*
haha another best way to preventing mosquito laying eggs is put some guppies, because they will eat the eggs, then produce CO2 to ur marimo too smile.gif that is not really browny in fact, you pay refer this post for actual browny sick marimo smile.gif

No matter fish or shrimps you keep, both need filter to maintain the water cleanliness. If you go for tetra i recommend cardinal tetra as life span is longer and they are harder than neon tetra. Of course price also be more expensive compare to neon tetra. If you not going for filter then u have to change your water at least once a week. I did that before, 5cardinal tetras in a small tank without filter with my marimos for 2months before i move to 1.5ft tank. biggrin.gif
*
Agreed with DecemberRose, you need filter with carbon element inside to filter out the biotoxic (biological filter) and also other dirty elements (Physical filter). If Cardinal tetra size too large/ price too high for you, go for red nose tetra, rednose also very hard and cheap haha, cardinal standard would be RM2 each and Rednose Rm0.60 each only, they looks silly with red nose hahahaha thumbup.gif

btw, got a lid wan but when i put the lid on for awhile like got wap air :/ how ar? shud i dun cover it or reduce the amount of water or?
& im thinking of buying sumthing to put at the bottom of the jar .. like pebbles/ stones? i dunno @_@ last time i read somewhere in the thread say..coral sand? the sand wun stuck at Puddles punya bulu ar?

just now like squeeze him too hard tim T_T but still no round shape aih..
*
haha wap air, tak apa one, sure got one if u close the lid, u may refer to FAQ for the lid issue. Regarding the coral sand, u should not choose too fine one, choose larger like bean size will be no problem. Because if too fine it will stuck inside ur marimo, very hard to wash out smile.gif

haha I am assuming the puddles u mentioned are not DOGGY marimos, no worries, go ahead, put into fridge but remember not the freezer part! Best would be the section where you put ur fruit, just nice temperature for them smile.gif

Hey guys, yesterday I took one of my marimos to the office and place it beside the window, and it has a lot of bubbles now. But today I notice the water got a lot of debris and tiny things floating around. Is it normal for the water to get dirty quickly?
*
Let me guess, you are simply putting the marimo inside bottle without any filter and without any water circulation right? if your answer is Yes, then that is normal because dead water issue, refer to previous post in this thread, discussed before smile.gif

*
Advisable to change it, the water will become smelly due to the bacteria smile.gif

How big is ur gravels/pebbles??. shocking.gif .same size as the one sticked on marimo?.. shakehead.gif ..if yes..change it off... blink.gif .....is just like rolling something wet on the sand...it will stick.....if not...you must squeeze your marimo harder...they will produce waste product..like human.. icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif ...correct me if i am wrong.. sweat.gif  whistling.gif
*
haha, this is one of the discussed issue before, marimo sometimes will get stucked/ or suck the sand/fine rocks due to their nature being of surface (fluffy like carpet). Clean them rapidly by squeezing the rocks / sands out. You are superb correct bro smile.gif Thanks for the great explanation, you hit the points smile.gif

But the problem is the gravel I'm using is bigger size than the thing sticking on their fur... Is almost 2 times the sizes... The gravels are small but the pebbles/rocks sticking on their fur are even smaller... So is it still because of the gravel???
*
It is possible it is stucked inside at the first place before ship to you tongue.gif due to the tank setup smile.gif I take a photo and show you shortly, see is that what you mentioned smile.gif wait~

My Marimo ♥
do i need a pump if i put miramo and guppy together?
the fishes seems to be shitting alot.. tongue.gif
*
It seems like that is your Betta fish tank, your tank is overwhelmed by Fishes, with that kind of size tank, maximum 2 guppies are allowed. In fact if you wish to put some fishes/shrimps with your marimo, you MUST/SHOULD use filter. Small hanging filter cost you RM15 only with carbon and sponge filters inside. It allows you to biologically and mechanically filter out your water so that your water will not produce some weird smelly due to the SHIT waste of the fish. If you do not use any filter for that, your marimo will get stick with a lot of SHIT waste of the fish easily and most of the time it is very smelly tongue.gif

Mind to show us your tank? Guppies hardly die one ler, unless u have an old guppy tongue.gif (Guppy live a bout 2 years if your water temperature is about 30-35 degree Celsius)

I just add in conditioner( JBL, Quickly converts tap water to healthy aquarium water). It stated can de chlorinate the water. Am lucky did not purchase branded guppies fr first round.
nano tank 24cm*22cm.

user posted image

My bigger tank is 2 ft. left there for a week plus ( with added conditioner)
* Spot the guppies. Just moved 3 of them to my 2 footer. See can survive or not.

user posted image

How to upgrade this to marimo tank? Looks special. But water so shallow.

user posted image
*
wow wow, the nano tank doesnt look "fresh", why dont u use hanging filter or some other filter contained carbon? it can biologically filter ur water efficiently.

i think they can survive nicely over the 2ft tank, btw how much for ur 2ft tank including the lamp? I guess almost about 200 rite?

ur last tanke shocking.gif it looks like aqua plant habitat for katak rather than fish tank ler haha nice tank u have!

Eh hem, Lee Yung..
2 ft is mine but not the third tank. I snapped it at Pavillion.
Nano tank just change water the day before.. hanging filter is what?
How do you call my current pump in the nano tank?

my 2 ft tank is 40+ i think. Light tubes are xpensive, shade also nt cheap., submersible filter pump i bought it mahal ( kena con) . and yes 200++.
*
user posted image

This is hanging filter, for ur nano size u can go for the smallest one cost u RM15 only (maximum price). Ur current nano tank looks like normal filter to mechanically filter the dirty thing in ur tank (like the shit of fish etc) using sponge. I am not sure what is the name for that tongue.gif ur 2ft tank, the light bulb exp man. Submersible filter pump always a good choice for me but it is costly. However it save a lot of spaces and looks tidy for ur tank. Shade I am supposed to be not costly doesnt it? ur light bulb i think need RM70-90 rite?

The cheapest is the tank. haha~
What's the difference between your hanging and my current's?
*
Hanging one produce stronger water flow and it comes together with carbon and also sponge filter

That is because your filter do not contain any carbon element, else it will purified ur water to clear n clean one

Quite relieved to hear that dark green marimo are considered normal smile.gif my marimos are only 1 cm big, i see filamentous like threads growing and am not sure if they are considered normal...are yours also only 1 cm big or have gone through similiar situation?  usually how long should they be put in fridge?  I don have pumps and only leave them at the balcony for light and wind, changed water only once per week.  They look greener when i first bought them, but gradually they grew dull green...so am not sure if i'm keeping them correctly.. hmm.gif
*
According to your previous photos, your marimo seems like not growing in healthy condition. You made some mistake in keeping your marimo. I am supposed u put your marimo outdoor with the expose of sun light, isnt it? btw where you bought ur marimos? and in fact in FAQ first post, there are some answers available regarding the treatment for marimo, how long to keep in fridge and the amount of salt to be used.

Healthy marimo can be superb dark green or light green according to your water freshness smile.gif. They do produce bubbles but required strong photon source
