Winter is the best (Nov-Feb). Less rain cooler temperature. Nov temp almost like Fraser Hill (~23C)and Dec like CH/Genting (15-18C). Jan/Feb will be cold. (~ 10C)

No of days depending whether you want to round whole Taiwan or only Taipei or Taipei + 1 outstation

If whole island probably a week or 7-8days
If Taipei on;y $ dyas
If Taipei + Huelien (or 1 alternative city) - 5Days

You probably go and change NT$ using RM haha.. As advised, change to US$ 1st or change here although rate is bad well atleast RM to NT$ still better here rather than RM to NT$ at taiwan.

No. I didnt do that.

I doing business there and i monitor currency exchange frequently.
And its NOT ADVISIBLE to change ur RM to USD and then change TWD at taiwan. You get less than changing directly RM to TWD

Anyway, the amt you save from doing conversion from RM to USD & To NT$ in Taiwan is ~ RM30 per every RM1000 you change.. If you feel thios amt is small, yeah changin g direct RNMto NT$ also can up to you

The only important thing ensure the plane is reasonable sized. Dun take 737 plane.. narrow & only 2 toilets (Eco class) catering so many ppl..They blocked Biz class toilets!!

Just opt on DIY - Backpacking style lor if you hv not try this b4.. much more fun & much wider interaction wth locals, food & transportation.

Their MRT connecting almost all the attraction surrounding Taipei & you only need train & buses to further abit from Taipei

Agoda is OK-lah.. Just that lotsa ppl din know that the published rate is before commission/handling charges of ~ US2-US5 depeninding on room price.

otherwise, I hv no problem wth them..Yes, sometime, they might be more expensive than walk-in rate bcos certain budget hotel can be negotiated and they provide discount if you ask..However on overall, they are cheaper and one advantages is you get immediate confirmation rather than walking from one hotel to another upon reaching...I found it so tiring ..(I did that on my Pearl river cities backpacking)..After the incident, i prefer pre-book to avoid wasting time looking for the best hotels

Even a 4 dishes chapfan only RM5 wth free winter melon drinks.. rclxms.gif ..Ah Chong mee sua only RM4. Ocien RM5 much cheaper than KL but too bad their ocien full of starch & cabbages rather than eggs
QUOTE(aiyume @ Oct 26 2011, 06:16 PM)

Eat:
eating in taiwan is almost the same as KL standard. street food cost around RM5-8 per item. restaurant maybe around RM10?

if you are not heavy shopper most likely you can go below RM1000 for 5 days for everything excluding flight of coz.

City tour just take MRT can liao. For jiufen & Yehliu probably need either bus/train ..no need any ground tour.. just do abit of research & info on pg1
QUOTE(PradaLee @ Oct 28 2011, 05:49 PM)
For short trip to Taipei, mainly city tour and makan/shopping trip, is it better to book the flights/hotel myself or book the flights but buy ground package from travel agency? Or, just book the whole package tour from travel agency? How much savings if we book it on our own?

Thanks!

The cab is actually your personal day- driver-lah. U book the cab for whole journey. Depending on how yu nego, I managed to get NT$1800 to Taroko and added another NT$200 to Chin Sui Cliff..but I ended up giving him NT200 xtra bcos he insiste NT$2000 too low haha..Well, I gave bcos kesian that unker.

So wth your personal driver, you go down as & when you want & how long you want to stop up to you bcos you are hiring him for the whole day (Well 1/2 day-lah ~ 5 hrs)

I din goto Beitou & Yang Min shan as these 2 places required abit of tracking and my old parent can't walk much. even walking 1 km to Yehliu Geopark from the bus stop took ages liao haha.

Longshan temple - do not limit yourselve only to the temple bcos nothing much inside this temple. It's the surrounding old town, old buildings & old market that is interesting & not the temple haha

Ximending, Wufenpu & Shihlin nite market you can do it every nit after your day trip .so no need to waste lotsa time
