QUOTE(BTimes @ Aug 20 2013, 06:56 AM) You have just destroyed the Roman architecture of your neighbourhood... Neighbourhood as in the old / original desgn or my left neighbor design? The old design is outdated and making the internal structure very unpractical. My left neighbor, her house still stand out. I prefer basic don't look "grand" from outside. I don't like to show-off time.

QUOTE(limhm1 @ Aug 20 2013, 07:20 PM) After Paint Hi Wei Kee, may I know what is the cost of your main door ?? Initially I was thinking to have security door but I prefer the doors to be of equal size (not 1 big 1 small) and the width of my entrance is only 5ft. One of the shops is charging me RM2600 (5x7) including installation and door frames (merbau wood ??). It will be good if you can share with me the price. Thanks. I customade the door, was quoted RM 55 per sqft without stain and installation. All seperate charges. Now need about 75 - 80. Most door supplier will able to accept custom door design.

QUOTE(OneMoreDay @ Aug 20 2013, 08:05 PM) For the better, I would say. And this isn't Roman architecture but rather a mish-mash of post-modern architecture that seems to be the go-to style for developers back in the day. The original design, making the "look" not lasting. And really not practical. USJ and Subang Jaya owner know very well Sime darby design for look not for practicality. See Hoy Chan Design still the best, BU, DU, DJ all desing are very practical and space utilization are superb.

QUOTE(TarePanda @ Aug 22 2013, 05:01 AM) Do you feel insecure without grill install? i'm unsure to install a solid wood door or a security door Depend how you look at it. I like to open up the door and windows to allow air circulation. Imagine open up the door, and windows without grills. Don't think you see secure even in gated community right? If i plan to switch on 24x7 AC in my living room and close the door and widows, I will not put in grills. Just like my neighbor, she don't have grills and seldom see them opening up the windows or door.

QUOTE(limhm1 @ Aug 22 2013, 07:47 AM) I have that kind of dilemma too but in my case, they can always target at my sliding doors (with grille) and not the security door since it is quite troublesome for them to break open the security door. Like I say, depend your practive at home. If you like to open up windows and door. Having grill will give you security while letting air circulate. QUOTE(TarePanda @ Aug 22 2013, 03:38 PM) My concern is whether it's easier for thief to break in if it's wood door? I planing to install 2 layers of solid wood door. External layer will have whole for air circulation. Another set like yours. Hmm, double wooden doors, unable visualized the design. Post some photo when done. Wood or metal when they want to break in they still can. Is just slowing them down for few mins. If your wood are solid enough is not easy to break the door. Get good lock and put a Jimmy Lock. I have a friend house put a Horizontal crossbar to secure the door when he sleep. Is very common in Europe. This post has been edited by weikee: Aug 22 2013, 04:54 PM

QUOTE(OneMoreDay @ Aug 22 2013, 06:12 PM) My other concern is fire safety. I mean with all these grills and barlocks, how does one have a fire escape plan? Most houses only have one staircase too. There was a recent case here where three boys were on the second floor when a fire broke out and they were stuck on the second floor and suffocated. :/ The windows grill need to have small exit door. Not sure how you do it for wood"grill"

QUOTE(OneMoreDay @ Aug 23 2013, 02:50 PM) A second staircase is a second exit from an upper floor. That case where the three boys suffocated had one guy jump out the window to escape. We live in an intermediate single storey terraced house that we're adding one or two storeys to. Imagine being stuck on the third floor because your stairs is filled with smoke or its too hot to go down through the stairs. We'll be having two stairs, one in front, one behind. The second staircase is a seperate issue from grilles. I'm just pointing out that most multi-storey houses only have one staircase so in case of a fire emergency they only have one available exit route from the upper floor. Of course, you don't really need a second staircase. They have those folding attic ladders on the market here in Malaysia. If house big OK to put 2nd staircase. Many shop lots and commercial building also have one exit stairs. Like ss2 shop lots.

QUOTE(Mac Wai @ Dec 21 2013, 11:11 PM) Nice WC, "Lago" by JS. Bit pricey for me, my budget should be below RM600 for JS 'Como'. I also like yor oval shaped washing basin on the counter top, do you cover-up the pipes fittings, like a boxed up cabinet or leaving exposed? Those ready made basin and cabinet combo set looks boring to me already, most house have it,...no? Actually I forgot what model I got. Just buy within my budget + the look is ok. Frankly, JS quality so so only after I use for 2 years. The Lago flughing system now not working perfect, when new I just press once and the water fully flush out but now I got to press few more second to make sure the water are flish out. Oh, and try visit JF Home @ USG 9, price maybe cheaper than what you find even someone offered in this Forum.

QUOTE(maxxon @ Dec 22 2013, 03:04 AM) I bought Lago as well and a set of JS Vanezia. Lago is the best selling model of JS and I was told by the sales assistant that it has superb wash down system. Besides that, it is also very comfortable for sitting. When I did my WC shopping, I tried to sit on most of them to feel the 'best sitting' ones for my buttock! Hahaha! I've tried the 'como' at my friend's house and find that it is not so comfortable as the bowl is slightly smaller for me and the seat cover was like 'clashing' with my buttock bones causing leg numb after 'making business'... Thus, you gotta sit on those WC to find your best matching ones. Haha, I don't have a choosy buttock, as long can sit for few mins and do my business is OK. But Sometime do heavy business, need to flush twice.

BUMP my own site, did some home improvement yesterday. Alarm installation, Nothing to shout about of this alarm, is a common Paradox 8 Channel. The only speciall, I ask the installer to include the IP150 module aka internet module. It allow me to control my alarm via web, send notification via email. Not many know how to install this module including my installer. So I did the installation. All Wiring was done earlier during house reno in 2011, only one section of the alarm wire snap. Not big deal, we managed to tap it from the nearby same zone. Network cable terminate by me. This how it look like (almost complete. Testing phase This is the internet module. IP150 Here what i can see from the web. Not fancy but functional:

Plan are important, have a list of things you want, and also what you want in future (3-5 years later) and where the appliances are. Cables like alarm, network and where you place the alarm panel. all this have to plan ahead.

QUOTE(SumWalk @ May 29 2015, 01:20 PM) Well, that's right! Planning does not mean you should follow all the little details. This can be changed especially when there are unexpected things happened. At least have a framework, and what you want on the area. That way you know what are the necessary things there (cabling, piping, trunking, etc). If you need LAN, CCTV, Alarm, you need to know where it all terminate. Detail will come when we start building it. Most important don't put all your dependency to the designer/Project Manager/Site Supervisor because they can't read your mind.
