many times i noticed downlaoding at 1/8 of full speed, then i changed to wpa/psk, full speed again.

depends on ur router, everytime some1 is connected to ur router.. they will be assigned an IP address and their MAC address will be assigned to that IP

unless they put up a sign big big write FREE WIFI for my good neighbor...else you are piggy back and its illegal

if you have a WIFI access point, maybe do these below at least..

1. use WPA2 security (not wep or WPA)
2. do not publish your SSID
3. control MAC access

go to admin page (usually 192.168.1.1) login and select LAN and it will list the ip and device name connected to your network, and its machine id. if u find something not right, use the machine id shown and put it on block. forever that fella wont be able to login from that machine.

hide your SSID of your wifi accesspoint.

only you know.

And for added security, remove DHCP and add in static IP, which start in other form of IP range like for example, 193.166.10.2 for your wifi device. (not the default 196.168.1.1 which most people know).

each device has its own admin settings and interface and additional configuration


Basic i can tell you is:

SSID = your wifi point name. Hide it. So when u use your laptop wifi, just manually add in the SSID. coz it wont appear in your wifi scan.

Things u can do on wifi.

1) hide ssid
2) enable WPA2 encryption
3) allow only MAC Address defined
4) narrow down ur DHCP client numbers. Make ngam-ngam for ur house #computer numbers.


additional : troublesome but good enough : narrow down your network segment to /28 or /29 or anything related to numbr of ur computer. use class A or B. and disable DHCP.

best is disable all DHCP, go static with your own customized IP range.

now, do you even know how to set this yourself? most n00bs dont.
