Yes it is a prob on SGS , nothing to do with setting , its something built into the system file . U need 2 b rooted to correct it , set it higher ... I forgot to exact post , in Themes and Apps in XDA , look for something to do with replacing your messaging apps with cynogenmod sms

u wanna buy a SGS2 from korea and use it back here in malaysia ?

Check his contact > more > display options ....... chances r he didnt select the right option eg . selected phone contacts when his contact list is from his gmail and since hp contact list is empty , his contact will not be displayed except when receiving calls or sms

check your apn settings

Settings > wireless and network > mobile network > access point names
