QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 8 2011, 05:11 PM) Woooooi what are you planning?!!! APA ni 'MASTER PRAE"..........I must now every 5 seconds turn around and watch my back!!!! my main stick isk the k95. doesn't sound hollow.I think I should buy Supreme this week.......if kena this type of praise from you.....something not right......... I am no real expert lah boss, but to be honest, from experience, say for example, **AHEM** Wilson Pro Staff this racket is 'solid' when you tap it , you don't get the hollow sound, say like hitting a Wilson K95....even the K6.1 tour sounds solid...I think most Babolats are hollow....the Head Prestige Pro is quite solid, may be not as solid sounding as the Wilson Pro Staff.....just my 0.02 cents. babolats do though. prestige pro doesn't sound hollow... of course the PS's don't too. my 3 cents |

To tell you the truth, I still remember when I was a little kid, and I would watch pros play in Ipoh in those cheap satellite tournaments that highlighted top 300 pros.
I was completely BLOWN AWAY by their skills and intensity. It doesn't have to be those famous pros that draw the crowd. The fact that there are top 100 or so players coming to play, should draw attention from the tennis crowd. EVEN more so from those coaches and young ones trying to aspire to be better tennis players. If not for my current location now, I'd definitely try to make it for at least the finals and semis. *sob sob sob |

Kev:
Kinabatangan? We have one court that looks like a decimated war zone.. Pro shop is about 1 1/2 hours away which is situated in town. It's not much of a pro shop. We can get the very basic necessities there... i.e. balls, probably a selection of 5-10 good quality racquets that are completely overpriced, and tennis shoes are... let's just say... sad sad sad. The only thing that I actually purchase or do in those pro shops is restringing. And THANK GOODNESS they have the Ashaway Crossfires that I use.... before that, I actually had to use some cheap imitation of tennis strings that had no brand. However, the tennis community in Sandakan is excellent. very good fraternity here. If you guys wish to come, do stop by for great tennis, great seafood, and great nature trips. No tennis shopping whatsoever though. |

QUOTE(inv @ Aug 10 2011, 09:33 AM) When Kev visits there, you guys can shop FROM him instead.. hahaha! i think ashaways crossfires are the most used strings in Malaysia.. btw, any one of you have POG hidden somewhere? nope. no POGs here. mostly wilson, head, babolat users... one guy uses a yonex though... ashaway so far is the most comfortable while durable for me.. QUOTE(k3vin82 @ Aug 10 2011, 09:53 AM) Thanks for the brief insight.. wahh so u have to travel 1 1/2 hours to get stringing done? how much do they charge ? i always wanted to travel down to east malaysia one day.. maybe next time i'll propose to my sg group or lyn to make a trip down to sabah .. really wanna go climb mount kinabalu also.. so can drop by prae's and dark angels place maybe ... yes. which is why having a few more racquets help. do come... but tell me earlier though. sandakan yya. not kk.Its good to have a good tennis community and a friendly one so it'll be fun playing the game n no other nonsense... prae is from sabah? |

QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 10 2011, 12:43 PM) wah kev....climbing mount kinabalu and then play tennis....i think you may need 1-2 days rest first than can play lol, btw I got the stuff already :-p wahhhh i'm paying about 45 for the restringing and strings. that's really expensive paying 60+ for ashaway crossfire.... and yeah, in sabah... prices are shot straight up high... dunno why... where are ya exactly in sabah?yhaaa facing some problem here, gears are not laku here....cannot find latest rackets,strings,shoes,etc....I think some shops are still sellin ncode n tour 2 at RM699..........Ashaway here cost....RM60-65 inclusive of stringing the racket I think.Thats why I prefer to buy reels of strings than sets, if I want to try a string, then I'll buy 2-4 sets and play with the tension.....if I like the string then I buy reels. I prefer Microgel as I prefer the feel to it, surprising this is the only racket I like when I am playing with a double back hand, I tried a friends APDGT for 5 mins but could not get the 'feel' of it within the 5 mins will try again after puasa...... |

QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 10 2011, 02:50 PM) Hahahah 'hibernation' lol never thought of it like that, but few do want to play around 5pm, play for may be 40-45 mins, then break fast at the court then go....depends, at night no kaki as I ,myself don't like playing at night...too cold at the komplexs here and most of my kaki's are Muslim, so they have to perform 'teraway' I am not too sure on the correct spelling, I apologise in advance. Ic.... by any chance you played in either interaffiliate or in team tennis invitational in Sabah? we've got quite a lot of tournaments here.RM45 WOW! Thats alot cheaper than here ...knnnnnnnnnn maybe due to your close proximity to KK...here in Tawau...give or take RM60-65...also no offence, please do be careful as I have come across some 'counterfeit' Ashaway Crossfire strings....from packaging abit hard too tell, unless you really used Crossfire from the early 90's....but you can tell from the string, though this is based on my own research, eg tenniswarehouse crossfire plays and looks slightly different than local crossfire being sold in some stores in Tawau.I am located in Tawau. I think I may have a few acquaintances that plays in Sandakan, though I don't really play with that group, I know of them, and have hit with them on causal on and off basis...may be big size Kee and Salam, a quite tall skinny fella... I can differentiate an authentic ashaway real easily just by looking at the strings. even more so after playing with em for a while.. QUOTE(ckseong80 @ Aug 10 2011, 03:03 PM) counterfeit Ashaway only can tell from the strings. Kev:They haven Ashaway markings on them. Material hey say exactly same but feel somehow kurang sikit. anxiously waiting for them.... HUHUHUHUHU |

team tennis and the datin rosmah cup is a doubles event. but the interaffiliate has both singles and doubles. you should join it next year cause this year's one just finished. sandakan is celebrating their 25th anniversary. you guys are welcome to buy tables and come celebrate with us to make it more fun... at the same time, drop by for some tennis. i've played with salam before. he's not bad. you should definitely try to come for a friendly.

QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 11 2011, 02:43 PM) Yaaa hopefully next year , thanks for the vote of confidence! <3 i see... well, he has joined a couple of tournaments here since coming to sandakan... so that's how i know him. but he doesnmt play in the sandakan tennis club ... so i don't play with him regularly... i'm actually posted in kinabatangan... so you should know how it is...Last I played with him was a while back before he left for Sandakan , he normally plays at MPT courts which are for the state/national or selected Tawau Team players, whereas I play at Sports Complex courts, as I prefer them, also too many people play at MPT courts for my liking 30-50 people on 2 courts....:-( He's a nice and approachable fella when I met him, I know one of his friends better as his friend normally plays with us and also was selected for Tawau Team, but now is in KK, under training as a Fireman (Bomba) trainee.....or something like that. But to be honest I'll rather take a back seat and give the chance to youngsters and let them gain experience and exposure, and let them represent the state or National Squad....I am a middle aged old fart, who has grandeurs of delusion, way past his time, and past expiration date x-p. 50 players? that's just crazy man... your pool of talent must be strong dude.... wedon't have that many i think... but i wouldn't know much cause ive just shifted to sabah from perak. nice to know a fellow sabahan player in lyn |

QUOTE(praetorian @ Aug 14 2011, 12:24 PM) TK it doesn't matter if your opinion is different, than someone else's, it does not mean you are wrong....if I tell you multi put Multi in main and not cross, its a suggestion, it does not mean putting multi in cross is wrong or bad, I know some people who put crossfire kevlar as a a cross, why? Because they always break the cross first and never the main.....even now, they put synthectic cheap gut as a main and kevlar as a cross......they swear by it....you cannot say thats wrong...if it works for them and they like it....its their choice, I wouldn't worry what other people say or think...take care. Well... i agree with prae on this one. everyone feels the strings differently. there is always a rough guide for the feel of the strings though.. just a rough guide:1. The main strings affect the overal feel and playability of the strings. for example, if you want more durability from the strings, then you shsould syring the kevlar oe poly at the mains. if you want sofer feel, go for gut or multis at the mains. 2. even that can differ from one player to another. but it's a good guide to refer to. |

well... you can always just give it a try.. for example, put a soft gut string on the mains and hard stiff poly on the crosses... then on another, flip it the other way around.. i'm sure you'll notice a significant difference similar to what i've described before.
