The file downloaded from the link you gave me is the complete Synaptics program? Or is it the driver?

I'm downloading it now, but I'll uninstall the program later after getting some confirmation.

OK I'll make a system restore point before re-installing the Synaptics program.

Anyway, since I found out my battery has a 0.45% wear level, I have decided to remove the battery from the laptop. I normally use my laptop with the charger, so is it absolutely fine for the laptop to run constantly at about 70C (battery NOT in laptop)?

Hey can I get my mousepad buttons fixed?

The buttons are "protruding" at the middle part between the left and right mouse button. Other units I tested did not have "protruding" buttons.

It's not that much of a problem, but I just thought I wanted to have it finished nicely. tongue.gif

HP Service Center offered to replace my laptop with a new one due to some problems.

Will the new one be a recon unit?

w00tz.. what problem u having?
*
First visit

1. Mouse buttons not properly fixed. (HP fixed it by replacing the entire casing and touchpad.)

2. Monitor panel produces sound when it is being opened. (I do not know if this was fixed.)

Second visit (one day right after I retrieved my unit from HP service center)

1. Monitor scratched by the technician. I didn't notice it at the service center when I retrieve it because my wallpaper is black.

2. Keyboard flexes badly, happened after changing the entire bottom-part of my laptop.

The technician then offered to replace my unit.

Source please, thanks!

Also, since my friend and I both have the same unit, we both got the headphones.

Here's the thing, our headphones are different.

Our headphone ear paddings are different. His is softer, covers more of the ear, applies less pressure and less hold (still good). Mine is rigid, covers slightly less of the ear and applies more pressure but gives a firmer hold.

Can't find a third set to compare with. rclxub.gif

So we don't know which is the original padding lol. whistling.gif

Authorized Apple stores do not sell Beats products, so we can't check from there. Anywhere else in Penang that I can find another set?

Hey guys, how do I enable USB 3.0?

I just bought a WD Passport with USB 3.0 and when I tried the speed by transferring a single 18GB .RAR file, it achieved speeds of 15 to 25MB per second only. I was expecting a lot higher.

Why is this?

EDIT: Tried second file (20.8GB, also a .RAR file). Transfer speeds plummeted. It's transferring at only 5 to 15MB per second. icon_question.gif

The USB 3.0 ports are on the left? I thought they were on the right side of the laptop?

Just tried transferring 9,906 files (videos files, PDF files, audio files & some Microsoft Office files) totaling 154GB via USB 3.0 (left port) from my DV6 to my WS Passport.

Speed gradually increased from 5MB/s and stabilized at 26MB/s.

What can I do to achieve a much higher speed? I am disappointed.

Anyway, does anyone know what will happen to my Microsoft Office if I get a replacement unit?

My usb 2.0 external is getting 27-32mb constantly .no matter how big/small the file is ,when plugged at usb 3.0 port.

I'm pretty sure I didn't uninstall it.

But just to be sure, what is the name of the software?

I'm getting 19MB/s now.

External HDD I'm using: Western Digital My Passport Essentials.

Transfer files from your laptop to the HDD. Click on Show Details and there you go.

Is it the HDD or the USB 3.0 in our laptops that's giving us problems. X.X

Is your WD harddisk usb cable male head (blue coloured plastic) and labelled with SS ?

the software is renesas electronic usb 3.0 host controller driver.
*
How do I check if it's enabled?

Yes, the HDD supports USB 3.0.

QUOTE(powerpack240v @ Jul 31 2011, 05:15 PM)
You need to send individual and large files to see the true speed. if there are multiple and tiny files, it has to keep starting and stopping again and again so it never gets fast
*
QUOTE(Zhao @ Jul 31 2011, 05:18 PM)
I am not sure why isnt the transfer speed as high as mine. try transfer smaller volume of files , 20-40gb once or zip the small files first =)
*
I tried transferring a single .avi file of 4.2GB. The speed obtained was about 35MB/s.

But if I transfer the file from the HDD to my laptop, then I get 75MB/s.

From laptop to HDD, 35MB/s.

From HDD to laptop, 75MB/s.

The DV6 cannot support fast USB 3.0? sweat.gif

For my USB 3.0 HDD

From laptop to HDD, 50-90MB/s.

From HDD to laptop, 90-120MB/s.

For my USB 2.0 HDD

From laptop to HDD, 25-40MB/s.

From HDD to laptop, 25-40MB/s.

Could it be that your external HD write speed limit the overall transfer speed?
*
I think it's the HDD.

I'm using WD My Passport Essential by the way.

download and install crystaldiskmark and do a sequential benchmark on your  internal HDD. our "uber ultra fast 5.4k rpm" hdd can't reach that speed. best i could get is 70-80mbps for internal copy-pasta.

kinda weird for kelvin case since he is using SSD. hmm.gif
*
I downloaded the software, but I don't know how to do the benchmark. How to do it? rclxub.gif

QUOTE(Efalex @ Aug 1 2011, 12:58 AM)
I just tested mine. It can go to 65MB/sec from laptop to external using WD My Passport.
You could try to transfer a single large file to check whether a higher transfer speed can be achieve or not.
If nothing works, maybe you should try to reinstall your USB 3.0 controller's driver.

Edit: correcting spelling
*
I tried a single 4.2GB file transfer (.avi movie file) earlier. I got about 35MB/s from laptop to HDD and 75MB/s from HDD to laptop.

Select which drive you want to benchmark, click SEQ. and wait for the result.
