I'm thinking on whether or not to sell of the iPad 2 and get the 3G version.

Or is it better to use my 3G phone as a hot spot and keep the iPad 2 wi-fi only?

Ya but I heard hotspotting on your phone will drain batt life quickly. sweat.gif Any iPad wifi only owner can share their experience of using their iPad + hotspot phone?

if i can hotspot my iphone, i would just use my iphone's internet smile.gif rather than burning the batt just to use the ipad.
i am totally in that situation by buying just the wifi.regretful.

I have the Nokia N8, and its horrible for browsing because the browser and performance is slow. if I have a phone with great browser I would just stick to hotspotting.

agreed that N8 stock browser suck big time, I prefer to use Opera for lite browsing since its more faster, if I have my iPad 2 with me along with my N8 I just tether the connection to my iPad 2 and browse in a bigger screen, plus Safari in iPad 2 is awesomely fast smile.gif

btw i'm also using iPad 2 Wifi only version.

So hows the N8 hotspotting work for you? OK, drain battery fast? And what hotspot app you use? sweat.gif

Working fine smile.gif using JoikuSpot Premium, so I can set password for the hotspot, don't want any pesky user using my connection for free and eating bandwidth

About the battery, it does drain the battery dry if you are using it like nonstop for 4 hours.. I just use it around max 2 hours per day since I'm not connecting to the net using my iPad 2 nonstop, only if I want to browse the net at the office.

Need your help. I just got Joilkuspot Premium for my N8 and I'm getting "unable to start JoikuSpot". How did you get around that issue?

I used to be in the same boat as you, TS.

Now my iPad 2 Wifi is for sale since I just got my iPad 2 3G+Wifi.

The convenience of using 3G is just priceless. biggrin.gif

If you want to save money and if your iPad 2 is mostly for surfing and gaming, better just get the Wifi-only version as the 3G+Wifi version will not be cost-effective.

However, if you are using for work, email and productive stuff, go for the 3G+Wifi version. Period. I did, and I will never look back!

p/s: I also have an iPhone 4 with a data plan, and I did the iPhone 4 + Wifi tethering to iPad 2. But it was such a hassle and my iPhone 4 didn't have enough juice to go through the day in tethering-mode.

Well I think around 70% of the time I will be around office with wifi. But then again I never use the iPad when I'm in office. Its that 30% when I go out then I start to use the iPad, and that's when I need the 3G.

Make sure the current internet connection is not being use by other apps such as email, browser.. then try to start the hotspot again, sometimes it will take around 2-3 tries before it will start  biggrin.gif

My office also provide wifi, but "some" sites are blocked  sad.gif  no choice but to use my N8 as a hotspot  tongue.gif

Got it to work but only after I set to OFFLINE, then go GENERAL again. doh.gif

Well I'm going on a trip soon so I'll be taking the iPad 2 with me.

I'll try using my N8's hotspot (JoikuSpot RM20), along with Digi's Internet Unlimited 3/5 (RM3/5 per day), and see how it goes from there.
