Well, this is interesting and irritating at the same time. In order to ensure I am getting as fast a connection as possible, I try to make sure I am connected using a few specific IPs, and avoiding a few others. This often requires me to disconnect and reconnect once in a while to switch IP addresses. Today, I found that I can no longer do this. Disconnecting and reconnecting cannot. Rebooting modem also cannot. Switching off modem and unplugging it for 10 seconds also cannot. The only way I managed to switch IPs was to shut down and unplug for the modem for a good 5 minutes. Anyone else facing this problem?

TM, everyday you find new ways to make me hate you more. Very soon, when I lease is over, I will have the great pleasure of terminating my streamyx account. The thought the my money will no longer add to your bottom line will please me greatly. A pox on the lot of you.

This morning I was still able to switch IP after discovering that I can't log in MSN. Sometimes I'll get stuck at 118... range for a few restart before finally changed to 60.53. and I remember getting this IP for 2-3 times continuously, and finally 175..

Seems like it takes a few restart to switch to another range

Wonder if anyone facing disconnecting problem?

Once disconnected, it takes a few minutes for my modem to try before logging in again. It keeps showing Authentication Fail error until it can connect back.

Any idea if something is wrong with the modem or line here?

Is Streamyx throttling the bandwidth for torrent?

I'm experiencing the speed of my transmission torrent is slowing down since yesterday.

I think tmnet have been doing this for many years already. At least for peers from outside the country.

Most torrent have very bad speed for me, only when I'm using VPN that I can get max speed easily.

Actually, the speed seemed to have been worse since mid February.

Does VPN help to improve speed? I'm still undecided about subscribing to VPN.

I only have work VPN as benchmark - and it's considerably slower for browsing compared to without VPN.

Thx

It does for me, but I guess it depends on the VPN service you use.

I'm using BolehVPN which is more expensive than some of the VPN provided by individual users here, but their service has been very good. As long as the torrent is good, I can fully utilize my streamyx line. VPN encrypts the data so there will be no throttling by tmnet, as the data is considered as normal data which is why you will be able to get good speed just like when you're watching youtube or downloading a file from a website.

If you're interested, they have a 3 days package for RM5, which can be used to test out the service.

And of course there are other VPN service too, you can take a look here.

But I don't know their quality since I've never used most of them.
