if u have a lot of time to spare, why no make it in 2 days? hehe

but usually ppl make it the same day since it's within the same route. taking train/bus will be time consuming, hiring a cab will be better but pricey if only 2 person.

if you read my blog, i did it in 1 day but only go yehliu and jiufen (no shifen) but at night i can still go wufenpu and raohe st night market, by using bus/train
*
ya i read your blog, and few itinerary i got from friends also suggested to do yehliu and jiufen together. if i were to split them to 2 days i might need to leave some places out and add on places nearby both place. rclxub.gif

but couldn't find overseas withdrawal in maybank2u rclxub.gif

I'm thinking of buying a local prepaid number over there, wonder how many telcos are there and which is the cheapest for calling back malaysia? hmm.gif
calling using digi prepaid would cost a fortune doh.gif
*
you can apply for Digital Tour Buddy for free if you are below 30 years old. call charges to malaysia for standard hours (Mon-Fri 08:00~23:00; Saturday 08:00~12:00) is NTD1.80/6secs.

Hi all,

I would like to visit Taiwan soon but I would like to know, is it better to go on tour or on my own?

Since it is my first visit, I was thinking to go by tour.

Anyone can recommend which tour agency offers affordable and most importantly reliable travel package to Taiwan? How much would it usually cost?
*
u can go by tour, then next trip go on your own for those places u are interested. round island tour will cost around 2.5k - 3.5k depends on how many days covering which area of taiwan.

my friend recommended this agency http://www.abcholiday.com.my/taiwan.html but i never tried before so i cannot give comment.

if u are hardworking, u can actually do more research and go on your own because follow tour normally will be rush and every place only visit for a limited time.

QUOTE(smoochiesayn @ Jun 21 2011, 10:29 PM)
The Taiwan Visitors Association, they have 'goodies' for those going to Taiwan. Dunno how to explain.. but have 2 choices. before this they will give out either EasyCard with N amount of value or some hotspring voucher.. But i heard they are not so friendly.
My travel partner visited their booth during Matta Fair, instead of the EasyCard, they pushed her to take a coupon that can redeem for souvenir at the airport when we leave Taiwan..
*
not so friendly sweat.gif doh.gif

I managed to get 10.78 in taipan. But then the difference won't be obvious unless you are changing super alot. So change wherever is convenient...if not the difference will be the same to include the trouble...

I am back  rclxm9.gif

well, really fun and nice trip.. but tiring.. walking, walking and walking only..  sweat.gif

Taiwanese are just so nice and friendly  thumbup.gif really need to give them a big big  rclxms.gif and they are discipline too compare to us.. and please learn to pronounce the chinese words before going there (for banana like me  tongue.gif ).. most of them not really understand English, or I should say they very seldom use it, so when you speak the English term they will like "what!!??" expression in their face..  laugh.gif i got this experience when i went to 7eleven to purchase the Easy Card..

During my trip, there is typhoon coming in.. scare me out but lucky that it didnt directly "attack" the land.. just whole day raining and windy..

During my tour at Hualien, met a nice taxi uncle.. he treat us like his son/daughter.. even bring us to back to his "hometown" for a short visit and a lot of story sharing.. do let me know if you need this nice taxi uncle contact no.

thumbup.gif

so you went to taroko? pity it was raining....very troublesome to go around in the rain right? hopefully when i go that time the weather will be good.

Added on June 30, 2011, 12:23 pmoh btw, i think taipei backpackers hostel rooms have different building for different type of rooms. from jlgoh's blog his room is opposite the bakery shop right? mine the address is different and the building has 7-11 downstairs.

QUOTE(XIELD @ Jun 30 2011, 09:38 PM)
Thanks Aiyume for the info...

I will be going Taiwan this Sunday 8D7N, i will be visiting Taipei,Taizhong, kenting and KaoShiung, exciting but nervous because many things arranged too rush  blush.gif
I have a few question with me, hope to get some advise:

1)I have prepared my USD with me, therefore i like to know that either taoyuan airport or money changer at taipei has better exchange rate?

2)I will be using THSR -高铁 to access most of the main city such as:
a) taipei - taizhong  (NT700/way)
b) taipei - Zuoying  (NT1490/way)
c) ZuoYing - Tao Yuan (NT1330/way)
The question is do i need to advance online booking for THSR ticket or just buy it on the spot will do? sweat.gif

3)Besides newyork2, Sogo, wufenpu, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, is there any other shooping area at taipei?

4)Since July is hot summer, so i skip most of the hot spring places such as wulai, xin bei tou, alishan, but should i give up? or is a "must" to visit?

5) Is there any special about National Palace museum at dansui station there.

6) Any device can be bought to detect the luggage weight?

Sorry for too many question  doh.gif
*
i'm writing based on my research. yet to go in sept.

2. THSR better buy in advanced. not sure if u buy now got discount or not but i know if u buy like 2 months in advanced u get 30% (abit too late for now since u are going in 2 days time sweat.gif) but since u already know your itinerary, better buy first in case on the spot sold out loh.

3. my friend told me the underground shopping near taipei station has cheap clothes.

4. alishan is more than hot spring places. the forest train looks awesome and the sun rise too. but u'll have to stay a nite because travelling takes alot of time.

6. airport they let u weigh for free. but better be careful dun overweight especially if u are taking air asia because they are very strict in luggage weight.

For those taking AA back from Taipei to KL, make sure you reach airport early.. there is a long queue for check-in/baggage drop.. it took me about 1 hour for check in and baggages drop in.. the queue start before the counter open  sweat.gif

Lucky we reach there around 12pm (3.55pm flight) and the counter not yet open, so we go jalan2 around the airport and went for our brunch. When the time back to counter (1pm++), already a long queue..

Added on July 1, 2011, 2:12 pm

For shopping, how about Ximending?

For Xin bei tou, besides hot spring u can visit the Thermal Valley, muzeum, library and etc.. well, we still go for hot spring even it's hot out there.. feel like the trip is not completed without hot spring  tongue.gif
*
ximending shopping kinda expensive.

my flight coming back at 11+pm. but we'll leave for airport by 8pm because the luggage room in taipei closing at 8. should be enough gua.

u went for the public hot spring or private owned by the hotels there? need to wear swimsuit?
