Crytek Making New U.S.-Based Studio from Vigil Remnants

The Darksiders developer has been saved by Crytek and will launch as a new Crytek studio here in the States.

Despite its strong track record with the Darksiders franchise, no one placed a bid on developer Vigil Games during THQ's fire sale last week. Instead, all of its employees were laid off, and the future of the Darksiders franchise looked bleak.

However, on Monday Crysis 3 developer Crytek, which purchased the Homefront IP from THQ, announced that it's forming a new studio here in the States. The ninth Crytek studio worldwide, this location will be called Crytek USA Corp and will be led by former Vigil Games head David Adams. What's more, Adams is bringing his 35-member core Vigil team under his new Crytek wing.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the newest Crytek studio, which will boast some of the brightest development talent in the industry. The studio’s launch represents Crytek’s commitment to delivering diverse and high quality content to players everywhere," said David Adams, the new CEO of Austin, Texas-based Crytek USA.

"Crytek has always enjoyed a special relationship with gamers and business partners in North America, so establishing a permanent presence in the US was a natural step," added Crytek CEO, Cevat Yerli. "We are extremely excited about the work that we will be undertaking from our strategic new location in Austin, with David Adams and his team of 35 experienced developers. We believe our CryENGINE technology will enable the team we assemble to create unparalleled new gaming experiences."

Jason Rubin, former CEO of THQ, thanked Crytek via Twitter for "saving as much as they could of a fantastic team." He also added that the "Darksiders and Red Faction IP have not been auctioned yet," meaning that Crytek's new studio will not move forward with another Darksiders game unless Crytek purchases the rights.

Crytek representative Jens Schafer confirmed with Escapist Magazine that "Crytek USA won't work on a new Darksiders game. At this point in time it is too early to share any future plans."

F**k you EA, don't you ever lay your gawd dam dirty, evil hands on my beloved Darksiders.

To me they are, just like DICE and Bioware.

I just hope they will never touch the Darksiders IP and leave it for someone else.

Honestly i hope they bought over the Darksiders IP. Who else other than Vigil themselves is better that is working on the franchise itself?

Also.. i hope they rehire Joe Madureira back too.

Problem is with the higher management.

If EA going to set some ridiculous dead line and emply their shitty business practice into the game like they did with Dead Space 3, I would prefer the game to be dead at Darksiders 2, which I think is an absolutely incredible game so that the IP got a good reputation and memories to go with whenever it is mentioned, instead of the way Medal of Honor goes.

I was hoping Joe Mad at some point, will form a company to buy the Darksiders IP to continue the game.

Honestly I think Darksiders 2 was kinda rushed. Can't be blame since when in development THQ was in real bad shape. If VG could join with Ninja Theory then I think Darksiders 3 is gonna be awesome. I still felt the 1st Darlsiders WAR was much more bad arse and epic than DEATH himself. Yeah DEATH was supposed to be fast and nimble but new DMC did it perfectly.

No one can defend that Darksiders 2 was rushed out of the door. From the horrible option screen, glitchy game play people constantly complain about (don't you love Karn?), horrible texture quality, you can pretty much know the game is rushed out before it is done either because the investors think it is a good idea to agitate more of their customer base at the expense of the company's reputation or they just plain run out of money to continue with development.

Ninja Theory's DMC is OK, nothing worth shouting about, just that the new Dante looks like a hobo that has too much alcohol, drugs and sex that will rob you in a dark alley at night, at least that is what I feel from what I see in the first 30mins. The level design and game play is nice as far as I can see.

Had to do a bit of digging and as it turns out EA doesn't own Crytek. They're just partners. So rejoice!

The option screen at launch is simply a slider to adjust the quality, a drop down box for resolution and a enable/disable for v-sync which does not work. If that is not bad then I don't know what is.

Try get closer and look at anything and you will see how bad the texture is. Also look at Death's model in the inventory screen, it would be a lie to say the model looks fine and not pixelated because everything in the game is using the same 720p resolution texture from console.

Try to find out how many players having problem with Karn goes missing, bridge in The Scar not falling after destroying the crystals, preventing the game from progressing, the phasewalker not updated to allow time travel in the demon world. Every single one of them are game breaking bug that prevented the players from progressing in the game. I personally have seen Karn gone missing in my game, which I got enough sense to know what I should do to fix it, stuck on a rock formation forcing me to restart the game, and even manage to knock one of those shadow orb used to solve puzzle out of the designated area, outside of the invisible wall set by the dev to prevent exactly that from happening, making the puzzle become unsolvable, but again, luck is on my side because the bug happened right after I solve the puzzle. Then there is the bug that wiped players save file, ranged weapon incaccurate aiming, Vulgrim not awarding the chest after trading in coins and more.

I love the game but if I say there are no major problems with the game then I would be lying.
