It's possible, iPad has apps that allows you to read those documents....

But, I think you should considering buying Asus Eeepad Transfomer instead...
It'll suit you better with the build in documents reader and keyboard docking station.... smile.gif

well, if u rich and has credit card then use credit card else use debit card,i use public bank day2day debit card.

If you find the virtual keyboard hard to manage, buy the keyboard.

Yes. It can be done.
I use it for leisure and uni life. Not bad since on some days I could just use the tablet. Save weight & hassle.

ipad is very very good for like reading pdf, do some minor editing on excel or word or even power point files

but if want to use ipad for typing an whole assignment, it's a BIG NONO!!!

for apps to let u read pdf, ibook (free) will do

for apps like for u to edit excel, word and pdf , you can choose numbers (excel),pages (word), keynote (powerpoint), documents to go (all excel, word and pp), quickoffice ((all excel, word and pp)

those app cost the range of USD10 to USD 20

after you finish some minor editing on excel, word files, you can just sync it with some online storage app , like dropbox, googledocs and such, then just use the school PC to download it, then print it out

College student should stick to laptops, not tablets. You have more flexibility with laptops due to tons of program available that you might need to do your assignments.

You have to look at the software that you need to do your assignments/projects.

Can you imagine the pain of sharing data between your other friends when you end up cannot run some of their files because your own tablet lacked the proper software?

Maintenance should not be an issue, its a laptop, not a desktop, and as long as you have warranty you're good to go.

Battery life? Find a power socket, or get one of those low powered laptop like the Acer Timeline which I read can last up to 8 hours.

I think you havent buy one with ULV processor. It used to cost hand and leg for one but recently, it has gone down cheap.

I have an Acer tablet which runs on SU4100 (dual core 1.3GHz ULV) and it last at least 6hrs. IBM has one too on Core i3-xxxUM and it also run 6-8hours easily if I remembered correctly. Now, even AMD has ULV part. Look for the E350.

iPad wont do you any good. Good for web surfing, gaming, replying emails, socials and thats it. I dont really know why people bought an iPad and a bag full of keyboard etc just to have the so called mobile office when all they need is just a tablet and a 10-11.6" ULV powered laptop.

get asus eepad transformer.

even if you are not familiar with the OS and apps. i believe you will manage.

ipad2 for assignment etc. you will find it difficult in doing your assignment after some quite time.

if you really into assignment then get laptop( provided if you dont have laptop ).....if you have laptop. then asus eepad transformer ans it have usb etc. doing assignment required you to use USB stick always(in my case yes) and of you using ipad, then usb stick will have problems with you.

p/s: last time i use ipad for my assignment but in lack of usb making me hard to use ipad as University/collage assignment. need to sync with pc etc etc to transfer the file. and lastly. my ipad just llke a device to use before sleep and when i go out. not doing an assignment on that =.=".

If u got a Pc at home, and the iPad u buy is only for on the go (as in when u go to class or college), then yes iPad is okay.

But u definitely needs a Pc (either desktop or laptop) at home. And what is perhargaan?

What I mean is u plan to use the iPad to finish an assignment from scratch, then it's not a good idea at all. But if like u say use it for lecture notes, then yes.

iPad office app can create new excel or word file, not just edit existing one

Depends on your usage and what you seek for from the iPad smile.gif

Mine standard voltage but can last up to 10 hours if use power saving mode. High performance already last me 5 hours +. Very useful, especially when I bring to the other campuses and no power socket or always got people using shakehead.gif I also prefer laptop because all my lecturers using laptop so they assume whatever they post online can be read by the students.

If so then it seems that the iPad does suits ur need.

Just remember the limitations of it which is u can't simply install any program (I mean program, not apps) on it. But since u got a Pc at home, then i guess it's okay smile.gif

Go out to any Apple Reseller and connect the Ipad2 on display to your hotspot. Check if can access. There are couple of things that mobile webkit cant support. Flash being one and PHP as well. There are some other extension which is not being supported which would be related to the usage of ActiveX content if Im not mistaken. Try it out before purchasing.

