After Paint
![]() Hi Wei Kee, may I know what is the cost of your main door ?? Initially I was thinking to have security door but I prefer the doors to be of equal size (not 1 big 1 small) and the width of my entrance is only 5ft. One of the shops is charging me RM2600 (5x7) including installation and door frames (merbau wood ??). It will be good if you can share with me the price. Thanks. |

QUOTE(BTimes @ Aug 20 2013, 06:56 AM) Neighbourhood as in the old / original desgn or my left neighbor design? The old design is outdated and making the internal structure very unpractical. My left neighbor, her house still stand out. I prefer basic don't look "grand" from outside. I don't like to show-off time. |

QUOTE(OneMoreDay @ Aug 20 2013, 08:05 PM) For the better, I would say. And this isn't Roman architecture but rather a mish-mash of post-modern architecture that seems to be the go-to style for developers back in the day. The original design, making the "look" not lasting. And really not practical. USJ and Subang Jaya owner know very well Sime darby design for look not for practicality. See Hoy Chan Design still the best, BU, DU, DJ all desing are very practical and space utilization are superb. |

Sometimes I truly wonder... why are Sime Darby designs like seriously outta this world - Era by era look ? My place was called "Gingerbread man" house by my Westerner friend. |

QUOTE(TarePanda @ Aug 22 2013, 05:01 AM) Do you feel insecure without grill install? Depend how you look at it. I like to open up the door and windows to allow air circulation. Imagine open up the door, and windows without grills. Don't think you see secure even in gated community right? i'm unsure to install a solid wood door or a security door If i plan to switch on 24x7 AC in my living room and close the door and widows, I will not put in grills. Just like my neighbor, she don't have grills and seldom see them opening up the windows or door. |

Like I say, depend your practive at home. If you like to open up windows and door. Having grill will give you security while letting air circulate. This post has been edited by weikee: Aug 22 2013, 02:11 PM |

QUOTE(TarePanda @ Aug 22 2013, 03:38 PM) My concern is whether it's easier for thief to break in if it's wood door? Hmm, double wooden doors, unable visualized the design. Post some photo when done. Wood or metal when they want to break in they still can. Is just slowing them down for few mins. If your wood are solid enough is not easy to break the door.I planing to install 2 layers of solid wood door. External layer will have whole for air circulation. Another set like yours. Get good lock and put a Jimmy Lock. I have a friend house put a Horizontal crossbar to secure the door when he sleep. Is very common in Europe. My other concern is fire safety. I mean with all these grills and barlocks, how does one have a fire escape plan? Most houses only have one staircase too. There was a recent case here where three boys were on the second floor when a fire broke out and they were stuck on the second floor and suffocated. :/

A second staircase is a second exit from an upper floor. That case where the three boys suffocated had one guy jump out the window to escape. We live in an intermediate single storey terraced house that we're adding one or two storeys to. Imagine being stuck on the third floor because your stairs is filled with smoke or its too hot to go down through the stairs. We'll be having two stairs, one in front, one behind. The second staircase is a seperate issue from grilles. I'm just pointing out that most multi-storey houses only have one staircase so in case of a fire emergency they only have one available exit route from the upper floor. Of course, you don't really need a second staircase. They have those folding attic ladders on the market here in Malaysia. |
