I still think milling machine is a bit over lol.

BTW for me i think metal key cap is not hard to make either with milling(expensive) or mold(need mass production) the problem will be leg which connect to cherry MX switch.
I don't think any milling machine can do that only mold able to do such design.

If can i more somebody can come out with design of metal keycap plus PBT/ABS leg which i think is more easy to produce. All we need is one more step to glue them together.

And if really any factory can mass produce blank kepcap like i mention above all we need is a small machine to draw or craft any logo we want on the keycap like what shopping center stall have done on their keychain. Can even craft our own name >< haha

What u guy think abt my idea?
*
Same idea as I had months ago. That way will also cut the cost of metal used, LOL.

But I suggest if we can use other way(instead of glue) to stick both material together, it will be more awesome. Glue will have some thickness and kinda hard to fit them properly.

I suggesting that to make everything simple, we get a almost square shaped metal plate of around 3-4mm thickness as the top of keycaps and drill a shallow hole(1-2mm depth) to fit in plastic stems onto it. Kinda like the design of mushroom...
It should be quite cheap and easier to made yet doesn't lose too much classiness, LOL.

I'm thinking of selling my Majestouch AI 2 at this price when i got my Majestouch AI 1 back from taiwan, if the warranty goes through that's it.
*
LOL i suggest you start praying that they will gave you back a AI 1, not the new AI 2, LOLOL. brows.gif

If the main reason you prefer the AI 1 is due to the golden logo, then you should remove it and place on your AI 2(not sure if both using same mechanism).

Once saw in GH that some ppl mod painting his FILCO together with logo... sweat.gif Then poke out someone tell him that the logo is removable. whistling.gif

Cz the FILCO key puller itself is quite an expensive/luxury item. It will fetch at least RM20+.

with current industry standard as long as the surface is flat glue will not be very thick. Unless u say the type that UHU alike than i also reject ><
3mm-4mm is serious thick metal already which is hard to design or bend >< 0.7mm-1mm will be best material. A 0.1mm glue sure will not effect it ><
*
Why is thick a bad thing? The thicker, the more durable it should be.
My design will be alike this one. We no need to bend the piece of metal to make side. The top part is make of metal and no need for the side part. Drill a shallow hole to attach the plastic stem to it.
http://deskthority.net/download/file.php?id=224
If this design is too fugly, mod them into like the Deck DoubleShots(2piece) keycaps.
user posted image
It will then become a 3pieces design such that the side is plastic, mid/top is metal and stems is plastic.

Here is another good/poisoning design(substitute the transparent part with metal) but it will require a mold for the base of keycaps and lots work to shape the metal(thus may end up cost more than a pure metal keycaps... sweat.gif ).

Not really. Some O-ring type puller is smaller and make them completely not suitable to plug mech keycaps(worse if it is BL-keycap with coating).
Realforce also having it's own type if puller too.

myself work in industry that part of my product is steel material related. The cost of material different for 0.3mm is about 30% already. That why i recommend material that is more price friendly. And if really have such cap with 0.7mm or 1mm you can bend it with hand or finger so it is durable enough. Unless you try to hammer it.
*
The metal we suggesting here is aluminium as it is lighter and probably easier to shape. Also, if it the metal piece is too thin(imagine a can drink's can), it will feel very ''empty'' Also, i suggest it to be thicker so that we can make a hole and attach the stems to it.
''The cost of material different for 0.3mm is about 30% already.''? What you mean actually?
Lastly, do to note that we are not expecting the keycaps to be cost at just few RM. Probably will at least cost RM10+ depend on quality and works needed.

Doesn't for me unless you are the type of ppl that like high contrast color(apart from black and white).
I found myself cant accept green+red. But, I do think blue+yellow can be good though.

what i mean here is not case RM 10 vs RM 13, with such thickness different it might be RM 10 vs RM 30 already. For sure will not used like cola tin thickness la, that one odvious too tin >< (i believe aluminium will be cheaper but not sure abt it finishing since mostly aluminium we see are tin can/window used one only, haven't see other type finishing yet)

And if really design like u mention, the keycap will be over high already
user posted image

Let say cherry MX switch need 4mm to bottom up + your 4mm thick plate with hole 3mm deep hole so ur stem will be around 7mm minimum so the keycap might height around 10mm or more included side
Don't u think it is too high already.  Specially if key like ASDW
*
Even for a low profile keycaps, the height from top of switch stem to the top of keycaps already over 3mm, so I dont see what's wrong with 4mm(1mm extra)? For those high profile keycaps, row 1 and the ''f'' row, they are far higher.

