Cha202,

Mind me asking in which division you are working in?
I got an offer but I am now contemplating if I should join because it is a totally new environment for me. I am not sure how's the environment, workload, expectations and office politics in ASTRO? Yes package wise is good about 20% more than my current. Is it worth a try? If I am young, I would because I am sure there are a lot to learn but problem is I am already mid 30s...should I take this risk 😔

QUOTE(cha202 @ Feb 26 2016, 03:33 PM)
In my opinion, yes its all worth it. When I joined, my salary was so much lower. After a while, my boss decided to revise my salary as the workload worth more than what I earned. Workload was crazy, i broke down into tears because too many things on my plate, i came back to work 3 days after I got married, I was doing office work during my maternity leaves and a lot more. It does sound crazy right? For me, if can survive in Astro, i can survive anywhere. You get to see many things in Astro. Lots of different characters. Like their tag "macam-macam ada"

I quit because I was exhausted and the lack of leadership, was some of the push factor. After all, everybody deserves a break after working their a$$ off.

If any of you got an offer, just go for it. Go in, learn and leave. If you want to stay there forever also can. Lols.

I already done my interview with them, got a call on 26th DEC stating that they want to proceed with hiring and request me to do some online hiring assessment while they get in touch with my referral.

Almost 2 weeks have past, didn't hear anything from them, not sure whether this is normal or not.

Any latest updates from Astro current or ex-staff?

I got an invite for interview session. But reading the general vibe in this thread is not that convincing, and I'd rather not waste time.

Hello everyone,

I just signed up after finding this forum & thread to be the most uptodate with what goes on while working at Astro. Thanks for the resource !
After reading reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed I still seem to be unable to understand what's going on with my current (?) candidature with Astro.

A headhunter contacted me to see whether I was interested in a certain position with Astro.
I accepted and was interviewed in early April 2018. The interview lasted almost 1.5hrs and was only one stage directly with the hiring manager. This was for a SAVP role. Unfortunately I cannot disclose what department that is for.
I was asked to record a "selfie video" introducing myself just for profiling reasons: apparently it's an Astro formality they have.

One day later the headhunter tells me Astro has already decided to make me an offer.
Over the next week I provide my references, fill in forms etc. for Astro to process a background check. Few weeks later I am advised by the headhunter that the background check came out good to go and that HR will now need to get budget approval from management.

Date of this writing is 27 June 2018. I haven't yet received the promised offer and the headhunter says that their requests/followup to the HR in Astro remain unanswered or ignored (not sure if truth).

Are you guys aware of Astro taking like 3+ months to issue a formal job offer?
This is absurd and really frustrating! Are there any current Astro employees in this forum who might shed a light?

Thanks a lot for any insight!

You mentioned about budget approval from management as the last known stage. This one varies. Normally in large corporations, approvals come in batches as it’s not easy to get top management time. This is especially when the organization have a major event to organize, under restructuring or it’s just simply the approver is not around (due to travel).

Based on public news, Astro just change its CEO and there are possible merger talks with Maxis. So that may explain the delay.

3 months is quite normal for large corporations in addition of being a middle management role. Have you negotiated on salary? If not, there is still that stage left. If yes, maybe you are 2nd / 3rd choice and the silence or delay is in case the first choice rejected their offer and come to you next.

That's a great reply, thanks.
So you're saying to hang in there.

I haven't even seen what salary we're talking about here as I haven't seen their offer yet.
As such, I haven't even reached the negotiation stage. How long do you think negotiations can drag on for ?

According to the fact that they have clearly told me (almost 3months ago now) that I would be receiving an offer , I'm led to think that I'm not a 2nd or 3rd choice otherwise I bet they wouldn't trouble themselves to have me do all the background checks and tell me about budget approvals ongoing etc.

Just my .02$.

Normally they will ask how much you want for salary? Very rare they offer first without tentatively asking unless your asking price is lower than their expectation. Normally they will try to negotiate downward (part of their KPI). This negotiation normally happens over phone as the offer letter is not easy to prepare (it needs the HR head approval in some cases).

Alternatively, they may run in budget issues as some HR has overriding power to reject candidates even after hiring manager ok due to myriad of reasons. For example, your asking price may be too much? Or you are supposed to join a new department and they felt such department is no longer necessary?

It’s normal to have at least 2 to 3 candidates on the back-up line in case the first choice reject. Imagine the hassle they have to go through again if that happens. The small inconvenience is nothing compared to revisiting the process.

Anyway, if you don’t’ have another offer, just wait it out. Hope yours are really just process hiccups.

Nothing.

As I mentioned in my first post, this role was brokered to me via a well known headhunter agency.
After following up yet again with the agent 1 week ago, I have received no reply yet from either agent or employer.

Really makes me wonder. bangwall.gif

so you didn't chase the headhunter?

I have been chasing the agent ever since the background check came out clean and they told me I would be extended an offer.
Frankly I'm starting to lose hope.

May I ask you whether your position is also a middle management role or lower/higher?
If same or higher I wish you good luck, if lower then there is a chance it may take less time to reach a conclusion.
