Yeah i think i jumped the gun a bit my boxes came in from MileHigh. Good stuff nicely packed so much better then Amazon.
I think the Amazon needs to learn from these small timers how to pack books properly

the difference between with and without CGC rating can be seen here.. so much of difference..

http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/back...59922&snumber=1    cry.gif

from this, can be concluded that to get CGC to evaluate ur comics, it will take freaking a lot of money.. hahaha

sorry if i just figured it out.. noob here...  doh.gif
guys, one of them who saw my comic list suggested to me to get "Acid Free Plastic Bags & Acid Free Backing Boards"..

do u all know any specific shop at KL or Selangor selling that? maybe over the weekend i will drop and buy them..    laugh.gif

Hard to get the good ones nowadays, most of the time are the crappy ones.
Good ones are like Mylar
Good ones are also quite expensive about RM 1 to 3 for plastic and RM 3 to 5 for the board.
You can get them in most stores listed at the 1st page

BTW do you have anything that is worth a lot i suggest you get the ultra pro plastic slip case or hardback turtle clamp shell ones.

For me my expensive ones like Sandman (Death's brother not the other wanker superhero) issue 1 i place it in a ultra pro slip case

But if you like me have valuable HC books then very difficult to keep em properly. what i do is to wrap em in thick wrapping paper.
not like a normal book wrap but like a present wrap

Most of the time i just share the el cheepo plastic/backing board combo with 2 books but if the book has a white back cover i usually purchase the larger plastic variety and place the backing board in the middle

The key here is to stop silverfish and air to go into your books.

I remember that back in OZ i have a friend that purposely built a climate control cleanroom to store his collection. that is what i call extreme

Added on March 15, 2012, 3:14 pmOH BTW only CGC your books if it already very valuable. the CGC is to confirm its condition as .5 of a value may be the diff between 500k to 1 mil. i hardly suspect that anyone in Malaysia have any golden age books. The oldest i have seen are the silver age Marvel books which includes FF1, Amazing Adult Fantasy etc...

I follow Ryan Stegman on twitter n he said that he would be on Scarlet Spider forever. I get it tho I mean its like his baby. He n Yost brought it to life, so to speak.

I really don't like it when Publishers play musical chair with the artist of a title. I wish an artist which is great & suitable for a tone of a comic would stay with it forever. But obviously its too good to be true.

At least independent publisher like Image don't rotate their artist so much. Charlie Adlard of The Walking Dead & Ryan Ottley for Invincible are examples of 2 great long term artist on a series.

Well aside from that I want to ask where would u guys normally get a longbox to store ur comics? N what the usual price for 1?

And if u have any other tips for taking care of comics can u please share?

Thanks smile.gif

Long boxes are quite expensive more then RM50 per piece for the good ones.
Usually i recommend the short boxes for easy storage

Use long box only if you have the space to place them on sturdy individual shelves with reinforced brackets. Else the entire structure will sag

NEVER stack long boxes on top one another perpendicularity as the ones at the bottom may sag and totally destroy the entire structure.
You can only stack them criss cross style

Things to note when keeping comics are the dust, mildew, sunlight and your No 1 enemy the silverfish.

When using backing boards and plastics just go for the el cheepo ones and place 2 book in one pack. with the back cover to the backing boards
Most of the time in our climate even the good ones will cause the plastic to crumple and backing boards to turn color.
Change the packs when required.

Expensive books you should keep in UltraPro hard plastics or those turtle shell casing

This is how i keep my comics... well half of them. the ones i didnt access much i kept them in normal A4 boxes. I got this short boxes from Comics Corner. It can fit around 120~150 comics.
*
Like i mentioned do not stack long boxes only the short ones

EvoHan you should also be wary of your box's weight and place the heavier ones at the bottom logically

You can strengthen the box by taping the sides around continuously with duct tape

Added on April 19, 2012, 9:36 amSo many horror stories of boxes and shelves warping and collapsing under the weight of comics. Mine you they are light singularly but collected in an army, fwah damn heavy the boxes especially with the backing boards and plastics combo

Yeah, after 2 years of failing to get the tickets, 2012 has been kind for me when i manage to secure the tickets including the preview night. This will be my first con. I also manage to get the Stan Lee meet-and-greet session pass organize by desert winds comic. A lot of people actually suggest to get something from spiderman, but it's damn expansive lol !... the one i'm able to afford and currently bidding now is spiderman 252.. the one with mcfarlane cover.. with spidey donning the new black suit.

What about local comic store here ? any suggestion where i could a vintage and may cheaper spidey comics ?

Golden or Silver age books will devalue if it got any blemishes including signature.

Its like Leonardo placing his signature on the Mona Liza, as far as i know there is no signature on the painting

Anyhows i would recommend the Just Image series where Stan the man retell the story of the DC super heroes or the fattest biggest omnibus book you can get if possible i believe FF or Amazing Adult Fantasy have chunky fat humongous ones

not sure if i have asked this before, but are there any shops around kl who know how to frame comics?

I have a signed generation x #1 with the cert from a looong time ago which i would like to display on my wall.

thanks.
*
try to get those ultrapro hardbacks from your comic shop ?

as framing will press the book and sometimes if not done properly the extra air bubble will cause the book cover to warp a bit and stress the book's spine then the staples will be pushed infront towards the cover

QUOTE(comicwhore @ Sep 5 2012, 12:20 PM)
Hello everyone! I've been a comic addict since the early 80s, and I think it's about time for me to let my collection go (7000+ issues)! I am delighted to have found this thread on LYN, as I believe it is far better passing on my comics to fellow collectors as well! I'm in the midst of setting up an FB page to make browsing and selling all my issues easier, but here's a small teaser of what's on sale:

- Crisis on Infinite Earths #1-12
- Days of Future Past (Uncanny X-Men #141-142)
- Kraven's Last Hunt (all 6 issues)
- Batman Hush storyline (all 12 issues)
- All-star Superman #1-12
- Wolverine: The Origin #1-6
- Civil War #1-7
- Spider-Man: Blue #1-6
- Final Crisis #1-7
- Infinity Gauntlet #1-6
- Kick-Ass #1-8

There are plenty more of where that came from. Individual issues of all your favorite comics (Spidey, Batman, X-Men, Spawn etc) will also be on sale! I will be setting up a separate thread on the forums once the page is done, so this is just a little heads up to all users on this thread. =)
