No no no... that BFG is the FA Hyaku Shiki Kai rifle, which I refuse to buy the MG since they replaced it with the conventional Rezel rifle.

In Katoki's original design draft he mentioned that he gave the DP that BFG since there hasn't been a decision made yet regarding DP's official armaments. It didn't come with a shield either, although in the novel art it seems to be more angular which resembles the Delta Gundam's (not identical though) rather than the phallic version from the anime.

And your right in real life the angle of impact is more important. If hit head on eventually it'll break but if it were deflected the energy impact is not so severe and could withstand longer sustain fire. Modern tanks is best examples of these kind of armor.

Actually if there is an air gap in between 2 armor plates it provide even better protection. A fully rigid 4m thick armor is not as good as say 2 2m thick armor separated by a gap of air.

Again Seed and Destiny technology is very inconsistent, sometimes on screen action would contradict its technical specification. Dont really like to discuss the technical aspect of seed universe in general.