I think you still dont get what i mean, may be later when free I use paint to draw you my idea(I dont have any CAD program with me now... rolleyes.gif )

BTW, the most common metal keycaps on the net(taobao(china), geekhack(america) and korea) are Aluminium keycaps, followed by Titanium. Each aluminium keycaps cost over RM50 b4 shipped but demand still high. As long as the quality are good(close) enough, we can sell them.

As we are not going to make the side of keycaps, we need certain thickness to make it look more quality and prevent our finger being cut by the sharp egde.

Here is my design. It is desinged base on low profile or universal profile keyboard. As the main target will be for FPS gamer which utilize WASD keys, increase the thickness of caps or height of stem to make them similar to normal R1/R2 keys.

i don't think much ppl like this design cause it look like this notebook key already ><
But well different ppl different taste.

What in my idea is the keycap should be metal made but look normal like regular one, the stem at below will be using other material like abs/pbt and etc to hold the cap. The stem can be in different color or transparent so the cap can be craft with more design the meet user need. Like i craft a see through green hornet on the cap than using transparent stem plus green LED.

I suggest the material is 1mm thick but i believe if hold by stem with proper design at below the material can go thinner like 0.5mm or 0.7mm so easier to craft more design on it.

too bad i bad in drawing >< even i know CAD.

BTW cyclone only ESC key? No WASD key?
*
Notebook key is good what? hmm.gif The problem with notebook keyboard is normally it is spongy and some ppl dont like the short travel of scissor switch.

You mean a pierced piece of metal as the keycaps? Atheistic wise sure nice but not sure if everyone will like the touch feel on it.

How to train for not bottoming out?

I am still not quite used to my Filco Red-switches. Thinking of switching to brown-switches.
*
Type faster and you will tend to leave off our finger before it bottom out.

Elseway, buy the silicon keyboard protecting sheet(full size one) and type with it on. It will not affect much on typing feel b4 key actuate but tend to limit(harder) when the key is deeply pressed. I never bottom out my blue b4 due to the thing.

Must fullsize/normal layout? If isn't, then I think this should be it.
Should be less than RM100(b4 ship) even using agent's rate.
Double shots, full-metal casing and made in UK.

Such adapter is extremely rare to be found. Though, it is widely available in Taobao.

In your case, you need to convert a 7G, so the one in your picture should be able to work. If you want to convert other brands/types of keyboard in to USB connection, it is more recommended to get a branded/tested working one.

The most suggested such adapter in GeekHack is blue cube(a generic one) and Belkin ps2 to usb adapter(extremely expensive(20 USD) if you source them from western country, better buy those 2nd hand one from Taobao).

Key puller is universal(for cherry switch, except some modifier keys need extra care).
But keycaps are not, especially 6GV2/7G, they having slightly odder layout.

I can see MX Blacks/Blues, being not very popular with your sales
Assuming that the costing is the same for all types of the options, I suggest you do a pre-order for all types of the keyboards, then you can just bring in the correct amount for those.
For those that did not pre-order, then you can stick with one color and the key switches that is most popular or something?

This is just my 2 sen, no experience in business, so do take it with a grain of salt.
*
That the ratio of 1:1:2:2:5(or higher) for black:clear:red:blue:brown
Brown currently less competitor in Malaysia, so it is still quite easy to sell off. Blue didn't sell well probably cz of the bling bling king - Razer BW.
The black and white only need small amount to make them more unique and to meet the small portion of demand(less ppl like the stiffness of black and white but some DO).

Do it the profitable clever way, bring in keyboard in the ratio of 1white:4/5black to made white one more unique. Place the price of white at RM10 more and those ppl who are attention whore(like to be unique) or having white fetish will easily fall prey of it. brows.gif
