5K (no matter it's 16/64GB) it's better for Elop to take back all the N9 & play jenga with it.
Even Samsung SGS II which has the better hardware & higher cost selling for RM1.9K-RM2.1K
*
Dont think that would be the price for the 16GB, it's the pre order price in Aust, after taxes. Hardware, I wouldnt say Samsung is better, as in physical hardware. Dont think Samsung S2 or Iphone4 came with 64GB on board.

Eerr...
What do you mean by Samsung don't have better physical hardware?
Comparing Nokia & Samsung's highest end device,SGS II beat the crap out N9 in hardware section. Both using plastic case also(polycarbonate is still a plastic).
64GB NAND memory could be expensive but I doubt it'll make cost of N9 that much expensive.iPod Touch 4 have 64GB variant & the price of it still ok (for Apple's standard)

........

P/S:I'm not Samsung's fanboy sweat.gif
*
Yeah I know both plastic, Samsung S2 feel like cheap plastic(no offence if you have one)
Because Nokia can last, Samsung no, I want something that can tahan, not see2, then less than 2 years...spoil. I dont have good experience with all Samsung electronic products, including phone. If like that, better ask Panasonic come out with handphone then I buy, hahaha laugh.gif tongue.gif

AIOne89, I will not, durability issues. Same goes for HTC, cos it's Taiwanese brand, cannot tahan.

Dig up early N8 thread. You'll know how good Nokia's track record at that time.
*
I have owned Nokia phones for 20 years, never less than 5 years each set. I must be lucky then laugh.gif . My friend's E71, should be 3 years now, still going on strong. SE is another one that's ok on durability.

I'm saying the durability, at least it wont be one-drop-crack kind of built tongue.gif
and when compared with galaxy S+, kinda worth it la, like how the dude mentioned earlier O.o
*
Yeah, they all IT people, definition of hardware different from us average joes tongue.gif
I thought the 16GB would be RM1,900 cos the Spore price is SG799

Anybody knows if the 64GB also comes in magenta & cyan?

design,camera,os,specs everything are tremendously impressive.1 disadvantage,apps.
*
Yup, the camera, video, design was main attraction for me. Useful if they dont allow cameras in the stadium to watch sports, can say it's a phone.
Next, is editing documents & other work related stuff. Converters, offline dictionary are useful
Apps related to internet usage, not so. If one is not from the major cities & on the move, casual surfing & searching is all that's needed. Any heavy downloading/streaming will cause the quota to fill up fast, not to mention mobile internet speed sometimes like turtle.

Any idea about battery life? I know nobody has it long enough to test, maybe use N900 as comparision? Is the OS battery draining or as energy efficient as Symbian

N9 build wins hands down.
But that doesn't mean SGS II build quality is bad
Nope. The SGS II will be with be with me for a long time.I need a proper phone with me now.
I'll try to work on something to get my own N9.

This I cannot answer.Need a regular user to make feedback from daily usage.
But I think the battery should be better than N900.
*
Ah, good, good for 'rough' & rugged usage people like me. Hope ur green robot serve u well.
N900 could last a full 18 hr day? Sorry, I dont hv an N900 & not a tech geek.

Ok people, on the way home, I went to ask the Nokia authorised dealer(it's nearby).
Expected availability : 7th Oct.
Good news is there will be 3 colours available for 64 GB rclxms.gif , BUT they dont know which colour will arrive 1st. If 16GB, all 3 colours will have stock on 7 Oct
If purchasing under contract, only black will be available for 64 GB. That's what the salesman said, better you all go check at Digi, Celcom if want to be sure

I thought 16gb available in magenta and cyan only and black is 64gb? Now is 64 gb for all colours? Is there 16gb for black?
*
Original announcement was 16 GB=black, cyan, magenta. 64 GB=black only.
Now 64 GB have all 3 colours

With moderate 480p avi watching, music, 3g and wifi, then yes. I pernah tibai all of them from morning then start work with half battery and just keep a light usage while at work. Battery can still keep alive even at 0 for quite some time... on idle that is.

What I'm trying to say here is that if you use the N900 for basic needs a lot then it has a good life. Most of us N900 tards get only so much of battery life because... I bet several of us use it as if using our PCs or laptops sweat.gif
*
I bet some of you do. biggrin.gif My normal moderate usage 'only' something like 2 hours web surfing/emails, 2 hours 720 p video, 1 to 2 hours hour calls/sms with 3G on throughout. Symbian can go 2 days like that, no power saving also no problemo. All the heavy duty stuff, use PC, can see better, specs power increase already tongue.gif tongue.gif
So, in that case, N9 should be quite boleh in battery dept

I use 4 active wallpaper, max brightness, etc but... using E6, half screen only, hahaha. Considering all E series, it has less battery life already
