I'm thinking on whether or not to sell of the iPad 2 and get the 3G version.

Or is it better to use my 3G phone as a hot spot and keep the iPad 2 wi-fi only?

Ya but I heard hotspotting on your phone will drain batt life quickly. sweat.gif Any iPad wifi only owner can share their experience of using their iPad + hotspot phone?

and bring another stuff out?

I think TS just keep WiFi.

Unless of course TS can find anyone willing to pay same price as retail and TS willing to wait for 3G version.

RM400 buy you 3G and buy GPS. Surely someone said GPS is bullshit. But since you need 3G, GPS is bonus to you.

if i can hotspot my iphone, i would just use my iphone's internet smile.gif rather than burning the batt just to use the ipad.

personal experience..
i m using wifi unit + hotspot...
to answer your question, yes, it does drain the batt faster as compared to just using my iphone.. but come to think of it, if i were to use my iphone to surf, the battery also drains equally as fast...

as for GPS, by tethering to my 3GS, i can still get a lock on my ipad position, so no issue there...
mobile me works also with the wifi version..... but lets be frank, if you lose your ipad/iphone, what are the chances that you can retrieve them via mobile me? the best is to wipe the info clean.... of which that you can do with the password lock....

as a guide.. my daily usage is 3 to 4 times tether to my 3GS and at any 1 time, the longest usage time is around 30 minutes (so kira average 15 minutes), and my 3GS only needs to be charged at the end of the day (usually tinggal around 10% batt).... this is with the standard phone usage, bluetooth, pushmail and other notification switched on.

lemme ask you a question... how often do you surf via your ipad?

I have the Nokia N8, and its horrible for browsing because the browser and performance is slow. if I have a phone with great browser I would just stick to hotspotting.

unless u are going to use your padpad outside of your network often, else not worth it, it draws more power, u need to maintain a sim card(to me its quite expensive), and malaysia 3G isnt that great.

I think its worth to get the 3G version if you need to check email or use the internet (on and off) quite often on your ipad coz:
1) constantly having to connect 2 devices = very leceh.
2) leave connection on = battery drain quickly on both devices

and like alot of ppl said. you will get GPS as well.

Just have to on hotspot via a widget touch n iPad connect automatically after 1st time.

When we ask about hotspot, usually means we already have a data plan. Usually comes with maps etc. So I don't really see a great deal regarding GPS because most phone that you bother to include data plan will almost without fail have GPS capability. I really think don't need to point out how GREAT GPS is.

agreed that N8 stock browser suck big time, I prefer to use Opera for lite browsing since its more faster, if I have my iPad 2 with me along with my N8 I just tether the connection to my iPad 2 and browse in a bigger screen, plus Safari in iPad 2 is awesomely fast smile.gif

btw i'm also using iPad 2 Wifi only version.

well, I think you did not understand me.

if for example, you prefer to surf or email on your ipad, you still have to switch on tethering on your phone, meaning you still have to take out your phone and unlock it, and turn it on. and later, unlock it to turn it off. so for ppl who needs to use it say 10 time or more in a day, then I really think the ipad 3g is worth it.

also, at which point did I say GPS was GREAT? sweat.gif I was just emphasising that RM400 does not just get you 3g.

The question is when and where do you intend to use iPad. If you are using it mainly at home, starbuck, Paparich, Old town or where wifi is there then you dont need a 3G. If you are on the move and need to use your iPad very often then 3G is a must.
