QUOTE(Upsilon @ Oct 3 2011, 10:25 AM) they did put on a huge bunting to promote n9 though Mr Elop wants it dead, but the staff & maybe Board of Directors dont want. it looks just plain weird to me, I understand this may be the only and last phone running Meego (yea, Meego is sort of dead now anyway and is transitioning to Tizen) and there will be no successor (Meltemi seems to be playing in a different league since it is rumoured to replace S40, but it should have Qt and Swipe UI too), so they may not be much promotion done to boost the sales. However Nokia themselves are pushing it real hard online, like they set up n9seconds, and even filmed a couple of ads, if this is deemed dead, why put in so much effort? Personally, I think this looks like a low key trial run of promo campaign for WP7. They test on N9 1st, if boleh, full force jalan for WP7. |

[quote=Andy214,Oct 3 2011, 10:32 AM]
... But I'd say these are not really effective as I believe they need to attract people/passer by through video advertisement. How many people pass by Nokia Centre per day, especially on weekends, and how many actually want to step in; Even those step in, they just see see look look, but may not want to touch the N9, even they touch, they may not fully understand, and may think it's just another Nokia Symbian phone? These ads/videos, will give them a clearer picture, and when they test, they roughly know how to use already. For most people I see, they don't even know how to unlock the screen. They just touch touch, press the volume button, cannot unlock, see see, then walk away. Maybe some Nokia Centre already have it, or maybe because it depends on the "dealer" since all these centres are actually authorised dealer (e.g. Hello Station), so it might depend on them whether to invest or they want Nokia to sponsor, etc. I don't know the details, but just sharing what I see/experience and thought would've work better. Added on October 3, 2011, 10:34 am I think not yet, cos not yet launch as in device not yet arrive. Wait product in stock, then we see. 700 & 701 had full page adverts when it launched, so far N9 only small paragraph in IT section. And yes, a lot of people still think it's another Symbian phone, successor to N8. |

QUOTE(KennyKB @ Oct 3 2011, 10:55 AM) It can't be a trial run or promo campaign for WP7. N9 is being denied for major markets where WP7 will be launched. These are markets with big populations like U.S., U.K., Germany, France and India. The reason is that Elop doesn't want N9 to compete with WP7 when it is launched. Even Symbian has been killed off in U.S. I meant they test out advert & marketing strategies, this is from advertising point. With N9 they are testing. If the campaign used is good, they will use the ideas for WP7 promo, on a bigger scale. Usually companies use more or less similar marketing campaign for their products. N9 is being positioned differently from the usual Symbian, so will WP7 me thinks... |

QUOTE(forgot_86 @ Oct 4 2011, 11:44 AM) Sigh, my colleagues are already poisoning my brain to take the new iphone and forget about N9. Hopefully the iphone is not TOO great. If not then will be difficult, cuz I think the price will almost be the same when it launch. Iphone 4 also above RM2,200 at launch, up to 32 GB. No 64 GB. So many restrictions some more, glass back cover, which is a no no for me. It's like made for those who everyday nicely sit in the office or home. Anyway, you want Iphone, next year also can buy mah, the latest one. N9 wouldnt have N9-01 or N10 liao, later we keep it in our private museum This post has been edited by eaglehelang: Oct 4 2011, 01:53 PM |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Oct 4 2011, 01:51 PM) Again back to basics: OPTIONS, not "excuses". It's not right to say nowadays it HTML5, so no need for Flash, or Flash is super high resource consumption and all those. Don't want to provide, just say don't want to provide, be honest and frank... but then, they can't, it's a business. It's also same like AUTO-FOCUS VS EDOF feature on camera. Saying EDOF is fast without providing Auto-Focus is "excuses"; You can switch to Sports mode which doesn't require focus or provide option to turn off auto-focus to get EDOF. But if you have EDOF only, you have no options. For those that don't want Flash, of course, they might not understand. But because of this, people doesn't care or push, manufacturer just drop it and say, "got people say no need mah!" If there is a CHOICE, N9 - Without Flash support N9i - everything same but with Flash Support I wonder which will people choose? Got is better than No. Anyway, about Flash support, I'm not sure if it can be implemented by browser alone? Because it doesn't seem so for N900/Maemo5, even with Chromium and Firefox, I don't see people talking about Flash10 available? No HD graphics? |

QUOTE(lordskarn @ Oct 4 2011, 06:59 PM) ...... Dont think it was Elop's plan for N9 to compete with the other high end phones, hence the limited units, limited countriesThe official RRP for Samsung Galaxy S2 has gone down from 2099 to 1899, plus the new Iphone announcement later today is going to make it more difficult for Nokia to compete if they don't price their products aggressively or market it as having more value for users.. ... |

QUOTE(KennyKB @ Oct 5 2011, 03:15 PM) N9 is not for the ios, Android crowd, it is for those who dare to be different...and those who dare to take the risk with their hard earned money! Only for the brave....or the foolish? having 2nd thoughts abt ur purchase?lol. I only consider it risky if the phone die(totally kaput) less than a year. Buy stock at share market lagi risky, 1 day can lose tens of thousands,hahahaha |

Rkg38,
I think what they are to say is all telco also will charge more if you dont have data plan. for prepaid, it's 10 cent per kb or something. when i dont use data plan, it will charge RM5 just for short time of usage. Maxis is known to charge more than Digi but coverage better. How abt this, you wait a few days till we get our N9, then test. Btw, Iphone charge how much more than ur E71& using which telco? |

QUOTE(Upsilon @ Oct 6 2011, 06:09 PM) not sure if you have seen @nokiamy's reply to my tweet, there's no free gift for N9 pre-order Try posting in Nokia Malaysia facebook. So far, you're the only one whom the dealer said no free gift. Should be standard with all authorised dealeryes, again, I am that @Jeffrey04 guy someone mentioned about in the last few post |

QUOTE(Upsilon @ Oct 7 2011, 01:36 PM) probably my 3rd time answering the same question I just called the dealer. only 16GB arrive today. 64GB one or 2 more days. Btw, its the biggest dealer in melaka, they have 3 branches. The salesman said freebie is bluetooth headset BUT maybe not BH 505.official and authorized dealer~~~ he said the phones will be arriving either today or tomorrow other phone shops won't be getting the phone this soon, probably 2nd batch or something Salesman said those listed as nokia store get priority -those in workshops list and ninja contest. Melaka one salesman said is 'nokia solution partner', one grade lower than nokia store. So, good stuff go to nokia store 1st, others later. But since you're in kl@anyway, hmmm, change? Buy something else from that shop with the $100 |
