QUOTE(MGM @ Jun 21 2011, 12:31 PM)
Just install Unifi VIP5 with all TM equipment. Request that they install 15m of RJ45 and RJ15 with raceway but gave the excuse they running out of stock but promise to come back so for the time being is using standard 1m cable and everything put together. Sign the acceptance form but put down a condition that they are suppose to install the 15m cable at a later time.

I have two notebooks NEW and OLD, the NEW one is able to detect and access wireless and wired
But the OLD one can access thru RJ45 wire and but cannot detect my own UNIFI wireless network even though it can detect many neighbourhood UNIFI networks. What could be the problem, pls help.

QUOTE(buyoq @ Jun 21 2011, 12:41 PM)
im having the same issue as well
in my case,my phone and my wife's lappy unable to detect the router wireless SSID.
Other wireless SSID are there except mine.
*
QUOTE(kekura @ Jun 21 2011, 01:20 PM)
i have the same problem. it is a compatibility issue. My old PC can connect the wifi but the traffic is intermittent. i use RJ45 directly now can surf full speed without intermittent.

the only way to solve this issue is to replace with better quality router that can support unifi.
*
... I answered this question hell hell hell a lot of time...

It's interference issue here. Go into you DIR-615, goes under setup->wireless setup->manual wireless connection setup->WIRELESS NETWORK GLOBAL SETTINGS->untick "Enable Auto Channel Selection" then try those channels. Find a channel in which ALL your devices will be able to detect it!!

erm.... just experience something new (i think). I set my DNS using OpenDNS/Google DNS since I got my UNIFI installed... was working fine until an hour ago when I came back from work & turn on the equipments thinking to go online but I can't get connected at all even after 30min... iptv & wifi works (donno bout the phone) so I decided to try using the default DNS from TM... guess what it work immediately... change back to OpenDNS/Google DNS ~ can't get connected... change back to TM DNS ~ connected.

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I alone? pls confirm...
*
Erm... Have you touched other setting when you're setting the DNS? @.@ My Google DNS is set within DIR-615. Nothing wrong so far. Smooth smooth~

wanna ask
did u guys just leave your modem on for 24hours .???
or u off it on night, and use it when u want to use .???

if im not mistaken that unifi guuy said no need to off modem
so i nver off modem unless its raining heavily,

maybe thats the reason why my modem always rosak ?
*
Me here, student house, never off. Only restart as the router keep hang or get to interfere with other wifi, causing some of my housemates cannot connect!

if sure got download then worth. Else if you're just surfing net then not worth as speed doesn't matter too much. Unifi if you want symmetrical upload speed too.

Anybody can confirm what's is the capping speed for each unifi package..

Mine never reach 5Mbps, Only 4.7.. Make me think their capping the speed 5,000,000 bits and not 5242880. It's about 200Kbps different..
*
LOL Why do you even care about that 0.3Mbps??? There's tonnes of aspect that may cause the drop in speed.

Does Unifi bill payment through maybank2u work?

I have used their occ portal to pay using my credit card before.... and the payment went through, got charged by bank, and the status on the occ portal still remained unpaid!! I had to call them more than 10 times over the course of 1 month to FINALLY get them to acknowledge that I paid and subsequently update the payment history.

Since then I've been paying it over TM Point counters. But I've been thinking perhaps paying by maybank2u won't give me the same kind of trouble I ran into with payment via their portal.

What's your experience with paying unifi bills via maybank2u?
*
I pay through Pos Online xD Then from pos online, I pay with public bank.

Maybe someone should really file a complaint to SKMM/MCMC regarding this issue-Poor customer service and prolonged waiting time. Someone should do it first then paste everything here so that we can just send the exactly same thing to SKMM to pressurize them on this issue. Anyone wants to take the lead? xD

Erm... We subscribe VIP5 together mah... Then the DIR-615 is still doing its job with "auto-restart" every 2~3days. I can't urge them to pay for a new router. If I am to buy a router then I'm like sponsor them to use my router for free. Very sien one le... If like that T.T Then if spoil they won't bear the responsibility as well. So how?

QUOTE(4th alphabet @ Jun 28 2011, 07:03 PM)
just got unifi installed for my parents today. the technician told me something very strange and i wanted to confirm with you guys if it is true. i didn't like the default network SSID that he configured for me eg. myname@unifi so i asked if i can change it later. his response was not to change the SSID name because it will decrease the speed of the unifi connection. he said something about TM already programmed my default SSID in their system so it should be the same on my wireless network.

does that make sense at all? any of you guys experience slower speeds after changing the SSID name?

thanks!
*
Erm... If the technician is still there, hit him with your knuckle and kick his s xD
I've changed the ssid and still can achieve full speed on torrent no prob. That technician probably lazy to setup for you or maybe want to have lunch tack bit earlier only say that xD Just change it but don't suka suka change to SSID with the same name as your neighbours one la. lol

QUOTE(miyakochan89 @ Jun 28 2011, 07:13 PM)
hi...
I have a question here, I have my unifi installed and realized that the wifi signal is very weak especially in some far-end room of my house. I have tried the methods such as bridging from unifi.athena.my and realize that the wifi signal at some places are still very weak despite the fact that I am already using my own router. That would mean that it's probably the distance or wall thickness factors that affect the wifi signal.

