For point and shoot, I think N82 is better. And the camera button is easier to press.
For playing with settings, yeah logically N8 is the king, I don't know, I'm noob in photography. And problem is, to play with the setting itself, it will take time, and the scene you want to capture is probably gone ady by the time you're set.
But like I said this is just me, so it's good that others don't find it a problem.
N82 shutter button don't go in so much; but actually, it's not so fair to compare N82 as it's screen it's smaller, lower megapixel; You won't notice how bad the image is, especially at such small screen.
If you want to compare, try viewing at larger screen.
Actually, it's simple, just like cameras vs DSLR; DSLR is powerful, but doesn't mean anyone can take good picture and it doesn't mean it's easy to use; Many people bought it, end up the picture is worst than their point and shoot quality and it's harder to use and more complicated. But if the person learns to use it, then the person will utilize the capability of the camera and produce better results.
Hence, this said, sometimes, it's not important to get a DSLR, some people may just want a easy to use camera with LCD (LiveView) but has great performance like DSLR, they should look for those mirrorless camera, like Panasonic G series (G, GF, GH), Olympus PEN, Sony NEX, etc. These camera, have better performance than DSLR when use in liveview mode (e.g. GF2 focusing is blazing fast (the touch focus, you touch, it immediately focus and snap) and it's so easy to use).
Anyway, back to N8; You can save your CUSTOM settings, so everytime you launch the camera, it'll use your custom settings. As for usage wise, I mostly indoors, so same like you, I don't fancy the use of N8. In lowlight, N8 or many digital camera is weak and slow, especially if you want to capture movements (e.g. baby, kids, etc). In daytime, it performs great, just like many other phone camera and digital camera, the difference is the image quality, picture control (colour, sharpness, etc).
