lol, I've even tried clear stem on blue spring, ended up as a F-ed up switch. But blue stem on clear spring gives a different click sound
*
Clear stem on blue spring are Ergo Clears. It is very tactile. The Clear spring somewhat hides the tactility of Clear stems.
You should try it on a layout to get the true feeling, the ergo clears.

Leopolds got black and red mah tongue.gif
Blacks are generally more silent due to the force that is used to actuate the switch.

But does touch type have anything to do with not bottoming out?
*
I touch type, but I still bottom out a lot especially on Topre switches.
It's a personal preference thing, this whole thing about bottoming or not. The fun part is the feeling your fingers get when you are using these keyboards, that is the most important consideration in using Mech Keyboards.

Anyways, the RnD guy from CM, battlesheep confirmed this at GH. That the CM storm

its built by the same fab as filcos wink.gif
actually i think its a modified costar reference design, which is what filco uses as well

So the build quality should be the same as FILCO since the same people made them.

and springs, everywhere.
*
A Model M is more well built than this.
Some of the keycaps might be dislodged, but it is unlikely that the springs would come out.
In fact, I think a blow to a person with a Model M might not have any effect on the case. I dropped a Model M from knee height before, it hit my feet, and it was a rather bad experience.

I'm wondering what is the actual "best" mechanical gaming keyboard in terms of performance, currently available? Searching in Google and asking around in other forums turn up that Filco boards, despite apparently being designed for office use, is actually the best option for enthusiasts.

Is this really true, even beating companies dedicated to gaming peripherals such as Razer's Blackwidow and Steelseries' Z-Board? If so, I'm going to look for one just to test it out.
*
Judging a keyboard by its performance is the wrong way of putting it. I'm not sure which perfectly working keyboard would show a key on the screen slower than any other perfectly working keyboard
As to gaming peripherals company, they work based on branding/marketing, not on how good they really are. I'm not saying they are not good, but there are better options out there

To select a keyboard, you would need to consider, among other things, the key feel, and the build quality. In terms of key feel, the types of switches dictates the key feel, most of the time. As to build quality, FILCO, is very good in this, that's why you keep getting hits about it being recommended. The upcoming CM Storm Rapid are build by the same OEM, so the build quality is as good/comparable.

Just gotten my Realforce keyboard.

Much quieter than my Filco brown.

Feels like a linear keyboard, the bumps are not as noticeable as Filco brown.
*
have you gotten used to the thocking and clacking of the keys yet?

Argh.. the nearest is somewhere like Aus right? It's around RM500+ once converted
*
The ones from PCHOME have them ugly looking zhuyin letters going around.
If you really want it so badly, consider getting it from Taobao. About close to RM400~ shipped.
The used ones at Taobao, goes for really cheap, maybe RM300 shipped, but you gotta check which version they are. DAS version 3 are prone to USB failure.

or get from HK
http://www.linkecomputer.com/search/?newde...d&search=Search
Price is close to RM450~

no, i do not have stock for the moment, my next batch of keyboard arrival is at november, if you want, you can place a order with me, and it will be ship together with my next batch of keyboard, futher discussion please use pm, i don't want mod use aeroplane dogfight and shoot my ass.  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

anyway, my demo topre appears to be same model as the one you have right now, the keyboard are surprisingly good. i have to agree that the keyboard is indeed has a more "smooth" feeling then a brown. one thing i still haven't get comfortable with are the QAZ line, they are much more lighter as my finger are not getting use to it.
*
That is among the reasons I opted for the 87u with 35g for QAZ line. However, if you touch type, you can barely notice the pinky keys being different weighting. But caution not to rest the fingers on the home row, that activates aaaaaaaaaaaaaa and ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; easily
The all 45g Realforce 86u might be rather interesting, and maybe much better to use?

The only uniform ANSI layout Realforce I know of are the 103U 55g, 104U 45g, 86U 45g (from cyclone's sales thread) ,87U 45g, 87U 55g
More on the ISO and Japanese layout front but I didn't do much research on those

if you guys have any kind of special request i can try to ask headquarter out to see if it's available.

Btw, i just finish cutting my finger nails to type topre keyboard, definitely more better, was feeling awkward with long feeling nails typing a topre keyboard.

Edited: Added.

Bottoming the Realforce keyboard doesn't have any kind of clacking sound.

*
Clacking sound is when you release the switches quickly
Bottoming out, and typing quickly you should hear Topre domes farting

QUOTE(kianweic @ Oct 22 2011, 06:17 PM)
What brand is the black and white keyboard?

That should be his Leopold in KBC PBT mix and match set

Maybe it's just me and my placebo effect doing the talking here. You could ignore that.
Pity you had to sell the FILCO R away. Maybe you can contact the 2 FILCO sellers who wanted this version of the FILCO, see if it'll find a new home.

Found some O-rings that can be sourced locally, free shipping too

http://malaysia.rs-online.com/web/p/seals-kits/0689596/
These are exactly the same size as the ones the people at GH got from electronics store, but not sure about the hardness of the rings
Price : rm12.80 for 50 rings

EDIT: 70 shore hardness. Not very useful

Is there any other Topre switch keyboards other than Real Force?

I am considering in getting another for work as my Filco brown kinda annoys my colleagues every now and then.
*
The Happy hacking keyboard Professional 2.
Uniform weighting, but a tad more stiffer than Realforce although both are claimed to have 45g keys

Wonder why oh why...
So many people wants MX Red?

Do you guys like MX Red more than others like blue or brown???
*
People want them because MX red used to be rare. Then it got rather common with all the Chinese brands doing it.
It's a really nice switch to game on, but as for typing, I don't like it so much.
My preference Blues>Reds>Browns

It's a steelseries 7G.
The guy has super strong fingers or the distortion of the audio from the phone cam is making the MX blacks sound so loud.