My question is that are there any other solutions to solving this? Do i need homeplug or repeater? Are they "plug and play?" as I am not very tech-savy, might not be able to configure the device. Thanks in advanced!
*
Probably the router is not installed at the best position that can cover whole house. Why don't you tell the brand/model of your own router and see if anyone using them and let them assist you if anything can be done to improve the signal power. Normally ppl go for router with higher transmitting power else upgrade antenna else repeater as you said.

Hello! Thanks for your prompt reply. The modem is Aztech DSL605EW. The antenna cannot be removed. =< My dad kinda bought it so I didn't get to choose it beforehand.
I have been thinking to try on the DD-WRT guide from Rizvan but I am kinda hesitating. Repeater might be a safe idea if it doesn't cost a lot.  hmm.gif

Thanks again!
*
SWT... Erm... I think you better try try that Aztech first then I think you will revert back to DIR-615...
I used that before and it totally sucks... It is even worse than dir-615 (my experience...). If you torrent on that Aztech through WiFi, prepare to get "HANG-ED" connection maybe once in 10~15mins... Everytime this happens, I need to disconnect from the router(on laptop) and reconnect... Very frustrating...

Oops... Wait... That DSL605EW is a adsl modem isn't it? You configured it to work as router? I tried to google on setting it as router only but i din see anyone said success so far. lol...

I used the bridging guide thingy. It works initially but later on it doesn't anymore I don't really know what happened. The wifi signal is as bad as the DIR-615.

The entire unifi setup is the 3rd room, and the other end of my house (master bedroom's end) gets really bad connection. When I shifted to unifi setup to the 2nd Room however, I could receive full bar in the master bedroom.

The only problem is that the setup has to remain in the 3rd room as my brother is using the modem with cable. So the master bedroom receives almost no signal at all. So I am thinking to put a repeater in the 2nd room instead if there are no other options. =<

Added on June 28, 2011, 9:08 pm

Get TPLINK's repeater? Compatible with the DIR-615?
*
OMG... Your rooms are SO BIG that wifi signal can't penetrate through @.@ Why don't just pull the router and put outside 3rd room then just lan cable into the room? Try it first and see whether u can receive signal. If can then should be the best. This should work as it doesn't need to penetrate through that many wall.

QUOTE(antonio @ Jun 30 2011, 01:59 AM)
This might sound noobish and probably stupid, but I still wanna ask;

-Why do you guys decide to change the bundled with router (DIR-615)?? Because I really don't understand even after reading various version of this thread...I understand if the DIR-615 is dead and that you decide to get a new one as opposed to waiting for TM to send a replacement unit, but most replies I'd glance, there are some who swap their DIR-615 to TP-Link, Asus and even Mikrotik...

What are the benefits (technically) and what makes you wanna change the DIR-615? My guess is (and I know it is probably not accurate) that probably the wireless function may be a little bit weak..but isn't most reputable brands have similar if not same amount of power in terms of the transmitter to be in accordance with health and safety bla bla bla, set by FCC or whatnot...unlike those 2W China/Taiwan USB antenna or signal amplifiers (which is not accordance to most country law or regulation tongue.gif but I like them brows.gif )..

I have been using Unifi since its free testing days (back in mid 2010) at the office (the DIR-615 is just behind my chair and have no problems whatsoever) and 5 days of using it at home....both my office and home are 5Mbps subscription and neither have been showing signs of the DIR-615 unable to provide me with 500kbps (or sometimes even more)...

can someone elaborate or provide me with a link on the real reason WHY, some of the guys here swap the DIR-615 with other Wireless Routers?

Is it speed? is it distribution of speed? is it range? is it temperature problem? is it power problem? is it the lack of antenna change? or just simple because it looks ugly and the ASUS U56 just looks astonishing??  rolleyes.gif
*
For me... It's just the Wireless that matters... For my case, staying in condo, maybe due to tonnes of wifi surrounding, interference just happens and connection just drop with no reason... After connection drop, my SSID became "Invisible" then this this that that... Another thing is that signal strength fluctuates a lot. I usually use inside my room with the router right behind the wall, signal strength still fluctuates from FULL (5bars on win7) then drop to 4 and even worse, to 2. I don't understand why this happens as my old wireless G asus modem router at my hometown always give me full bar signal even though the router is placed downstair while i'm using upstair. Next, the router just love to hang... Staying with friends, 8 of them. The router just can't handle this amount of user well. Restart once in 2~3 days. Sometimes 1 day. However, when it's up and running, it can just do its job. Need to give it restart once in a while else web browsing is quite sluggish... Next next next, the QOS thingy... I don't know what's the qos in dir-615 for. Tick or untick it gives no difference. The most this router can do if the filter function. I can't stand ppl keep on using those p2p software(WITH NO LIMIT!!!!! Very sien lo!!!! Cannot tell them straight in their face too...) What I do is i filtered his connection using filter rules, blocking UDP sessions(dropping UDP packets sent to his laptop) brows.gif brows.gif But still very sien lo~~~ Look at the log, 40pages of log can easily be filled up by "Dropping UDP XXXXXXXXXXXXXX from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX bla bla bla" within 2~3mins.
