unlock bootloader comes with a risk..

unless u know wht u r doing n willing to take the risk, dun simply do it juz bcoz u think its cool...

as many ppl giving u an advice, read carefully n thoroughly wht u r doing b4 proceed with it...

for the OTA part, its not totally our fault tho.. SE shud prevent us who unlock the bootloader owner from updating the updates if it bricks the phone..

good job on SEUS n PC Companion, but not on OTA lol..

their statement previously is also blur, stating tht us cant get the updates if we hav a modified software..

but wth, b/l unlock without modifying a software also cant update, n they didnt even says sorry, instead they giving an excuse blablabla..

well at least we r lucky thr r devs who is interested in making a custom rom for us..

Read about the report on what's scary about the Android Market being a malware cesspool ... "You can't really lock down an Android device"

Don't do anything to your phone if you don't want to risk bricking it. It's not worth the hassle. Afterall, it's a wonderful phone as it is now - why rock the boat? hmm.gif

does anyone having error message 'cant install update' when OTA to 2.3.4? when i update through wifi, it completely download the update (around 94mb) and phone restart. after that it install (that 4 blue dot progress bar). and then boot the sony ericsson logo and then to my homescreen. but when i checked the firmware version still stucked at 2.3.3 and error message pop up at notification bar 'cant install update'. any help? tq.
edit- my firmware on 2.3.3 global rom and rooted. tq~

To clarify, you are on 2.3.3 Global ROM (assuming you have flashed it in the past) and have rooted your phone with Gingerbreak, and now you did an OTA update to 2.3.4 and after the process, checking it still shows 2.3.3?

Have you tried again? Do.

yeah last time i flashed to 2.3.2 global rom, Gingerbreak it and OTA to 2.3.3. with no problem. But now when try to OTA to 2.3.4 the error appeared after phone restarting. i've tried 4 times, the latest attempt i removed memory card and simcard and update through wifi, but still can't update.

So it is confirmed then. The reason is clearly this.
- in the exact situation and setup you have, it is not possible to upgrade to 2.3.4 via Wifi OTA.
- you would have to repeat the SAME process you did in the past, that is flash Global ROM 2.3.2, Gingerbreak it
- when fully satisfied all is ok (I suggest you also wipe clean data when flashing), then Wifi OTA to 2.3.4 (as you did 2.3.3 before)

Very ma-fan right? What to do - that's the only way to get root and 2.3.4.

Good luck and report back when you're successful rclxms.gif

Another problem is, it is not that widely available now.

Has 2.3.4 for Malaysian firmware released yet? I saw the firmware in the shops I visited today having 2.3.3 (I supposed the bootloader is locked?). If I were to get the latest 2.3.4, is this the steps (and sequence) I'd need to follow?

1. Flash to a Global 2.3.3 ROM
2. Root with Gingerbreak
3. Update OTA to 2.3.4

Basically the steps are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115542

Thanks.