Get a laptop... iPad 2 in the long run is more for entertainment instead of productivity.
The form factor of the notebook is more suited for work. The using the iPad for prolonged use will put you off.

Unless you're dead set on getting the iPad2 for the sake of it then you will have a tough time doing whatever assignments you intend to do.
In the end I think you will suffer if you rely solely on the iPad for your work.

To be honest, I'd advise you just to get a laptop.

For me iPad is just an added extra. As I've said on the 1st post yesterday.

In the end I think you will suffer if you rely solely on the iPad for your work.

guys, he already got a PC at home. He can use it to do the assignments.

the purpose of him buying the ipad is NOT for doing the majority job of the assignments.

if it's really like what TS mentioned, the ipad is just to replace lecture notes so that he don't need to print it out, and do some tutorial work (which must be in excel/word file, and does not requires huge amount of typing and reference), then ipad suits him more since he already HAVE a PC at home

if HOWEVER, his access to that PC is limited, as in sharing with others or whatsoever, then a notebook is a better choice

Lol, I think TS has already set his mind to an iPad which is more fashionable. Forget usability, lightweight etc. A student using iPad is for fashion/stylo milo, nothing more. For efficiency, a netbook which is kinda light will suffice.

Right TS? Since you have already set your mind for it, just get it and be happy.

I think you made your mind into buying the ipad 2.
Lock the thread and go get it. biggrin.gif

If, there's in anyway something unexpected occur & you need to transfer a file or need to have the file transferred to your ipad from usb or whatever. I'm pretty sure you need a friend's laptop with itunes installed. If not, hell breaks loose. Oh by the way, it's going to be hard to have your files (pdf or whatever) downloaded to the ipad if you need it. You can only view from the browser. <- (All during your time in campus)

P/S: Personal experience. lol

Hell won't break lose if:

1) Got internet connection for both the ipad and laptop. Hence 3G version ipad2 is a must, and hope the jailbreak for ipad2 come fast, so can install myWi and tethered.
2) the file is not big (usually if students the file is quite small....not always though)

and for downloading files to ipad

i think quickoffice can download word/excel documents to the ipad from email or google doc

and something like pfd reader pro can download pdf file into it too

so yes, if you are not really aware of what you ipad can use, you will find many many limitations

if you were to study harder on the apps available, then you might found that actually it can do more

HOWEVER, THERE ARE STILL LOADS OF LIMITATIONS OF IPAD.

just need to be sure what you are actually gona use it for

You don't do programming on an iPad, seriously. It's simply out of the question. I am one myself.
You have to use a laptop. Even a Mac can be used as long as you got dual-boot via bootcamp or whatever.

With all the programming languages & their softwares, do you think it can be done using the iPad? No of course not. sweat.gif
As I've said a few posts back, I only use mine for leisure and productivity.

Win ... but seriously, you want to bring both to your lectures? A Samsung Galaxy Tab would be able to read USB's which is very commonly used in colleges. But hey, no bling factor compared to iPad.

As someone said lah, despite a few people describing the disadvantages, you have already set your mind on it. It's a no brainer than it's all about the WOW factor. Read lecture notes? tongue.gif .... smoke screen.

Spending RM1.5k and above just replace your notes and do light editing? Who are you kidding ... rclxms.gif

Just get it lah. No need to ask. It's a fun device more than a serious device. As long as you can enjoy using it. I know I am thumbup.gif

well....guys in practical the answer would be in laptop/notebook.

i have been getting alot of answer from different people and courses,it seems ipad2 limitation does really affect your studies if among your friend are using laptop and you are using ipad2.

in real practical assignment ipad2 does not really benefit if you are work on group....well i guess i should get a laptop first and ipad2 later icon_rolleyes.gif
