I have kept cories before. They are very nice to watch and they mind their own business. I am sure they love maneuvering themselves around the marimos.
May add some to my tank as well. smile.gif

Haha sharp eyes over there, gave u the signature as price, ok or not? LOL Yeah they are living peacefully with marimos especially they like to swim in between the gap of 2 marimos

With fish is ok, but with turtle, turtle basically will eat whenever it able to bite something and their eating period very continuous brows.gif Guppies is fine with marimos, but snails, bro, it is a bit dangerous as snail main food is algae and they do breed superb fast, last time I tried out, end up one of my marimo become their sarang! QUOTE(jess7 @ May 21 2012, 12:40 AM)
a question to all marimo lovers and experts out there!

1) is it possible that marimo shrinks in diameter size?
i've been playing around with my marimos
like taking them out for massage and compressing them into round shape.

2) i start to realize that water in bowl does not last long as after 4days, it will start to smell...
condition of marimo: all healthily darkgreen smile.gif

please advice.
*
1)If you compressed too hard, the marimo do shrink in size at that particular moment but after a period, it will back to its normal size, advisable no too squeeze/compress the marimo too hard. Gently and soft squeeze for cleaning will do.

2)Darkgreen =healthy = still alive wink.gif No worries. It is practically normal a bowl of normal water (we call dead water), perform rapid water change or have a tank setup with filter so that you can provide good water circulation in the tank will ensure the freshness of the water and therefore your marimo will live happily, my best tank setup, been 4 months never change water, my marimos do enjoying the "natural" water condition too smile.gif

Showing some portion of my treasures that I obtained during my visit to Hokkaido, Japan last week for marimo hunting.
LeeYung's own collection! Marimos Family, from baby to grand grand pa! Special thanks to Yamatso San, he gave me the Super Gigantic Marimos (LeeYunG's Naming) as an appreciation for continuing our cooperation (since several years back up to today!). It is really a great treasure to me biggrin.gif!

WOW ... grand grand pa u look so awesome !!!! One and only one in Malaysia !!!
*
Yeah, I love it so much, but washing this fella is a pain as you need to use both hand to massage it for a long time! LoL. The grand grand pa name is called Super Gigantic... I wonder if any other seller will be able to copy this name or not LoL, since you know, people are copying my other marimo names like Giant, Super Giant... whistling.gif

by the way, too bad I forgot to put the lazy carpet marimos together in the photo tim... I called it lazy carpet because it give me the felling of lazy as it always laying down at the bottom. (FYI, carpet also my own naming)

FYI, There are some members approach me and said that some sellers claimed that NO SUCH thing for carpet marimos as their supplier say not such thing, so I wanted to clarify over here. Yamatso San will provide carpet marimo to certain selected loyalty distributors only (I am one of them, and that's why I got carpet together with grand grand pa too!!). And FYI from my supplier, currently leeyung is the only person directly deal with Japan side, so some sellers who are selling at unreasonably low price n claimed their marimos are from Japan as well, the origin of their marimos should be questioned whistling.gif

QUOTE(fylon @ Jun 4 2012, 04:59 PM)
Great one there with insane size!

Wonder it took how long to grow from a nano size to this grand2 pa size.
*
LoL, I think no need a century gua? LoL, but Yamatso San told me that fella same age as his grandpa, so I guess at least the age 50 and above tongue.gif

Year Huge enough to play "water volley ball" brows.gif

QUOTE(fishman @ Jun 5 2012, 01:12 AM)
Wah leeyung, what huge ball you have!! Looks like the size of a bowling ball!! How did you manage to fly back with that?
*
Not bowling size yet la, but about volley ball size d hehe, Mr Yamatso arrange it for me for our few years 'marimo relationship' smile.gif

To all, at first I thought of not putting out Mr. Yamatso's name or some unethical sellers will be googling around n try to sabotage people's sales again, but Mr. Yamatso is my very great sensei (sifu) n I owe a lot to him for arranging shipments of marimos, as you know the shipments of marimos are not as simple as sending through courier service as some seller take this 'idea' to claim their marimos are genuine from Japan and selling super expensive because of that, and some seller said more than 3cm marimo cannot be shipped out from Japan, which is totally NOT true, I believe this kind of seller claiming such fake/false information is because of he/she unable to source it, what people call Sour Grapes whistling.gif . That is why we have to cleverly filter some false information claimed by certain unethical sellers which always think of a way to boost his own sales and sabotage/lower down other peoples

So here I promised to show Mr. Yamatso this photo of Super Gigantic with credits to him. Not to forget I need to thank all my buyers as well for your continuous support which in return gave me a chance to have this Super Gigantic! Therefore, here we go with the photo and I hope everyone love my Super Gigantic wink.gif

This is not Marimo, this is Java Moss, a kind of aquatic plant

QUOTE(LuQEE @ Jun 5 2012, 09:29 PM)
thats a  fake marimo ball, or compressed java moss ball to be precise hehe
*
To be more precise, Compressed Java Moss in ball shape brows.gif My aqua friends very funny, they call this kind of java moss as Negro ball (perhaps the shape of java moss like their hair?)

QUOTE(fishman @ Jun 6 2012, 02:25 AM)
leeyung, do hope you will post more pics/videos of your super gigantic ball. I wonder with such a size, can it float?

*
Nice tank there! Yeah, but not so soon because I am going to upgrade all my aqua gears to give 7 stars hotel for them stay brows.gif Yes, it do float! but i think not surprise ba, small one does, grand grand pa also can ba haha

QUOTE(fylon @ Jun 6 2012, 11:16 AM)
The tank itself comes with a back filter attached right? I mean there's a compartment for filter at the back that stick together with the tank. laugh.gif
*
Usually does not come with a back filter. We call that kind of filter (used by fishman one) as hanging filter. Typical 3 sizes available in market. Spec range according to their flow rate n price do range from RM15-40 depending on the flow rate. The filter comes in package with carbon filter inside.

Finally have to time to check this thread. laugh.gif Been busy for my friend's wedding on the past few day.
Both my super giant and giant from LY looks browner then the other two. hmm.gif Not sure is I kept that too long in the fridge or what. Had take them out for absorbing sunshine since morning. There's bubble around but yet learn how to float.
Send a pm to leeyung for more info. icon_idea.gif

Glad that you are back bro biggrin.gif

no worries with the browning bro, by performing more rapid change of water and wash the marimo, the brown patch will diminish by part because they are actually a part of the metabolism for marimos. You may PM me for more details biggrin.gif

Nothing went wrong bro, try to perform more rapid change on the water and you will eventually see the freshness of it, just like what venus did in previous post.

Emergency! My marimo balls are in bad shape! They are totally brown in color, one of it has little green left. Is there any way to save them? They were out of the tank for 1 month, in a bottle.. I think it was due to lack of nutrients / sunlight that caused this.. Finally back with me, I placed them back in a planted tank hoping they can recover in months time.
*
QUOTE(Malformed @ Jun 11 2012, 11:41 AM)
I gave it to my girlfriend to keep, thinking it should be easy to maintain, but after a week or two it started turning yellow. And I did not have the time to get it back, so it waited for a month. Now it's back with me, I quickly returned it to the tank.

What is the procedure I should follow to put them in the fridge?
*
Did she put near window where the marimo is exposed under direct sunlight with the heat?

Sorry to inform you bro, the marimos already in dying stage, since you mentioned your GF do put the marimos under direct sunlight. I thought we all over here already discussed about this? We shall avoid direct sun light against marimo as UV do kill them sad.gif Btw, your GF put the marimos under sunlight for how long? whole month?
