tht article was published b4 arc updated theirs to 2.3.3..

ppl from xda have tried gingerbreak 1.2 on their arc but no success..

if u successfully rooted urs using tht, thn by all means do tell us smile.gif

thr r many arc owners waiting for tools tht can rooted their 2.3.3 without unlocking their bootloader as unlocking the bootloader will prevent u from getting software updates from SE..

rooting only is safe, if u dun meddle around without knowing anything bout ur phone..

btw, u can unroot back n thus ur warranty still intact if thts wat u mean..
*
yup , i quite agree wat you mean, unfortunately i'm using xperia neo
hasn't root yet, just looking is there any way to do root

btw, someone from xda forum mentioned they found a way to root 2.3.3 but u nid to revert back to .181 first, then update to .145 through OTA..

u nid to use flashtool to revert back to .181, so read carefully how to do it b4 proceed..

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...59#post14534859

n for those unlocked bootloader user, jerpelea from xda forum oledi got hand on ARC, so its juz a matter of time b4 custom rom will b made smile.gif

is it mean that now i have firmware at 2.3.3, revert back it using flash tools

To get more, use other launcher. Stock launcher is crap for most of the android phones.. Try go launcher ex at market, its free n more customizable..

sori, cant help u with OTA as i didnt do it on my phone.. if u wipe data, meaning all ur previous data is gone right? so if u install back again all the apps, it shud b working fine now..

Added on June 14, 2011, 11:57 am

if u didnt unlock ur bootloader, its not a prob to update to the latest version as seus and pc companion and OTA shud b working fine with ur phone..

b4 u decide to unlock ur bootloader, make sure u know wht u r doing as unlocked bootloader is intended for those devs or someone who interested to do a custom rom for the phone.. unless u know how to make a custom rom, or there r support for ur phone from the devs outside there, its unnecessary for u to unlock ur bootloader..

even for the arc we hav a lil support from the devs who r interested to make a custom rom eventho the bootloader is unlocked.. fortunately jerpelea from x10 is interested in arc n decide to buy it n play with itto make a custom rom..

I agree want you mention. Actually i wan to be a super user and delete some application which i don need. I still feel happy with SEUS or OTA.but i'm lookig way to root it without unload bootloader.

custom firmware is another option, but currently there is no developer intend to make for xperia neo

If u wan to root it without unlocking ur bootloader, thrs no way except to wait for ur region firmware to come u..p with OTA..

or waiting those developer to find the way to root it.

if using the xperia arc, downgrade to 2.3.2 after update 2.3.3
and ginger break it then update via OTA

if fall to xperia neo, i can't find related firmware to downgrade it

Yeap, thts the process to do if wanna get rooted 2.3.3 w/o unpocking the bootloader..

As for ur case, u nid to find the older firmware to downgrade it.. N not all firmware can b rooted via OTA... Iia only global generic OTA works..
*
for xperia neo currrently have 1 global version only.

don have older than that

so i guess there is no way for u to get rooted for now unless unlocking the bootloader...

n for u to gain root after unlocking bootloader u also nid to know how to make pre rooted image of ur firmware..
*
For this moment, there is no way, unless wat u say unlock the bootloader,
for the pre rooted image, there is several source out there, so i still need to create pre- rooted image for my self?

Why dont you follow the advice by Ultima where you can downgrade to 2.3.2 then root it, then upgrade to 2.3.3 and still have root access?

Is the instructions from XDA too hard to follow? Complicated I guess rclxub.gif
*
the downgrade version use by Xda developer is apply on Xperia arc, but not Xperia Neo
Coz i already try and already brick my phone once, but lucky i find the way to restore it again.

Currently there is not higher firmware version for Xperia Neo.
However as i quote from Ultima, even u have higher version, there is no guarantee i can update via OTA

For those Xperia Neo who use this method

Link: Xda Developer

i'll confirm you will brick you phone, coz the firmware mention is the forum is not compatible with Xperia Neo

If you already brick you phone, try to reflash it with the generic Firmware.

To flash it use this tools
Link: Flash Tools

Xperia Neo Firmware
Link:mt15i_3.0.1.a.0.145_GLOBAL
(That is a Chinese Webpage provide to download the .FTF firmware)

How to flash your phone
Link: Video from ricstc effort

Just Follow the FIRST PART ONLY how to flash the firmware.
Before you load, make sure ur firmware is put under FIRMWARE folder.!!

If you phone cannot detect by the PC during the flashhing, try to locate /flashtools/drivers
double click the .exe file. And your phone will proceed flashing.

After done flashing, you phone will show SONY ERICSSON, which mean you success flashing
so after the reboot, go the reset to factory setting.

My Xperia Neo is 2.3.3 ver, after i flash it, it still remain the same version. If you try to root ur phone without
unlock boot loader, i guess you need to wait awhile for the developer release

If you tired to waiting, then please feel free to browse how to root with unlock the bootloader
